6860. Triumph - Child of the City

Image
From: Edge of Excess ; Year: 1992; Genre: Hard Rock This one comes from the, sadly, most recent studio album from the band. On the record they were minus original vocalist/guitarists Rik Emmett and instead featured  Phil X on guitar whilst drummer Gil Moore performed lead vocals. I've always liked most of Triumph's material, but have never been huge into the band, or anything past the mid 1980s-ish that they put out. However, never really looked into wot they were up to since, and as it turns out, not too much. Recently though, I learned of their most recent reunion and North American tour, which got me curious.  Anyway, this was one of the lead singles from Edge of Excess, and while not close to the band's best, it's still more than good enough to quench ones' thirst for their brand of arena-rock.   Hear Child of the City on YouTube.         My song pick 1 year ago today: Aretha Franklin - Rock Steady     My song pick 2 years ago today: D...

6081. Triumph - Street Fighter

Image
From: In the Beginning... ; Year: 1995 (1976); Genre: Hard Rock/Metal Had them on my mind again, and I have to chosen one from them in a while, seemed like a great day to do so. I love the straight-up rawness on this hard rocker; the heavier music style and Rik Emmet's higher-register vocal stylings reminds me a lot of early period of their Canadian power trio brethren Rush; not really a copy, but definitely in that style.   Hear Street Fighter on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Argent - Thunder and Lightning   My song pick 2 years ago today: Hawkwind - Living on Earth   My song pick 3 years ago today: Jethro Tull - Fylingdale Flyer   My song pick 4 years ago today: Genesis - Time Table   My song pick 5 years ago today: Geddy Lee - Grace to Grace My song pick 6 years ago today: Concrete Blonde - Bloodletting (The Vampire Song) My song pick 7 years ago today: Phantom Blue - A Little Evil My song pick 8 years ago today: Cheap T...

5395. Triumph - Rock & Roll Machine

Image
From: Rock & Roll Machine ; Year: 1977; Genre: Hard Rock/Metal This is a rather heavy one off of Triumph's second album that caught my attention today whilst going over their earlier material. Besides the hard-driving rhythm and beat the musicianship is top-notch in this one; a great all around track.   Hear Rock & Roll Machine on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Bootsy's Rubber Band - Chug-A-Lug (The Bun Patrol)   My song pick 2 years ago today: Mastodon - Asleep in the Deep   My song pick 3 years ago today: Uriah Heep - Fallen Angel My song pick 4 years ago today: Depeche Mode - Strangelove My song pick 5 years ago today: Billy Joel - Uptown Girl My song pick 6 years ago today: Aerosmith - What it Takes My song pick 7 years ago today: Queen - Good Old-Fashioned Lover Boy My song pick 8 years ago today: Rush - The Trees My song pick 9 years ago today: Jethro Tull - Orion My song pick 10 years ago today: Genesis - The Re...

Image
From: Thunder Seven ; Year: 1984; Genre: Hard Rock Some nice '80s hard rock in the fashion only a band like Triumph does for this Sunday. Image
1586 Triumph - Hold On From: Just a Game , Year: 1979 Genre: Hard Rock After some recent silliness that's happening this song came to mind; I thought I would go ahead and pick it. 1233 Triumph - Magic Power

Image
1233 Triumph - Magic Power Here is one from "the other Canadian power trio" I felt like adding to the list today. It amazes me the amount of times in the past I've heard their songs, but didn't realize it was Triumph who actually wrote/performed them. This is one of their songs that I've always really liked; a nice mix of the softer ballad and the harder driving feel. Hear Magic Power on YouTube. Watch a live performance/music video on YouTube. My song pick a year ago today: Nightwish - While Your Lips Are Still Red My song pick two years ago today: The Rolling Stones - Mother's Little Helper My song pick three years ago today: Billy Joel - Two Thousand Years +

Song 30 ( Triumph - Lay It On The Line )

Image
Wow, I have made it a whole month of doing this! From now on I will have to remember what number the pick is without looking at the calendar. This is not one of my absolute favourite songs of all time, but is one that I really like. It has a real nice straight forward rock sound with driving bass lines and some Led Zeppelin feel to it. An excellent song from a really good Canadian band. Watch the music video on YouTube. +
