6484. Ozric Tentacles - Fetch Me the Pongmaster

Image
From: Vitamin Enhanced ; Year: 1993 (1988); Genre: Progressive Rock/Psychedelic Rock Throughout the 1980s, like many bands when trying to make it big, Ozric Tentacles made cassette albums that were available at their shows. However, eventually they transferred their first six albums to compact disc and sold them in the Vitamin Enhanced boxed set. Shortly after cereal brand Kellogg's sued the band over their argument that the cover art looked too similar to their iconic Corn Flakes, so the band was forced to withdraw the boxed set, which in turn made it quite the rare collector's item. Since then, each of the six albums has been released in its own right. Anyway, this one originally came from their '88 release Sliding and Gliding Worlds , and if you like technical ambient sounds and music that is just pure fun, then this one is for you.   Hear Fetch Me the Pongmaster on YouTube.         My song pick 1 year ago today: The (Young) Rascals - In the Midnight Hour ...

5754. Ozric Tentacles - Weirditude

Image
From: Strangeitude ; Year: 1991; Genre: Psychedelic Rock/Space Rock Probably the aspect of Ozric Tentacles' sound that I like the most is the huge dynamic wall of sound they make. The production and mixing is so good that you can hear the low notes and beats thump away whilst everything throughout the aural spectrum comes through in crystal clarity. By no means is this "wallpaper music" either, it truly demands attention.   Hear Weirditude on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Mott the Hoople - (Do You Remember) The Saturday Gigs   My song pick 2 years ago today: Luther - Everybody Rejoice   My song pick 3 years ago today: Wishbone Ash - Vas Dis   My song pick 4 years ago today: Journey - Spaceman My song pick 5 years ago today: Van Halen - And the Cradle Will Rock... Image
From: Technicians of the Sacred ; Year: 2015; Genre: Progressive Rock/Electronica Been quite a busy last couple of days and I'm finally getting to use my computer, so I'm making a late-ish pick.  Anyway, for last few days I have been really wanting to choose another track from Ozric Tentacles; funny enough, for once I am going with the shortest song on this album, however, it is still just over five minutes in length. 😁   Hear Butterfly Garden on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Billy Joel - Leningrad   My song pick 2 years ago today: Hot Butter - Popcorn   My song pick 3 years ago today: Parliament - Agony of Defeet   My song pick 4 years ago today: Dream Theater - Untethered Angel My song pick 5 years ago today: Oasis - Supersonic My song pick 6 years ago today: U2 - A Sort of Homecoming My song pick 7 years ago today: A-ha - The Sun Always Shines on T.V. Image
From: Space for the Earth ; Year: 2020; Genre: Progressive Rock/Psychedelic Rock Ozric Tentacles is always a good band to start a workweek with. 4855. Ozric Tentacles - Humboldt Currant

Image
From: Space for the Earth ; Year: 2020; Genre: Progressive Rock/Electronica Yay! Some new Ozric Tentacles! As always with their music, it's an instrumental, kind of a soundscape you could argue. I love the overall rhythm and groove to this one and that bass really holds it down.   Hear Humboldt Currant on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Bob Dylan - All Along the Watchtower   My song pick 2 years ago today: The O'Jays - Time To Get Down My song pick 3 years ago today: Dazz Band - Let it Whip My song pick 4 years ago today: Benny Carter - Things Ain't What They Used To Be My song pick 5 years ago today: The Kinks - Destroyer My song pick 6 years ago today: Band of Horses - The General Specific My song pick 7 years ago today: Nightwish - Song of Myself My song pick 8 years ago today: Gustav Mahler - Symphony No.4 My song pick 9 years ago today: Saigon Kick - Chanel My song pick 10 years ago today: Franz Ferdinand - Take Me Out My...

4503. Ozric Tentacles - Dissolution (The Clouds Disperse)

Image
From: Pungent Effulgent ; Year: 1989; Genre: Psychedelic Rock/Space Rock/Progressive Rock I'm in the mood for something off the wall today; can't go wrong with some Ozric Tentacles then. This really neat piece of music comes from one of their earlier albums that got, I guess, a proper release; they had quite a few albums prior, but were only released on cassette and such. Hear Dissolution (The Clouds Disperse) on YouTube. Image
From: The Yumyum Tree ; Year: 2009; Genre: Psychedelic Rock/Progressive Rock I had some of their music come on whilst driving the other day; I've been meaning to pick another one ever since. 4022. Ozric Tentacles - Mysticum Arabicola

