6871. Tesla - Burnout to Fade

Image
From: Simplicity ; Year: 2014; Genre: Hard Rock Tesla's Simplicity album is one that I "leap-frogged" over for no apparent reason. I absolutely love their previous album Forever More and the next album Shock , but just missed out on the one in between. I have to say, it is another case of better late than never, I really like wot I have heard; this is one of my favourites from it. Thematically, this one is quite heavy, dealing with someone who just missed out on what could've been a great relationship. From the narrator's point-of-view this individual rebuffed/strung him on throughout their time knowing one another, but then apparently comes back, expecting the narrator to have just waited endlessly. However, he and time moved on and now wot could've been can never happen. I really love the sound and composition of it; very much in their classic sound. It reminds me a lot of how they sounded back in the day, which is very good in my book.   Hear Burnout to F...

6685. Tesla - Hand Me Down World

Image
From: Real to Reel ; Year: 2007; Genre: Rock Whilst I like much of their original material, their two Real to Reel cover albums have been a gem and then some for me personally. By covering the wide array of bands that apparently influenced them over quite a few genres, it really shows their overall skills as musicians and arrangers. With this one they did an awesome cover of one of my favourite songs from the band The Guess Who. It's cool just how much this song's music and underlying message still rings true to this day.   Hear Hand Me Down World on YouTube.         My song pick 1 year ago today: Camel - Metrognome     My song pick 2 years ago today: Foreigner - Feels Like the First Time   My song pick 3 years ago today: Berlin - You Don't Know   My song pick 4 years ago today: Gentle Giant - In a Glass House   My song pick 5 years ago today: Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) - Telephone Line   My song pick 6 years ago to...

Image
From: Reel to Reel ; Year: 2007; Genre: Rock/Pop I have constantly been finding enjoyment out of these two cover albums from the band Tesla. 6283. Tesla - All the Young Dudes

Image
From: Real to Reel, Vol. 2 ; Year: 2007; Genre: Glam Rock I just keep coming back to Tesla's two albums of cover songs; it is just so awesome to hear a band I like play the songs of other bands that I like. They do a great service to this song originally recorded by Mott the Hoople; keeping all of the spirit of it intact whilst placing their own stamp on it.   Hear All the Young Dudes on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Sly and the Family Stone - Underdog   My song pick 2 years ago today: Fleetwood Mac - Morning Rain   My song pick 3 years ago today: Faith No More - Naked in Front of the Computer   My song pick 4 years ago today: The B-52's - Deadbeat Club   My song pick 5 years ago today: Pallas - Crown of Thorns   My song pick 6 years ago today: 10cc - I'm Not In Love My song pick 7 years ago today: David Essex - A Winter's Tale My song pick 8 years ago today: Howlin' Wolf - I Ain't Superstitious My song pick 9 years a...

6117. Tesla - I Want To Take You Higher

Image
From: Real to Reel, Vol. 2 ; Year: 2007; Genre: Funk Rock/Hard Rock I have to say, Tesla did an amazing job with both of their albums of cover songs. Heck, and how could you go wrong with doing some Sly & The Family Stone and this epic to boot? I Want To Take You Higher was always among my top favourites from Sly and his band, but Tesla not only covered this fist-pumping and hard dancing classic, but took it even further; or higher ... perhaps.   Hear I Want To Take You Higher on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Pantera - 13 Steps To Nowhere   My song pick 2 years ago today: Till Lindemann - Ich Hasse Kinder   My song pick 3 years ago today: Normaal - Deurdonderen   My song pick 4 years ago today: Bootsy Collins - World Wide Funk   My song pick 5 years ago today: Sam Cooke - Chain Gang My song pick 6 years ago today: King Crimson - Lizard My song pick 7 years ago today: Band of Horses - Lying Under Oak My song pick 8 y...

5447. Tesla - Edison's Medicine

Image
From: Psychotic Supper ; Year: 1991; Genre: Hard Rock The final song of the month for my blog. For some reason I felt like listening to some of the earlier albums from the band Tesla; I I believe that I have yet to choose one from their Psychotic Supper album, so now is a good time. Edison's Medicine really has their mainstream sound in spades, very late-'80s.   Hear Edison's Medicine on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: The Grateful Dead - Throwing Stones   My song pick 2 years ago today: Redbone - When You Got Trouble   My song pick 3 years ago today: Blue Öyster Cult - Then Came the Last Days of May My song pick 4 years ago today: Jethro Tull - Audition My song pick 5 years ago today: Jethro Tull - Driving Song My song pick 6 years ago today: Bon Jovi - Dry County My song pick 7 years ago today: Soundgarden - Storm My song pick 8 years ago today: Megadeth - Go To Hell My song pick 9 years ago today: The Scorpions - Loving You S...

