6539. Banchee - Train of Life

Image
From: Banchee ; Year: 1969; Genre: Psychedelic Rock After having one of their songs come on whilst out and about I was thinkin' about bands that I discovered and came to like, such as Banchee, that only have a couple of albums, if that. It really sucks having such a limited amount of material, but then, you have a tendency to savour each note even more. Makes me wonder wot their sound would have become if they continued and things were different.... Anyway, this one kind of can get kind of lurching/disjointed going from the hard psychedelic sections and quickly into the more folkish rock parts. Sounds a lot like many mainstream bands would do a few years later in the mid-late 1970s. I really love the way they imitated a train whistle on the guitar.   Hear Train of Life on YouTube.         My song pick 1 year ago today: Icehouse - Uniform     My song pick 2 years ago today: Steely Dan - Gaucho   My song pick 3 years ago today: Doc Oliver - Soul P...

5605. Banchee - Searcher's Life

Image
From: Thinkin' ; Year: 1971; Genre: Psychedelic Rock/Blues Rock It's been a while since I chose a song from this short-lived, but ever so brilliant band, so I thought I should do so once more. I'm not too entirely sure, but I believe that this was on of the singles off their final record: Thinkin' . As usual with the music of Banchee, this bluesy piece of psychedelia has a lot of aspects that would remind you of other bands and artists kind of rolled into one.   Hear Searcher's Life on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: David Bowie - Real Cool World   My song pick 2 years ago today: Spacehog - In The Meantime   My song pick 3 years ago today: Rare Earth - Ma   My song pick 4 years ago today: Crash Test Dummies - Swimming in Your Ocean My song pick 5 years ago today: Jethro Tull - A New Day Yesterday My song pick 6 years ago today: Vital Tech Tones - Crash Course My song pick 7 years ago today: Primus - Poetry and Prose My song pick...

4353. Banchee - 3/4 Song

Image
From: Thinkin' ; Year: 1971; Genre: Hard Rock/Progressive Rock It's been a while since I last picked one from the band Banchee, which is way too long in my opinion; I really like the band. As the title suggests this song plays around with the time signature, the 3/4 (waltz) in particular. I love both the heaviness and the musicality of this track in particular. 2376 Banchee - Children of the Universe

Image
From: Thinkin' ; Year: 1971; Genre: Hard Rock/Psychedelic Rock I was wanting to pick another from Banchee, since it's been a bit since my last pick of one of their songs. This is another instance where I'm picking one that's not a favourite off the album, but it's not a song I dislike either. I guess that I am running out of material from this great band with a rather abbreviated career; the next one I pick will probably end up being off their other album. Anyway, I'd have to say this song is one of the tracks that fit the genre labeled on Banchee: 1970's hard rock with some psychedelia thrown in for good measure. Hear Children of the Universe on YouTube. My song pick a year ago today: Muse - Unnatural Selection My song pick two years ago today: The Drifters - Under the Boardwalk My song pick three years ago today: Yoko Takahashi - Zankoku na Tenshi no These ( A Cruel Angel's Thesis ) My song pick four years ago today: Aphrodite's ...

2083 Banchee - 38

Image
From: Thinkin' ; Year: 1971; Genre: Hard Rock Last night one of Banchee's songs came on whilst coming home and it got me in the mood for some more of their music. Sadly this track would end up being the band's"swan song," but at least they sent themselves out in grand fashion with a almost 9-minute long rocker. Hear 38 on YouTube. My song pick a year ago today: Xerath - Unite to Defy My song pick two years ago today: John Fogerty - Centerfield My song pick three years ago today: The Chambers Brothers - Time Has Come Today My song pick four years ago today: John Denver - Take Me Home, Country Road My song pick five years ago today: Nirvana - Lithium

1427 Banchee - Iceberg

Image
1427 Banchee - Iceberg From; Thinkin' , Year: 1970 Genre: Hard Rock/Psychedelia I just felt like picking another tune from Banchee this morning. This is one of my favourites from the band; it hails from their second and final album. Out of the two that they released I have found myself gravitating more towards this album; it's a bit more technical than the first one in my opinion. I love the musicianship and the vocal harmonies throughout this song. Hear Iceberg on YouTube. My song pick a year ago today: ZZ Top - Manic Mechanic My song pick two years ago today: Santo & Johnny - Sleepwalk My song pick three years ago today: Phil Collins - I Wish It Would Rain Down +

1415 Banchee - The Night is Calling

Image
1415 Banchee - The Night is Calling From: Banchee , Year 1969 Genre: Hard Rock/Psychedelia For the last few days I've been listening to a lot of music from Banchee, so I figured I should add another one of their songs to my list. This is one of those bands I just fell in love with the first time I heard them; it's a shame that they only managed to record just two albums. This is the first track off of their first album. It's a rather nice mellow tune; excellent music and lyrics throughout. Hear The Night is Calling on YouTube. My song pick a year ago today: Band of Horses - Cigarettes, Wedding Bands My song pick two years ago today: Bread - Guitar Man My song pick three years ago today: America - A Horse With No Name +

865 ( Banchee - John Doe )

Image
865 ( Banchee - John Doe ) I'm finally getting around to picking this great Psychedelic Hard Rock tune from the band Banchee. Since discovering their music a while ago this song in particular has become a favourite of mine. There is so much that I love about this track all across the board. I like how the wailing lead guitar almost plays a duet with the vocals at times in this very dynamic song. Here is the studio version on YouTube. My song pick a year ago today: Bob Dylan - Like A Rolling Stone My song pick two years ago today: Queen - Don't Stop Me Now +

814 ( Banchee - Beautifully Day )

Image
814 ( Banchee - Beautifully Day ) I found out about this band a bit ago and this was one of their songs I have heard that I like the most. I have not found much information about the band other than what little I could scrounge up from the meager research on them that I have done. Banchee were a short lived Acid/Psychedelic Rock group formed in '69 from Boston. They sound similar to many of the groups in their genre at the time, but are still quite distinct. The musicianship is excellent and this song is brilliantly put together; a nice track for my Friday. Hear Beautifully Day on YouTube. My song pick a year ago today: The Cure - Burn My song pick two years ago today: Fire Bomber (Hummingbird) - Dynamite Explosion +
