From: The Rocky Horror Picture Show Soundtrack ; Year: 1975; Genre: Rock 'n Roll/Glam Rock A new month starts to-day, and it has been a real busy one thus far. For me, October has always signaled the beginning of the Autumn season and thus gets me in the mood for all things related for it; one being cheesy horror and pseudo-horror flicks. I suppose The Rocky Horror Picture Show only barely qualifies as the latter, but it's still fits the season and is always entertaining no matter the time of year to be honest; especially when watched in mixed company. 😁 Anyway, this track is the show-stopper where Meat Loaf's character Eddie shows up to sing this bombastic rocker, in which as always, he kicks some serious butt vocally with epic showmanship. From: Bat Out Of Hell ; Year: 1977; Genre: Hard Rock Had this classic album playing in my head today and, as usual, it made me want to delve back into it. Bat Out Of Hell is another one of those records that, in my opinion, does not have any weak spots on it; it's definitely a masterpiece from Meat Loaf and Jim Steinman. From: Welcome to the Neighborhood ; Year: 1995; Genre: Hard Rock It's been quite a sad last couple of days after artist/performer extraordinaire Meat Loaf passed away; less that a year since the passing of his long-time collaborator Jim Steinman; I cannot believe that he was 74, I thought he was younger for some reason. He was one I listened to a fair bit back in my teens; I did not really know about him or heard his music prior to the early 1990s as he really was not on the radio and my parents were not into his music at the time, or so it would seem. I started to really get into his music about the time that my siblings and myself were discovering and buying our own personal music collections. For that decade it seemed Meat Loaf was everywhere and then I kind of lost track of him, but always have had a definite fondness for what I knew of his work, both musically and acting wise. Of course this one's about a couple of teenagers doing what teenagers do sometimes whilst parked in a car in a secluded spot. From: Bat Out of Hell II: Back Into Hell ; Year: 1993; Genre: Hard Rock/Progressive Rock Last night I heard this song and felt like an excellent song for this blasé Thursday. I always found that Jim Steinman is one of the few writers, especially when he has Meat Loaf preforming his work, to be able to not only get epic progressive songs in the pop culture, but have them get radio play; this is one of those songs. While the full 12 minute opus hardly ever gets played on the radio, the trimmed 8 minute version often does. Anyway, I've always loved the music and Meat Loaf's powerful vocals throughout this song and of course his duet with "Mrs. Loud." Hear the full 12 minute album version on YouTube. I figured for the hump day of my theme week I should choose what some refer to as "The Ultimate Wreck Song." This song features a star-studded cast of musicians from both The E-Street Band and Todd Rundgren's Utopia. It was written by Jim Steinman, who grew up with and liked a lot of the epic wreck songs from the 50's and 60's, which is when these crash songs were being made in the greatest quantity.
