From: Touch Me in the Morning ; Year: 1973; Genre: Soul/R&B/Motown This is one of those songs that for me has always sat just beyond consciousness and will surface from time to time. It's weird, but for some reason my mind had compartmentalized each of the sections, or so it would seem, so the different lines, melodies and tempos almost seemed like separate tracks. Anyway, as I have stated many times, I've always been a huge fan of both Diana Ross and the Supremes, (with or without her, but prefer them with her); back in the day I loved sitting and listening to her on my Dad's many 45 rpm records, I believe he had this one. From: Where Did Our Love Go ; Year: 1964; Genre: R&B/Soul/Motown It seems every time I have a song by The Supremes or Diana Ross come on without realizing it I turn the volume way up and just bask in the beautiful sounds of their vocals and the incomparable music of the one and only Funk Brothers. I like so much of their work, so it's difficult to put their songs in order as to which one I like the most, but this one would definitely be among them. Someday We'll be Together was and is looked upon as the "swan song" of Diana Ross being with the act; that added to the overall powerful emotions present in the song both vocally and musically and you get an overwhelming, powerful song. 716 ( The Supremes - I Hear a Symphony ) While on the road today this one came on the radio and immediately knew that I had my pick for the day. There is something almost magical about the Motown sound mixed with the beautiful voices of Diana Ross & the Supremes; just an amazing track. Here is the studio version on YouTube. This is one of my favorite songs, if not my favorite song from Diana Ross & Supremes. As with most Motown songs it is rhythm driven, both the bass and drums are fantastic. I was thinking of this song the last couple of days, so I decided to pick it. It has the Motown sound to it in spades, however with the addition of the orchestra it makes a very nice and unexpected sound and, of course, Diana Ross' vocals are incredible as always. The lyrical content and the subject matter are the best and strongest aspects of the song. This was, of course, the theme song to the Motown movie Mahogany ; while the film did not do so well, the song became a classic and is simply beautiful. Here is the studio version on YouTube.
