6492. Aretha Franklin - Rock Steady

Image
From: Young, Gifted and Black ; Year: 1972; Genre: Funk/Soul Was noticing how strange it is that I have chosen only two songs by the late-great Queen of Soul and at the same time I have always been a huge fan of her work. I do not know why I haven't chosen more of her material, but I am intending on rectifying that starting now with this Funky Friday .     Watch her Soul Train performance on YouTube.         My song pick 1 year ago today: Dokken - Dream Warriors     My song pick 2 years ago today: The Supremes - Come See About Me   My song pick 3 years ago today: The Outfield - Since You've Been Gone   My song pick 4 years ago today: Bachman-Turner Overdrive (BTO) - Freeways   My song pick 5 years ago today: The Four Tops - I Can't Help Myself (Sugar Pie Honey Bunch)   My song pick 6 years ago today: Yes - Lightning Strikes My song pick 7 years ago today: Queensrÿche - For What It's Worth My song pick 8 years ago tod...

5815. Aretha Franklin (with James Brown) - Gimme Your Love

From: Through the Storm ; Year: 1989; Genre: Funk/R&B/Soul For some reason lately I have been gravitating towards funky music from the later 1980s into the 1990s; don't really know why exactly, might be the memories I have from that time period. Anyway, this one has a unique duet between the Queen of Soul and the Godfather of Soul and Funk; I'm quite surprised to see that they apparently only came together for this one song, which is a shame; they worked very well together.   Hear Gimme Your Love on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Depeche Mode - Behind the Wheel   My song pick 2 years ago today: Lynyrd Skynyrd - Travelin' Man   My song pick 3 years ago today: Camel - Highways of the Sun   My song pick 4 years ago today: The Guess Who - Three More Days My song pick 5 years ago today: Heart - White Lightning & Wine My song pick 6 years ago today: Audioslave - Nothing Left to Say But Goodbye My song pick 7 years ago today: Er...

4058. Aretha Franklin - Freeway of Love

From: Who's Zoomin' Who? ; Year: 1985; Genre: Soul/R&B/Pop As most everybody's aware, the undisputed Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin just passed away; I'm still in shock from it. Her music has always been around me and she was among my favourite singers. She and her amazing voice will surely be missed. Anyway, this is one of her songs I've always loved since I first heard it. I like the way she has always kept herself and her music relevant no matter wot the tastes of the music scene; not very many people in music can say the same for their musical career that span about six decades. I can say for certain that people will be listening to Aretha Franklin's music for centuries to come. Hear Freeway of Love on YouTube.
