6187. Pat Benatar - My Clone Sleeps Alone

Image
From: In the Heat of the Night ; Year: 1979; Genre: Hard Rock I remember hearing this record a great deal whilst growing up, but this was a track that didn't seem to get played that much, at least as I can recall. Being that it was at the end of side one with three of the main hit singles before it that beckoned the needle to be dropped back on them didn't help. However, this one is quite the hidden gem, and quite a beautiful one in my opinion. It has almost the feel and energy of something Jim Steinman produced, but I believe that in and of itself is Pat Benatar's work there with her mesmerizing and powerful vocals; she could probably list the ingredients on a can of soup and make it a hit to be honest. ;P   Hear My Clone Sleeps Alone on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: The B-52's - Love Shack   My song pick 2 years ago today: Bootsy's Rubber Band - The Pinocchio Theory   My song pick 3 years ago today: Ugly Kid Joe - Come Tomorrow   ...

2291 Pat Benatar - Rated X

Image
From: In the Heat of the Night ; Year: 1979; Genre: Hard Rock Earlier this morning I happened to hear this song, which is one I hadn't heard for a very long time. Although, I can't count the amount of times I have heard it or this album before; my Mom listened to it a lot. While it definitely has its hits, I have always thought of this as album oriented rock just due to how great the deeper cuts are. Anyway, this actually a cover that was originally from Nick Gilder who is known for the song Hot Child in the City ; his original can be heard here on YouTube . It's interesting that I've never heard the original, but now knowing this I can definitely hear his influence on this song in spades. It definitely has some different subject matter that of being about the life of a porn star, but Pat Benatar's delivery is just amazing as always and makes it great song. Hear Rated X on YouTube. 2225 Pat Benatar - Invincible

Image
From: Seven the Hard Way ; Year: 1985; Genre: Rock This song has been literally running through my mind off and on for about two weeks now; as I usually do I am making it my pick. I grew up with Pat Benatar's music, and I can say even though some of her songs are over 30 years old, most have aged incredibly well; including this track. Her powerful voice that is potent in any range only adds to the empowering aspects of this song; that and the straight-forward thundering guitar, bass, and drums are what makes this song as good as it is. From what I understand this was the theme song to a film called The Legend of Billy Jean ; I've never seen or heard of it before, I might have to check it out for the soundtrack alone. Song 437 ( Pat Benatar - Treat Me Right )

Image
This song was running through my mind today while I was getting caught up on work around the house; I figured that it would be good one for my list. This is another one of those "you better realize what you have because I might leave" songs that was prevalent as subject matter around the 70s and early 80s. In my opinion, this is one of her better songs vocally, she really puts a lot into this one. I just love the straight-ahead bass driven rock that this song brings. Hear Treat Me Right on YouTube. Here is a live performance with an interview as well on YouTube. +