Image
From: Erpland ; Year: 1990; Genre: Progressive Rock/Psychedelic Rock I find Ozric Tentacles to be one of those bands whose music is perfect to listen to whilst waiting or just passing time. It acts as both "wallpaper music" as well as something very interesting to occupy your attention. Anyway, to best describe this song is electronic and traditional rock music meets flamenco arabe: a beautiful piece. Hear Mysticum Arabicola on YouTube. 3895. Ozric Tentacles - Train Oasis

Image
From: Jurassic Shift ; Year: 1993; Genre: Psychedelic Rock/Progressive Rock/Jazz Fusion Here's a shorter one from Ozric Tentacles; even so in this radio-friendly length of song it still keeps the technical music coming. I really love that bass line, it really holds the song together quite well. Hear Train Oasis on YouTube. 3735. Ozric Tentacles - Far Memory

Image
From: Technicians of the Sacred ; Year: 2015; Genre: Progressive Rock/Electronica Finally got around to listening to Ozric Tentacles' most recent album and decided to pick one of my favourites from it. The band has definitely been progressing; the infusion of eastern "world music" sure does add a new dimension to their eclectic sound. To my ear it's almost like Return to Forever meets Porcupine Tree meets Tangerine Dream meets Weather Report, but still is its own thing as well. Hear Far Memory on YouTube. My song pick one year ago today: Dream Theater - Descent of the NOMACs/Dystopian Overture My song pick two years ago today: Vince Guaraldi Trio - Cast Your Fate to the Wind My song pick three years ago today: Judas Priest - Living After Midnight My song pick four years ago today: Heart - Barracuda My song pick five years ago today: The Alan Parson's Project - Breakdown My song pick six years ago today: Pink Floyd - Interstellar Overdrive M...

3600. Ozric Tentacles - Spacebase

Image
From: The Floor's Too Far Away ; Year: 2006; Genre: Progressive Rock Made it to another "odometer rollover;" I thought a good epic, and bombastic song would be called for as a pick. This almost 10-minute long instrumental is about as epic as it gets musically; a stupendous mix of traditional instruments and synth. Hear Spacebase on YouTube. My song pick one year ago today: ABBA - Two for the Price of One My song pick two years ago today: Grateful Dead - Dire Wolf My song pick three years ago today: Jethro Tull - Queen and Country My song pick four years ago today: Steely Dan - Kid Charlemagne My song pick five years ago today: Steppenwolf - Monster/Suicide/America My song pick six years ago today: Max Roach - Valse Hot My song pick seven years ago today: Nightwish - Amaranth My song pick eight years ago today: The Grateful Dead - Alabama Getway My song pick nine years ago today: Bob Seger - Night Moves

3412. Ozric Tentacles - Spyroid

Image
From: Curious Corn ; Year: 1997; Genre: Space Rock/Progressive Rock/Electronic Rock Kind of making a quick pick today and decided to keep with the out of this world spacy music I picked yesterday. Spyroid, which is the opening track to the Currious Corn album, is definitely a soundscape and a display of synth that would not be out of place in a science fiction movie. Hear Spyroid on YouTube. My song pick one year ago today: Joe Tex - I Gotcha My song pick two years ago today: Weather Report - Crystal My song pick three years ago today: Gerry Rafferty - Night Owl My song pick four years ago today: Duke Ellington - It Don't Mean a Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing) My song pick five years ago today: Jefferson Airplane - Somebody to Love My song pick six years ago today: John Denver - In My Life My song pick seven years ago today: The Charlie Daniels Band - Legend of Wooley Swamp My song pick eight years ago today: The Doors - Strange Days My song pic...

3121. Ozric Tentacles - Plant Music

Image
From: The Yumyum Tree : Year: 2009; Genre: Progressive Rock/Psychedelic Rock Ever since discovering this band I've been meaning to add one of their songs to my blog. Ever since I heard them they reminded me a wee bit of bands such as Porcupine Tree, but different still. They are a great band if you are into highly technical instrumental music, but have a great rhythm with a great thumping bass, especially on this track. Hear Plant Music on YouTube. My song pick one year ago today: Luther Vandross - Never Too Much My song pick two years ago today: Jethro Tull - Living in the Past My song pick three years ago today: Hawkwind - It Is the Business of the Future to Be Dangerous My song pick four years ago today: Earth, Wind & Fire - Fantasy My song pick five years ago today: Miles Davis - Freddie Freeloader My song pick six years ago today: Django Reinhardt & Stephane Grappelli (Quintette du Hot Club de France) - Liza ( All the Clouds'll Roll Away )...