5341. Tesla - Love Song

Image
From: The Great Radio Controversy ; Year: 1989; Genre: Hard Rock/Glam Metal Well, it is Valentine's Day once again; even though I recently chose a song from Tesla and this album in particular I knew this was the perfect song for today. Of all the songs out there with the title Love Song , this one is one that is always the one that first comes to mind for me. Probably one of the band's most recognizable and most popular tracks to most people of my generation, and our kids I guess, who we expose the songs of our youth to in their formative years.  Anyway, while playing the bass guitar covering this one is for me kind of repetitive making the slightest mistake on the bass line is extremely noticeable from the way the song is written, so it does require a lot of concentration. Even though it, and by extension the band, got the "glam metal/power ballad" label affixed to it this one is quite interesting in how it was written and arranged; it does not really have the verse-...

5334. Tesla - Heaven's Trail (No Way Out)

Image
From: The Great Radio Controversy ; Year: 1989; Genre: Hard Rock Finally getting around to choosing another song from this great band; I've been wanting to for a while now. This is one of the lead singles off of this album and is a signature song they play live. It has a real nice bluesy sound to it along with their late-1980s hard rock.   Hear Heaven's Trail (No Way Out) on YouTube.         My song pick 1 year ago today: Ugly Kid Joe - Madman   My song pick 2 years ago today: Lakeside - Shine On (Lift Your Spirit Higher)   My song pick 3 years ago today: David Bowie - When the Wind Blows My song pick 4 years ago today: Rush - Bravado My song pick 5 years ago today: Paul Simon - Slip Slidin' Away My song pick 6 years ago today: Kiss - Strutter My song pick 7 years ago today: The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Purple Haze My song pick 8 years ago today: Earth, Wind & Fire - Fan the Fire My song pick 9 years ago today: Queensrÿche - At The ...

Image
From: Shock ; Year: 2019; Genre: Rock Been looking over some more recent albums lately and found this one from the rock band Tesla. As I always do when I check out a new album, I first sample it by the longest track on the record, which was this one. Whilst not my absolute favourite work from the band I like this song quite well. 4280. Tesla - Not Fragile

Image
From: Reel to Reel Vol. 2 ; Year: 2007; Genre: Hard Rock Discovered the existence of this album the other day and was immediately hooked; it's kind of nice to hear bands pay tribute to those who influenced them. 2570 Tesla - The Way It Is

Image
From: The Great Radio Controversy ; Year: 1989; Genre: Hard Rock The other day when I was getting some work done this song came on the television and it caught my attention; mostly due to the bass line. 1461 Tesla - Forever More

Image
1461 Tesla - Forever More From: Forever More , Year: 2009 Genre: Hard Rock I been really enjoying Tesla's Forever More album and was listening to it again last night, so I'm picking a song off of it this morning. This is, of course, the title track off of the album and one of the best tracks in my opinion. I really love that Tesla has not completely abandoned their original sound like so many other '80s bands have. Here is the studio version on YouTube. My song pick a year ago today: Led Zeppelin - Moby Dick My song pick two years ago today: Bob Marley & The Wailers - Three Little Birds My song pick three years ago today: Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR) - Bad Moon Rising +

1369 Tesla - I Wanna Live

Image
1369 Tesla - I Wanna Live From: Forever More , Year: 2008 I'm on day four of my "...And about 1300 days later" theme week, i.e. picking songs from bands that have not graced my list since my first 100 picks. Since starting this theme week I still cannot believe how many great bands I've neglected to pick a song from; I thought for sure that I had chosen another one of their songs in the past 1300 days since I last chose the last one. Anyway, the last time I chose a song from Tesla was way back on the 19th of September of '07, it was my 19th overall pick ; the song I chose was their cover of the Five-Man Electrical Band's song " Signs ." This track was their biggest hit off of their most recent release: Forever More . I have to say that I actually like this album quite a bit and definitely will have to get it in the near future. Hear I Wanna Live on YouTube. Watch the music video on YouTube. My song pick a year ago today: Rammstein -...

Song 19 ( Tesla - Signs )

Image
I had no song in mind ready to pick today, so I "spun the wheel" and came up with this one. This song is a cover that was originally recorded by the Five Man Electrical Band, which can be found here on YouTube . Most people have probably heard the original due to it being an anthem of sorts. Here is a video with a recording on YouTube. Here is an "Unplugged" performance on YouTube. +
