6625. Raydio - Jack and Jill

Image
From: Raydio ; Year: 1978; Genre: R&B/Soul/Disco I remember hearing this one back in the day, mostly from one of Dad's many super hits compilation albums from K-Tel, Ronco, or some other outfit. This song was from one that was titled like "Solid Gold '79" or something similar; I can see the LP sleeve in my mind, but not the title for wotever reason. Anyway, this was one of the first big hits for the band Raydio, which would soon rename themselves "Ray Parker Jr. and Raydio" before breaking up in 1981. Of course, Ray Parker Jr. would go on to a solo career and find acclaim for the theme to the classic film Ghostbusters . This one is a very smooth Soul/R&B track, which is, of course, a take on the nursery rhyme of the same name. Instead it is more of a sad tale of unrequited love between the two titular characters. For me personally though, I have never really listened closely to the lyrics, just really love the music and the arrangements; they could b...

From: Ghostbusters (soundtrack) ; Year: 1984; Genre: Synth-Rock Already three days in to October and have yet to pick something "seasonal." Well, it has been 17 years and I am finally getting this classic theme song added to my list; better late than never. This one is the mid 1980s incarnate and really does not need me to explain it; most over the last 40 years have heard it many times over.   Hear Ghostbusters on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: David Essex - Stardust   My song pick 2 years ago today: Beat Crusaders - Summerend   My song pick 3 years ago today: The Alan Parsons Project - To One in Paradise   My song pick 4 years ago today: Sky - Gymnopedie No. 1   My song pick 5 years ago today: Lawrence Gowan - A Criminal Mind   My song pick 6 years ago today: R.E.O. 5681. Ray Parker Jr. and Raydio - For Those Who Like To Groove

Image
From: Two Places At The Same Time ; Year: 1980; Genre: Funk/Soul/Electronica Wanted to go somewhere I had not been before with this, the first Funky Friday of the New Year. As you can probably easily recognize, the band Raydio was lead by Ray Parker Jr., who would, (of course), be recognized for the Ghostbusters Theme , although he had hits with Raydio as well as other big songs from his solo career. Anyway, this song, as the title states, is very much a great instrumental tune to groove to on the dance floor; gotta love those synth lines.   Hear For Those Who Like To Groove on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Dio - Sacred Heart   My song pick 2 years ago today: Brave Belt - Dunrobin's Gone   My song pick 3 years ago today: Hawkwind - The Watcher   My song pick 4 years ago today: Styx - Can't Find My Way Home My song pick 5 years ago today: Return to Forever - Theme to the Mothership My song pick 6 years ago today: Amnesty - Free Yo...
