William's Song a Day Blog - est. September 2007

From: Megadeth ; Year: 2026; Genre: Thrash Metal Just wanted to pick something Megadeth today, it has felt like a day for it. I discovered, (I know, I am out of the loop quite a bit anymore), that there is a new album from the band about to release later this month, which is, as of this time, supposed to be their last studio record and also marks their "farewell" tour. Three single have already been released with Tipping Point being the first one that dropped a few months ago. It is rather nice to hear Mustaine and Megadeth keeping their raw, full-throttle energy and sound still going after 40 years.    Hear Tipping Point on YouTube.         My song pick 1 year ago today: Jethro Tull - Drive on the Young Side of Life     My song pick 2 years ago today: Neil Diamond - Girl, You'll Be a Woman Soon   My song pick 3 years ago today: Elf - I'm Coming Back For You   My song pick 4 years ago today: Joan Baez - Diamonds & Rust   My...

From: Peace Sells... But Who's Buying? ; Year: 1986; Genre: Thrash Metal The last few weeks I have really done some damage to my body whilst doing work. After all the previous injuries I've been dealing with and awaiting for them to heal, within an hour of each instance I burnt my arm and suffered an electrical burn on my hand... suffice it to say, I've had the feeling like how this song describes the way it is. Anyway, this is, of course, a very unique cover of the original classic blues track, which was originally written by legendary writer and performer Willie Dixon and recorded by the incomparable legend Howlin' Wolf . Apparently Willie Dixon heard Megadeth's rendition of his classic blues standard and approved and thought their thrash metal take on it was great.   Hear I Ain't Superstitious on YouTube.          My song pick 1 year ago today: Red Siren - All Is Forgiven     My song pick 2 years ago today: Rammstein - Sehnsucht   My so...

From: Youthanasia ; Year: 1994; Genre: Thrash Metal Heard this album today whilst driving and decided to pick another song from it. Youthanasia is one of the releases from the band that, while not my favourite, it is right up there. Mostly this is due to it being smack dab in the middle of the time I started to listen to Megadeth a lot and I came to love their music.   Hear I Thought I Knew It All on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: The Music Explosion - Little Bit O' Soul   My song pick 2 years ago today: Alice Cooper - Hello Hooray   My song pick 3 years ago today: Blue Öyster Cult - Secret Road   My song pick 4 years ago today: Genesis - The Serpent   My song pick 5 years ago today: Emerson, Lake & Palmer - Knife-Edge My song pick 6 years ago today: UB40 - Rat in mi Kitchen My song pick 7 years ago today: Dust - Learning to Die My song pick 8 years ago today: Emerson, Lake & Palmer - When the Apple Blossoms Bloom...

From: United Abominations ; Year: 2007; Genre: Thrash Metal Difficult to believe that this album is now 16 years old; released just a few months prior to me starting this blog.... From: Cryptic Writings ; Year: 1997; Genre: Thrash Metal For me, Cryptic Writings was kind of the end of a "golden age," if you will, of Megadeth. The lineup of Mustaine, Ellefson, Friedman, and Menza, was something special and just pure epic in my opinion. I got into the band with the excellent album Countdown to Extinction and immediately fell in love with most of their material under this lineup. I like quite a bit of their other material from outside this "era," but I guess it was just the sound and feel from such a great time that I especially like. Anyway, as with a great deal of Megadeth's songs, this one has almost a prophetic feel to it lyrically with the way we interact with technology and each other 25 years since.   Hear Mastermind on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Bootsy Collins - Don't Take My Funk   My song pick 2 years ago today: Blue Öyster Cult - Les Invisibles   My song pick 3 years ago today: Asia - Midnight Sun My s...

From: Dystopia ; Year: 2016; Genre: Thrash Metal Having Megadeth on the brain again today; this is probably my favourite song off of their most recent release and still has that amazing sound the band has been known for since the beginning. From: Killing is my Business... and Business is Good! ; Year: 1985; Genre: Thrash Metal Ah yes, this is the song that is the namesake and is an ode of sorts to Megadeth's mascot: Vic Rattlehead . From: Dystopia ; Year: 2016; Genre: Thrash Metal Was in the mood for some Megadeth today; it just felt right. This rather pretty and heavy instrumental off their most recent Dystopia album. From: Dystopia ; Year: 2016; Genre: Thrash Metal Finally getting to check out Megadeth's most recent album, Dystopia , and I can say without a doubt that it's up there with their best. I normally go to the longest track first when sampling an album and I happened to hit one of the best songs on the record first this time; this one's definitely a must for any Megadeth or metal fan. From: Cryptic Writings ; Year: 1997; Genre: Metal Dang... another one of my favourite musicians passed away this weekend and it was one that I liked a lot: Nick Mensa . Another one dying far too young; it's just so sad on many levels. Anyway, I thought I should pick a song he played on that I liked a lot; this is probably my favourite track from Cryptic Writings , which was the last studio record with Megadeth he performed on.
