4345. Blue Öyster Cult - Then Came the Last Days of May

Image
From: Blue Öyster Cult ; Year: 1972; Genre: Blues Rock/Hard Rock As I've said prior, I try not to pick the same band twice or close to another, but when I noticed that today was the final day of the month of May this song just wouldn't quit playing in my mind. The lead guitar is just amazing throughout this one, and I like hearing the story told in the lyrics, which is quite a sad happening. Hear Then Came the Last Days of May on YouTube. 4338. Jethro Tull - Commons Brawl

Image
From: Nightcap ; Year: 1993 (1981); Genre: Progressive Rock I've always loved this song, which was an unreleased track from The Broadsword and the Beast recording session, that heavy driving keyboard bass along with the distorted electric guitar playing a call and response to the mandolins is just perfect. Match that with the political subject matter and it's a pretty good song, too bad it didn't make the cut to be on the album, but at least it was released later. Hear Commons Brawl on YouTube. 4337. C.W. McCall - Four Wheel Drive

Image
From: Wolf Creek Pass ; Year: 1975; Genre: Country Man, this song brings back some memories... when I was really young I loved C.W. McCall's music a lot. Singing about driving trucks and cars and other related subjects; I guess you could call it "working man's country and western." When I was little I loved that subject matter a lot. Anyway, this is one of his better-known ones about running from the police off road in a hot rod CJ-5 Jeep. Whilst there's music behind the entire track, C.W. McCall does his normal talk-singing, kind of a "country/rap" thing I guess you could call it. Four Wheel Drive is mostly remembered for the line: "CJ-5 Four Wheel Drive, Smokey on my Tail." Hear Four Wheel Drive on YouTube. 4330. Argent - Pure Love

Image
From: All Together Now ; Year: 1972; Genre: Progressive Rock/Hard Rock/classical This song has the longest play time on the album, the first 5 minutes is a complex organ piece performed by Rod Argent in the Prelude and Fantasia sections, then the rest of the band kicks into a hard rock sound in the 3rd and 4th movements.
