6239. Curved Air - Once a Ghost, Always a Ghost

Image
From: Phantasmagoria ; Year: 1972; Genre: Progressive Rock This is a rather odd one, but in a great way. I love the different, syncopated lyrics along with the somewhat disjointed music with the Latin/Jazz flavour.   Hear Once a Ghost, Always a Ghost on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Cybotron - Ride To Infinity   My song pick 2 years ago today: The Edgar Winter Group - Animal   My song pick 3 years ago today: The Eagles - The Disco Strangler   My song pick 4 years ago today: Ian Anderson - Meliora Sequamur   My song pick 5 years ago today: The Delgados - Strathcona Slung   My song pick 6 years ago today: Genesis - Misunderstanding My song pick 7 years ago today: Pallas - The Blinding Darkness of Science My song pick 8 years ago today: Aerosmith - Remember (Walking in the Sand) My song pick 9 years ago today: AC/DC - Money Talks My song pick 10 years ago today: The Doors - People are Strange My song pick 11 years ...

5870. Curved Air - Piece of Mind

Image
From: Second Album ; Year: 1971; Genre: Symphonic Rock/Progressive Rock This epic track written by the late-great Francis Monkman has a lot, I mean A LOT going on throughout the piece. Kind of hard to precisely choose a solid genre for Piece of Mind ; there are elements of rock, jazz, different types of classical music, electronica, and even some folk elements amongst others. Whilst I like to just put it on for background music, but it's one of those pieces that will not stay there, it will demand your attention throughout most of the song.   Hear Piece of Mind on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Dire Straits - Hand in Hand   My song pick 2 years ago today: Stone Temple Pilots - Sex Type Thing   My song pick 3 years ago today: Culture Club - Do You Really Want To Hurt Me   My song pick 4 years ago today: Caramba - Hubba Hubba Zoot Zoot My song pick 5 years ago today: Big Star - In The Street My song pick 6 years ago today: Bowling ...

4093. Curved Air - Elfin Boy

Image
From: Air Cut ; Year: 1973; Genre: Folk Rock/Progressive Rock This is a rather pretty track that features Sonja Kristina's beautiful vocals and Eddie Jobson's work on synth, harpsichord, organ, and anything else with a keyboard or so it would seem. 3945. Curved Air - Phantasmagoria

Image
From: Phantasmagoria ; Year: 1972; Genre: Progressive Rock When sitting down to make my pick I couldn't help but think of Curved Air for some weird reason. To my knowledge I have yet to pick one off of their splendid third album: Phantasmagoria , so, that seems like a good place to pick from. This is a very interesting track both musically and lyrically and lives up to its title. Hear Phantasmagoria on YouTube. From: Second Album ; Year: 1971; Genre: Progressive Rock Heard a song from Curved Air the other day and made a mental note to pick one of their songs. 3336. Curved Air - Metamorphosis

Image
From: Air Cut ; Year: 1973; Genre: Progressive Rock I felt like picking some prog/rock this morning; it just fit my mood. I immediately went for one of my favourites from Curved Air. This is the longest track on the album and really showcases Eddie Jobson's piano/keyboard playing skills, but the entire band shines as well in this rather intricate song. 2463 Curved Air - Heaven (Never Seemed So Far Away)

Image
From: Airborne ; Year: 1975; Genre: Progressive Rock I'm having an extremely busy day and am making a quick pick. This track comes off of the Curved Air's last studio album prior to them disbanding, however, they did eventually get back together in '08 and made another one, which was released this year oddly enough. 2090 Curved Air - U.H.F.

Image
From: Air Cut ; Year: 1973; Genre: Progressive Rock I had this one come on my iPod the other day and I thought it would make an excellent pick for my blog. Air Cut marks the appearance of violinist and keyboardist extraordinaire Eddie Jobson with Curved Air; whoever said hard rock and violin didn't go together. Hear U.H.F. on YouTube. 1913 Curved Air - What Happens When You Blow Yourself Up?

Image
From: It Happened Today (single); Year: 1970; Genre: Progressive Rock Yesterday I was listening to some of Curved Air's songs; ever since I had this one on my mind, so, like I always do, I made it my pick. Sadly, this rather interesting song can only be found as the b-side to their It Happened Today Single , and of course now YouTube. Hear What Happens When You Blow Yourself Up? on YouTube. 1828 Curved Air - Vivaldi

Image
From: Airconditioning ; Year: 1970; Genre: Progressive Rock A few months ago I began listening to this classic progressive rock band and this morning I happened to be thinking about some of their music, so I figured what the heck, I'll go ahead and pick one of their songs. This track is almost entirely driven by Darryl Way's amazing violin playing; in fact the majority of this 7+ minute piece all but features him playing violin alone, which almost at times makes it an outright classical piece. However, at those times when the entire band kicks in it makes for a rather interesting sound. Hear the studio version on YouTube. Watch a live performance on YouTube. My song pick a year ago today: Megadeth - Endgame My song pick two years ago today: Sirenia - The Other Side My song pick three years ago today: Jethro Tull - Spiral My song pick four years ago today: Outerstar - You Love It When It Rains +
