5841. Blondie - Maria

Image
From: No Exit ; Year: 1999; Genre: Rock I can clearly remember when this one hit the airwaves; it was kind of almost a renaissance for the band who had not really released any new material since the early '80s. Of course, Deborah Harry was quite active in that "interalbum" period, but it was definitely a welcome sound to hear that they hadn't lost much, if any, of their magic.   Hear Maria on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Crash Test Dummies (feat. 5788. Debbie Harry - Chrome

Image
From: KooKoo ; Year: 1981; Genre: New Wave/Rock/Pop No reason whatsoever that I am choosing this song other than upon listening to some early solo material from Debbie Harry I just decided to choose one. Whilst it might be kind of a sound that was more or less a zeitgeist of the late 70s/early 80s, at the time this was cutting edge for mainstream music and was very much a trailblazing sound. I really love the mix of the different styles musically that came out really well.   Hear Chrome on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Funkadelic - Maggot Brain   My song pick 2 years ago today: Jim Steinman - Left in the Dark   My song pick 3 years ago today: Bachman-Turner Overdrive (BTO) - Flat Broke Love   My song pick 4 years ago today: 4 Non Blondes - Spaceman My song pick 5 years ago today: Black 47 - I Got Laid On James Joyce's Grave My song pick 6 years ago today: Queen - Keep Yourself Alive My song pick 7 years ago today: Brass Construc...

4612. Blondie - One Way or Another

From: Parallel Lines ; Year: 1978; Genre: Rock/New Wave This is one of the band's most recognizable songs, it's sad you hear it so much being used in advertisements, but that's what happens nowadays. I remember hearing this song, (along with a lot of Blondie's other songs), when I was young; a fun song to hear. Hear One Way or Another on YouTube. 3340. Blondie - Call Me

Image
From: Call Me (single) ; Year: 1980; Genre: Rock/New Wave I had every intention of picking something from another band today, but in the end it felt like a good match for today, and plus I've apparently only picked one from Blondie prior. Since it's really not connected to and has surpassed the movie American Giggalo in fame it is interesting to think that such a big track for the band was from a studio hiring Blondie to write and record the song for it. Hear Call Me on YouTube. My song pick one year ago today: Carl Douglas - Kung Fu Fighting My song pick two years ago today: Alice in Chains - No Excuses My song pick three years ago today: Louis Armstrong - What a Wonderful World My song pick four years ago today: Chet Atkins - Battle Hymn of the Republic My song pick five years ago today: Bob Dylan - Maggie's Farm My song pick six years ago today: Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble - Life by the Drop My song pick seven years ago today: Creeden...

2115 Deborah Harry and Robin Zander - Send Love Through

Image
From: Rock & Rule (film); Year: 1983; Genre: Rock Last night I was watching some more old animated films; an interesting one that was not only fun to watch, but was also a nostalgia trip was the '83 Canadian film Rock & Rule . Many have probably not heard of this film with a cult following; essentially it is a post-apocalyptic science-fiction story about music. It actually featured quite a cast doing the singing parts of the characters, some of which featured: Deborah Harry from Blondie, Robin Zander from Cheap Trick, Lou Reed, Iggy Pop, and the band Earth, Wind & Fire performed as well. This song comes right at the end of the film, which is a duet by Deborah Harry and Robin Zander. Unfortunately, to my knowledge, there has never been a soundtrack made to this movie, so the only way to hear some of the songs is from the film; this is of course one of them. Hear the closest think you can find to a recording of Send Love Through on YouTube. My song pick ...
