William's Song a Day Blog - est. September 2007

From: Buffalo Springfield Again ; Year: 1967; Genre: Psychedelic Rock Had Buffalo Springfield on my mind today, as usual I'm picking one of their songs. This is one of their charting singles; it reminds me a lot of the successor band that came out from them: Crosby, Stills and Nash; mostly due to the singing style of Steven Stills.    Hear Rock and Roll Woman on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Hall & Oates - Head Above Water   My song pick 2 years ago today: Vince Guaraldi Trio - Alma-Ville My song pick 3 years ago today: INXS - New Sensation My song pick 4 years ago today: Amii Stewart - Knock on Wood My song pick 5 years ago today: Link Wray - Comanche My song pick 6 years ago today: Foo Fighters - Everlong My song pick 7 years ago today: Rush - The Analog Kid My song pick 8 years ago today: The Alan Parsons Project - The Tell-Tale Heart My song pick 9 years ago today: Red Hot Chili Peppers - Ethiopia My song pick 10 ...

From: Buffalo Springfield ; Year: 1967; Genre: Rock I'm kind of surprised I had not chosen this song yet, being that it's the band's most famous track. I've always like this one, the sparse sound yet overall fullness is one of the main aspects for me. Of course with the excellent production done with this song it's really fun to hear it with headphones on. Hear For What It's Worth on YouTube. From: Buffalo Springfield Again ; Year: 1967; Genre: Folk Rock/Symphonic Rock I heard some Buffalo Springfield music last night whilst I was out on the road and it's been in my mind since, so I'm picking one today. Anyway, this is a rather interesting song that actually only features Neil Young alone backed by orchestral music, which is arranged extremely well which makes a quite distinct and unique sound. Add to that the haunting and ambiguous lyrics and it becomes a real treat for the ears. Hear Expecting to Fly on YouTube.
