5540. Nazareth - Love Hurts

Image
From: Hair of the Dog ; Year: 1975; Genre: Rock/Blues Rock Nazareth's version of Love Hurts is one of those songs that most alive today who listen to mainstream music, (and/or have spent time slow dancing), have probably at some point been exposed to this track. Originally recorded by The Everly Brothers and later by Roy Orbison, which both are excellent, however, when the Scottish band Nazareth did their cover it more of less became the definitive version. They blended their great musicianship with a liberal helping of schmaltz to transform it into a monster power ballad.   Hear Love Hurts on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: The Nice - Hang on to a Dream   My song pick 2 years ago today: The Grass Roots - The River Is Wide   My song pick 3 years ago today: Blue Öyster Cult - Perfect Water My song pick 4 years ago today: Cinderella - Gypsy Road My song pick 5 years ago today: April Wine - Just Between You and Me My song pick 6 years a...

4603. Nazareth - This Flight Tonight

Image
From: Loud 'n' Proud ; Year: 1974; Genre: Hard Rock I love the galloping guitar thoughout this one; it's very high energy. This is of course a hard rock rendition of a song originally written by Joni Mitchell. They certainly made the song their own in more than one or two ways. Apparently the main galloping riff was the basis for the Heart song Barracuda as well. Hear This Flight Tonight on YouTube. From: Hair of the Dog ; Year: 1975; Genre: Hard Rock The other day I had a friend erroneously say that Hair of the Dog was an AC/DC track; I corrected him and set him straight. Anyway, since then I've had it on my mind, and since I haven't picked one from the band yet, (a big mistake on my part), I thought I would go ahead and pick it. this is a great early 70s protometal/hard rock track; ya gotta love the music all the way through it.
