6688. Bad Company - Can't Get Enough

Image
From: Bad Company ; Year: 1974; Genre: Blues Rock Been a while since I chose a song from Bad Company, and they have been on my mind off and on for the last few days, so why not? For most this was their first taste of this storied supergroup being that it was their first single and the lead track on their eponymous debut record. The majority of the album's content has and still does get a lot of play; definitely a classic. Anyway, whilst I have never considered myself a huge fan of the band, this track is amongst their songs that I have always liked' something about that shuffling rhythm and blues rock styling. Also noticed that many of their song that I like from Bad Company were either authored or co-authored by guitarist Mick Ralphs, who sadly passed away last year. He's one of those unsung musicians that is amazing as both a musical virtuoso and songwriter, but never full got the attention he deserved in either Mott the Hoople or Bad Company.   Hear Can't Get Enough ...

2852 Bad Company - No Smoke Without a Fire

Image
From: Dangerous Age ; Year: 1988; Genre: Hard Rock Yesterday whilst working on my truck I had a bunch of Bad Company's music on my mind and it got me thinking about picking one of their songs. This one, of course, comes from their second album with Brian Howe on vocals. I have to say, I actually like this period of the band about as much as any other; just really good music in my opinion and, as I already stated, the vocals are really great. Anyway, this is one of their bigger ones from the late 80's that was a pretty big hit and kind of their "comeback" of sorts. Hear No Smoke Without a Fire on YouTube. My song pick a year ago today: Freddy Taylor and His Swing Men from Harlem - Viper's Dream My song pick two years ago today: Mr. Big - Tempermental My song pick three years ago today: Heart - Crazy on You My song pick four years ago today: Billy Thorpe - East of Eden's Gate My song pick five years ago today: The Delegates - Convention ...

1424 Bad Company - Silver, Blue & Gold

Image
1424 Bad Company - Silver, Blue & Gold From: Run With The Pack , Year: 1976 Genre: Rock This track happened to pop into my mind this morning; I actually haven't heard it in some time. As usual, I took it as a sign I should make it my song pick for today. This is actually one of my favourites from the band. I love how they launch into majors in the chorus from the mellow verses; it gives it a very nice hook. Hear the studio version on YouTube. Here is a live performance of the song circa '02 with Run With The Pack as well on YouTube. My song pick a year ago today: Louis Armstrong - We Have All The Time In The World My song pick two years ago today: The Yardbirds - Smokestack Lightning My song pick three years ago today: Eric Clapton - Pretending +

1256 Bad Company - Holy Water

Image
1256 Bad Company - Holy Water This is one of the songs from Bad Company's era sans Paul Rodgers that I like quite a bit. I've noted that much of the music from this time period in the band's history hasn't aged as well as their more iconic tracks, but it's still quite good all the same. Hear Holy Water on YouTube. Watch the music video on YouTube. My song pick a year ago today: Azteca - Some Day We'll Get By My song pick two years ago today: Elmer Bernstein - The Magnificent Seven (Theme) My song pick three years ago today: Rush - Jacob's Ladder +

I have been watching some cowboy movies this evening and because of them, this song came to mind for my pick; plus it is a song I like a lot as well. Here is the studio version on YouTube. Here is a newer live performance on YouTube. +

Song 516 ( Bad Company - Seagull )

Image
Today while out on the road this song came on the radio and I immediately knew I had my song for today. I have always liked it a lot ever since I first heard it; I love the acoustic Folk Rock sound and feel or this song. It has seemed to me that all Bad Company albums with Paul Rodgers on them are all but greatest hit albums in themselves; there are really no weak tracks, just an amazing group of artists. Here is the studio version on YouTube. Here is a live performance on YouTube. +

Song 408 ( Bad Company - Shooting Star )

Image
This morning I realized that I have not chosen a Bad Company song yet, so I figured that I would pick one of my favourites. I love the snapshots that the song shows in the rise and eventual death of the fictitious musician "Johnny," who dies at the top of his stardom. You could apply this song to many real artists in all genres who have passed on from substance abuse and related deaths, (there are far too many to count). Anyway, this is an incredible song in so many aspects that was in need of being chosen. Here is the studio version on YouTube. +
