From: Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme ; Year: 1966; Genre: Folk Rock This song has always been among my top three favourites from the duo; for a "radio friendly" 2:30 there is a whole lot to listen to, which really gives it the illusion that it is a much longer track. From: Greatest Hits, Etc. ; Year: 1977; Genre: Folk Rock/Soft Rock Got myself in the mood for something from Paul Simon; since this is one of my favourite songs from Paul Simon's solo work I'm surprised it took this long to pick it. Slip Slidin' Away , whilst being rather mellow, the polyphonic arrangement is something to behold if you listen to everything going on. As I always do, I took it as a sign that the it needed picked. Anyway, I've always liked this song every since I first heard it. Mrs. Robinson is one of those songs that has it where it counts and has it in spades: great musical arrangements, incredible lyrics, amazing vocals, and an excellent all around production quality. From: Paul Simon ; Year: 1972; Genre: Jazz/Folk Last night I was up until the wee hours of the morning playing along with Paul Simon's music. This morning I thought it would be nice to also pick one of his songs as well. This rather short tune is apparently the only song on the album to not be solely written by Paul Simon; it was co-written by legendary violinist extraordinaire Stéphane Grappelli, who also plays on it. It's very reminiscent to the Gypsy Jazz music Stéphane Grappelli played with Django Reinhardt, only Paul Simon makes no attempt to play guitar as Mr. Reinhardt did. Well, today's pick number happens to be 1972, which was also the year Paul Simon released his first solo record sans Art Garfunkel and happened to contain this song. For some reason I've always loved this song, I don't know if it's the reggae influenced music, the songwriting, the sentimental lyrics, or a combination thereof, but I've always liked it. I heard this song last week and it's been running through my mind off and on ever since. It's quite a catchy tune with interesting lyrics; very fun to listen to.
