6072. Nick Gilder - 21st Century

Image
From: City Nights ; Year: 1978; Genre: Glam Rock I remember this record in particular when young, Nick Gilder's music got a lot of airplay throughout that time if memory serves. Whilst also known for his work as frontman for the glam rock act Sweeny Todd, he made a bigger splash as a solo artist and songwriter for many others who would make huge hits out of them.   Hear 21st Century on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Brenton Wood - The Oggum Boogum Song   My song pick 2 years ago today: George Clinton - Do Fries Go With That Shake?   My song pick 3 years ago today: Jefferson Starship - Alien   My song pick 4 years ago today: Climax Blues Band - Couldn't Get It Right   My song pick 5 years ago today: Ten Years After - Over the Hill My song pick 6 years ago today: The Who - Sister Disco My song pick 7 years ago today: Pallas - Shock Treatment My song pick 8 years ago today: Marillion - Hooks in You My song pick 9 years ago to...

From: Sweeney Todd ; Year: 1975; Genre: Glam Rock Was listening to this band again today; had their music stuck in my mind and thought I'd pick another one. This track is definitely mid '70s sounding in spades, and whilst glam is not a cup-of-tea for most it's still a nice song.   Hear Short Distance, Long Journey on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Funkadelic - Foot Soldiers (Star Spangled Funky) My song pick 2 years ago today: Asia - Lying to Yourself     My song pick 3 years ago today: Simon & Garfunkel - The Boxer My song pick 4 years ago today: Rush - Kid Gloves My song pick 5 years ago today: Blood, Sweat & Tears - Spinning Wheel My song pick 6 years ago today: Rick Dees and His Cast of Idiots - Disco Duck My song pick 7 years ago today: Ian Anderson - New Blood, Old Veins My song pick 8 years ago today: Lenny Kravitz - I Love the Rain My song pick 9 years ago today: Earth, Wind & Fire - September...

3240. Sweeney Todd - Roxy Roller

Image
From: Sweeney Todd ; Year: 1975; Genre: Glam Rock Lately I've been binging on some mid 70s pop and glam rock, don't know why, it just seems to fit my moods. Anyways, this was the first hit for the Nick Gilder fronted glam band Sweeney Todd; definitely got the 1970s glam vibe all over this one. Might not be a cup of tea for everyone, but it's excellent for what it is. Hear Roxy Roller on YouTube. 2603 Nick Gilder - Here Comes the Night

Image
From: City Nights ; Year: 1978; Genre: Glam Rock Last night I had a couple of Nick Gilder's music come on whilst driving; I decided to delve into his catalogue and pick another one of his songs. This is one of his hits and it kind of gives a nice feeling of nostalgia for those who grew up in the early 1980s; songs like this were all over the radio: a great tune. 1978 Nick Gilder - Hot Child in the City

Image
From: City Nights ; Year: 1978; Genre: Pop/Rock Here's one from late 1978, (also today's song pick number); it was a pretty big hit that year. I've heard this one a lot over the years; I've always liked the way it was arranged, especially the rhythm section. It's interesting, but inside this pop/rock track is rather intense subject matter that can, most of the time, be missed by the listener. From what I understand Nick Gilder witnessed the plight of some teenage runaways who were making a living as prostitutes and he decided to write this song about what he saw. However, strangely enough he wrote the song from the point of view of the "Johns" who prey on them. Hear Hot Child in the City on YouTube.
