4284. Blue Öyster Cult - Beat 'Em Up

Image
From: Club Ninja ; Year: 1985; Genre: Hard Rock I don't know why, but I've found myself going back and listening to BÖC's Club Ninja album every now and then. Image
From: Making Movies ; Year: 1980; Genre: Rock Been having Dire Straits' music on my mind today; as usual I'm taking it as a sign to choose one of their songs. Image
From: Iron Fist ; Year: 1982; Genre: Metal/Punk Felt like hearing some Motörhead this morning and since I haven't picked one of their songs for sometime now I thought I would go ahead and make it today's pick. Image

4280. Tesla - Not Fragile

Image
From: Reel to Reel Vol. 2 ; Year: 2007; Genre: Hard Rock Discovered the existence of this album the other day and was immediately hooked; it's kind of nice to hear bands pay tribute to those who influenced them. 4279. Dan Fogelberg - Longer

Image
From: Phoenix ; Year: 1979; Genre: Soft Rock Over this busy weekend I had some of Dan Fogelberg's music come on and I thought I'd pick another one. Image
From: Quartet ; Year: 1982; Genre: New Wave Way past busy weekend gives way to a continuing busy workweek day and not really having a song in mind I went with one that's been playing in my head for the last couple days. 4277. John Denver - Sunshine On My Shoulders

Image
From: Poems, Prayers & Promises ; Year: 1971; Genre: Folk Had some of his music come on yesterday, which was a very emotionally draining time; it helped me get through a lot. That's something I've always loved about John Denver's music: the emotions in his songs are very open and ubiquitous, not some false front. Hear Sunshine On My Shoulders on YouTube. 4276. Primus - Space Farm

Image
From: Tales From the Punchbowl ; Year: 1995; Genre: Progressive Rock A super busy day today, so I'm making a quick pick. 4275. Jimmy Castor - Amazon

Image
From: Amazon (Single) ; Year: 1984; Genre: Funk/Electronica It's kind of interesting hearing Jimmy Castor in the mid-'80s electronic glory; it still has the fun funkiness that he's known for and very much a delight to listen to. 4274. Elton John - Crocodile Rock

Image
From: Don't Shoot Me I'm Only The Piano Player ; Year: 1973; Genre: Rock/Pop I'm kind of surprised that I had not chosen this song yet. It was one of the first tracks from Elton John I ever heard as a child and I remember my dad and mom playing the old 45 rpm record whilst my siblings and I would "dance" to it. For me, listening to it with a much more mature ear what catches me the most is Dee Murray's complex bass line throughout that doesn't seem to take a break and ploughs through. Hear Crocodile Rock on YouTube. My song pick 1 year ago today: Mr. Bungle - Quote Unquote (Travolta) My song pick 2 years ago today: Jane's Addiction - Stop! 4273. Fleetwood Mac - Heroes Are Hard To Find

Image

Hear Heroes Are Hard To Find on YouTube. 4272. Journey - Spaceman

Image
From: Next ; Year: 1977; Genre: Rock Been meaning to pick this song from Journey for a little while now; it's among my favourites from the band. It's one of those tracks with a lot going for it, both lyrically and musically. I really like how they play with both hard and soft rock at the same time, but keep it in the groove so to speak. Hear Spaceman on YouTube. My song pick 1 year ago today: Van Halen - And the Cradle Will Rock... 4271. Dick Dale - Esperanza

Image
From: Tribal Thunder ; Year: 1993; Genre: Surf Rock For those who do not know, King of the Surf Guitar Dick Dale passed away at the ripe young age of 81, an obituary can be read here . He is best known for the song Miserlou , which appeared on the film Pulp Fiction and has since become famous. He was one of the musicians that hold in high esteem, made it into his 80s and was still playing just about as hard as he was all along throughout his career. The man will be very much missed, but I'll still enjoy the music he left behind. Anyway, this is a very beautiful track that is based around a tango beat with the heavy-hitting surf guitar ploughing right through with the melody. Hear Esperanza on YouTube. 4270. Thin Lizzy - Dublin

Image
From: Thin Lizzy (remaster version) ; Year: 1971; Genre: Celtic Rock Happy St. Paddy's Day ! As luck would have it I had Thin Lizzy on my mind this morning and knew I had my pick for today. 4269. Rush - Second Nature

Image
From: Hold Your Fire ; Year: 1987; Genre: Rock I've always loved mid/late '80s Rush, I'm not sure why; it's normally a reviled time period of the band by a sizable group of the fanbase. Anyway, this is another keyboard heavy song that exemplifies the era, but still got a lot of wot makes Rush sound good. Hear Second Nature on YouTube. My song pick 1 year ago today: Diana Ross & The Supremes - Someday We'll be Together My song pick 2 years ago today: Megadeth - Dread and the Fugitive Mind My song pick 3 years ago today: Lynyrd Skynyrd - Gimme Back My Bullets My song pick 4 years ago today: The Castaways - Liar, Liar My song pick 5 years ago today: AC/DC - Back in Black My song pick 6 years ago today: Porcupine Tree - Mother & Child Divided My song pick 7 years ago today: The Jimmy Castor Bunch - Space Age My song pick 8 years ago today: Bass Extremes - Mocha Soca My song pick 9 years ago today: Rush - Fly By Night My song pick

4268. Parliament - Aqua Boogie (A Psychoalphadiscobetabioaquadoloop)

Image
From: Motor Booty Affair ; Year: 1978; Genre: Funk Thought I would make another Funk pick on this Friday with this extremely fun bumping and thumping piece of music from the legendary funkmasters in Parliament-Funkadelic. 4267. Emerson, Lake & Palmer - Knife-Edge

Image
From: Emerson, Lake & Palmer ; Year: 1970/71; Genre: Progressive Rock I was wanting to pick one from EL&P today for some reason. Knife-Edge is kind of a mix between classical and hard rock with the music being arranged by the band that was written by Leoš Janáček called Sinfonietta along with a mid section based on J.S. Bach's French Suite in D-Minor . Hear Knife-Edge on YouTube. 4266. Sam Cooke - Chain Gang

Image
From: Swing Low ; Year: 1961; Genre: Soul/R&B For some reason this classic from the late-great Sam Cooke got caught in my mind; a good song to get "earwormed" by. 4265. Stevie Wonder - Too Shy To Say

Image
From: Fulfillingness' First Finale ; Year: 1974; Genre: Soul Too Shy to Say is a beautiful, melodic track that feature master bassist James Jamerson and "Sneaky Pete" Kleinow on the pedal steel guitar. From: Perversion ; Year: 1998; Genre: Industrial Rock Was getting nostalgic again, mostly about some video games I used to play back in the day. 4263. Roxette - Joyride

Image
From: Joyride ; Year: 1991; Genre: Rock/Pop I thought I'd already picked this song or at least one from Roxette already, but I guess I was in error. 4262. Yes - Changes

Image
From: 90215 ; Year: 1983; Genre: Rock/Hard Rock Came into my mind this morning and thought it would be a good pick. It's one of the singles from 90215 that is fairly recognizable, but not quite as ubiquitous as others on the album. 4258. Pallas - Throwing Stones at the Wind

Image
From: The Temptations Wish It Would Rain ; Year: 1968; Genre: Motown/Soul This is one of those songs that I can play over and over again; it just so beautiful. Image
From: More Today Than Yesterday ; Year: 1969; Genre: Rock/Pop I absolutely love the music to this one; I actually used to think it was connected somehow to Motown, but it's not. That bass and the horns really make the song wot it is, the schmaltzy lyrics/vocals are just the "cherry on top" so to speak. Hear More Today Than Yesterday on YouTube.
