6489. Yes - Sweet Dreams

Image
From: Time and a Word ; Year: 1970; Genre: Progressive Rock Haven't really listened to or chosen one from Yes in a while, do not know why, but just not felt like it. So, I thought I would drop the needle down on one of their earlier records and choose one. Sweet Dreams closes out side one and does so quite well following up after all the energy released in the earlier tracks.    Hear Sweet Dreams  on YouTube.         My song pick 1 year ago today: Bay City Rollers - Rock n' Roll Love Letter     My song pick 2 years ago today: Stevie Wonder - I Just Called To Say I Love You   My song pick 3 years ago today: Anita Ward - Ring My Bell   My song pick 4 years ago today: Tears for Fears - Elemental   My song pick 5 years ago today: ABBA - On And On And On   My song pick 6 years ago today: Rainbow - Stargazer My song pick 7 years ago today: Led Zeppelin - Houses of the Holy My song pick 8 years ago today: The Winery Dogs - ...

4607. Chris Squire - Safe (Canon Song)

Image
From: Fish Out Of Water ; Year: 1975; Genre: Progressive Rock/Symphonic Rock Was thinking about this album today and thought I'd pick a song from it for today's song choice. This is a long symphonic rock piece that really works good and was well written/arranged. It's cool to hear Chris Squire's distinctive bass with all the orchestral arrangements. 3628. Chris Squire - Hold Out Your Hand

Image
From: Fish Out of Water ; Year: 1975; Genre: Progressive Rock Surprised I hadn't picked this one; it's probably my favourite song off of Chris Squire's Fish Out of Water album. This one that's deceptively difficult; on the surface it has a very listenable sound to those who just want a something to dance to, but when you listen past the surface there's a lot of amazing music going on. 2894 Chris Squire - Silently Falling

Image
From: Fish Out of Water ; Year: 1975; Genre: Progressive Rock/Symphonic Rock Last night I learned that member of the band Yes and bassist extraordinaire Chris Squire passed away; a writeup can be read here on the BBC . Along with many other bassists and musicians he was one of my inspirations and will be sorely missed; at least we still have his music and performances to hold on to. I cannot even begin to state the man's influence on music; many of the bands I listen to were inspired by his work as well as myself. My thanks go out to him for all of the work he did and prayers and thoughts go out to his friends and family; may he rest in peace. Anyway, I couldn't think of picking a better song for this occasion than this rather beautiful and complex track off of his solo album. Hear Silently Falling on YouTube. My song pick a year ago today: Jim Croce - Bad, Bad Leroy Brown My song pick two years ago today: Béla Fleck and the Flecktones - Life in Eleven My song...

2493 Chris Squire - Lucky Seven

Image
From: Fish Out of Water ; Year: 1975; Genre: Progressive Rock/Jazz Fusion Last night I was listening to Chris Squire's Fish Out of Water album, which was his first solo record. This is probably one of the more recognizable tracks from the album; it has a very hard rock and jazzy feel. Plus the odd time signature from which the song's title gets its name is fun, but not in your face. Hear Lucky Seven on YouTube. My song pick a year ago today: Fleetwood Mac - The Chain My song pick two years ago today: The Grateful Dead - Casey Jones My song pick three years ago today: Fleetwood Mac - Rhiannon My song pick four years ago today: Return To Forever - The Magician My song pick five years ago today: The Gipsy Kings - Hotel California My song pick six years ago today: The Fifth Dimension - Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In
