6816. Rage Against the Machine - Township Rebellion

Image
From: Rage Against the Machine ; Year: 1992; Genre: Alternative Metal/Rap This is one of those records that has continued to reverberate almost 35 years since its release and counting; will probably still be totally relevant for another century or two. I absolutely love how their music is not stuck as a signpost from the 1990s, but feels and sounds as new as when released. The only real sad part about their music is that the same BS they were raging against is still happening and in some cases has gotten a lot worse. C'est la vie .   Hear Township Rebellion on YouTube.         My song pick 1 year ago today: Cameo - Slyde     My song pick 2 years ago today: Savatage - Miles Away   My song pick 3 years ago today: The Eagles - New Kid in Town   My song pick 4 years ago today: The Rolling Stones - It's Only Rock 'n Roll (But I Like It)   My song pick 5 years ago today: Positive Force - We Got The Funk   My song pick 6 years ago today:...

Image
From: Union Town ; Year: 2011; Genre: Folk Rock Yesterday I had this one come on while driving about town; sure is a great one to sing along to in heavy traffic. I really wish Tom Morello would make more of this heavier-subject music for this project; it is very motivating and uplifting.   Hear A Wall Against the Wind on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: The Grateful Dead - When Push Comes to Shove   My song pick 2 years ago today: Depeche Mode - A Question of Time   My song pick 3 years ago today: Blue Öyster Cult - Veins   My song pick 4 years ago today: Weather Report - The Moors   My song pick 5 years ago today: Stratovarius - S.O.S. 5978. Primus - Mama Didn't Raise No Fool

Image
From: Antipop ; Year: 1999; Genre: Funk Metal/Funk Rock Going with the hard and funky track from Primus for this Funky Friday pick. This one has definitely a different sound to their normal fare; probably due to the inclusion of Tom Morello in the writing of the track and him playing the lead guitar on it as well.    Hear Mama Didn't Raise No Fool on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Rush - Spindrift   My song pick 2 years ago today: Rush - Secret Touch   My song pick 3 years ago today: Megadeth - Never Walk Alone... 5633. The Nightwatchman - Which Side Are You On?

Image
From: Union Town ; Year: 2011; Genre: Folk Rock/Folk Was thinking of choosing something from another artist, but for some reason I just felt like picking this one today. This is song is product of the fight for workers rights from the first half of the 20th Century here in the U.S.. With lyrics written by poet and activist Florence Reece after her and her family were terrorized and brutalized by hired thugs, the tune is based on a traditional song: Jack Monroe , which had also been used for other songs as well and recorded many times by many artists. Far and gone, this is my favourite song from Tom Morello's "alter ego" The Nightwatchman; just so much power and heaviness in this track.   Hear Which Side Are You On? on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Manfred Mann - Fox on the Run   My song pick 2 years ago today: Foreigner - Inside Information   My song pick 3 years ago today: Earth, Wind & Fire - Tee Nine Chee Bit   My song pick 4 ...

5327. Audioslave - Until We Fall

Image
From: Revelations ; Year: 2006; Genre: Alternative Rock Listening to Audioslave's last album, Revelations , again today; I wanted to pick a track from it as well. It's kind of sad how this supergroup didn't continue on; the members of the two storied and legendary bands: (Rage Against the Machine and Soundgarden) really jelled quite well together and made a sound that was rather unique across the entire spectrum. I cannot say that this song is my favourite off the album mostly due to the fact that all the tracks on it are simply amazing, but this one stands out in my opinion.   Hear Until We Fall on YouTube.         My song pick 1 year ago today: Gloryhammer - Power of the Laser Dragon Fire   My song pick 2 years ago today: Ian Anderson - Cold Dead Reckoning (2044)   My song pick 3 years ago today: Molly Hatchet - Good Rockin' My song pick 4 years ago today: Carmen - Bullfight My song pick 5 years ago today: The Outfield - Say It Isn't So My so...

Image
From: World Wide Rebel Songs ; Year: 2011; Genre: Hard Rock/Alternative Rock Was going through some of Tom Morello's lately and came back once again to his side project: The Nightwatchman. It Begins Tonight is for me one of the absolute highlights from the record, it has a good "bluesyness" to the hard rock edge of the song.   Hear It Begins Tonight on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Foghat - Drivin' Wheel   My song pick 2 years ago today: Rush (Neil Peart) - Der Trommler (Drum Solo)   My song pick 3 years ago today: Billy Joe Royal - Cherry Hill Park My song pick 4 years ago today: Q Lazzarus - Goodbye Horses My song pick 5 years ago today: Al Di Meola - Black Cat Shuffle My song pick 6 years ago today: David Bowie - Starman My song pick 7 years ago today: King Crimson - Starless My song pick 8 years ago today: Black 47 - Maria's Wedding My song pick 9 years ago today: Van Halen - 1984 My song pick 10 years ago today: Savatag...

Image
From: Audioslave ; Year: 2002; Genre: Alternative Rock I was wanting to pick another song for today, but since an Audioslave song came on the radio I couldn't get them out of my mind. Image
From: Rage Against the Machine ; Year: 1992; Genre: Funk Metal/Alternative Metal Today is my 73rd straight Funky Friday pick and I wanted to keep the streak alive, but I also felt like hearing some Rage Against the Machine. So I figured that this song would make a perfect fit to fulfill the two desires. This is a great funky metal track with a lot of energy and drive as well as some political activism to boot. Image
From: Audioslave ; Year: 2002; Genre: Alternative Metal I'm still picking songs released in the year that coincides with my song pick number; today is my 2002nd song picked, so I am picking one released in 2002. 1807 The Nightwatchman - I Dreamed I Saw Joe Hill Last Night

Image
From: Union Town ; Year: 2011; Genre: Folk/Folk Rock The other day I saw a live performance on the television of Tom Morello's folk/rock project The Nightwatchman; to say the least it was very interesting hearing such a different sound out great musician who is usually heard playing extreme forms of metal. Anyway, this of course was one of many of the songs they played that I liked. As with most of the songs on this album it is a cover of a union/protest song; this one was originally a poem written by Alfred Hayes about a labor activist named Joe Hill . In the mid 1930s Earl Robinson set the poem to music as a union/protest song, which has been covered a bit since. Hear I Dreamed I Saw Joe Hill Last Night on YouTube. My song pick a year ago today: Van der Graaf Generator - Childlike Faith In Childhood's End My song pick two years ago today: Billie Holiday - Gloomy Sunday My song pick three years ago today: Electric Light Orchestra - Ticket To The Moon ...
