6015. Ozzy Osbourne - That I Never Had

Image
From: Down to Earth ; Year: 2001; Genre: Heavy Metal I started listening to this CD again, which is actually one that I have a lot of attachment to. I bought the album when it first hit the shelves right after getting married, quitting a dead-end job and starting college, so it was a huge time for me; not to mention still being in shock over 9/11 occurring a month earlier. Anyway, I was heavily into Ozzy amongst other metal bands at the time, plus it was one that was anticipated since his last CD was over six years since release. I still remember having it in my 5-disc changer in my Datsun Z and thus was played a great deal. That I Never Had was always a fun one to hear whilst speeding around the back roads; made my right foot quite heavy. 😁   Hear That I Never Had on YouTube.         My song pick 1 year ago today: The Four Tops - Right On Brother   My song pick 2 years ago today: Jim Croce - Steel Rail Blues   My song pick 3 years ago today: Kansa...

5488. Zakk Wylde - Throwin' It All Away

Image
From: Book of Shadows ; Year: 1996; Genre: Alternative Rock/Hard Rock Been really busy this weekend, which included being on the road a bunch, and thus I had a lot of time to listen to some music. Not too surprising that I had some of Zakk Wylde's music come on, which got me to choose another one of his songs. Anyway, whilst this entire record is filled with some very emotional songs, this track in particular stands out. Zakk Wylde wrote it concerning the passing of Shannon Hoon, who was the lead singer of the band Blind Melon and a friend of his. I really like how different sounding this song is from his music you'd normally think of from him.   Hear Throwin' It All Away on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: The (Detroit) Spinners - I've Got To Make It On My Own   My song pick 2 years ago today: Bootsy Collins - Bass-Rigged-System   My song pick 3 years ago today: The Rolling Stones - Angie My song pick 4 years ago today: Wolfmother - Victor...

From: No More Tears ; Year: 1991; Genre: Metal I was listening to this album the other day, this song in particular seemed like one that I should pick soon, so I am today. This period in Ozzy's music was especially great for me; a lot of good memories connected with it.   Hear Hellraiser on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Yes - Wonderous Stories   My song pick 2 years ago today: Neil Young & Crazy Horse - Shots My song pick 3 years ago today: Pallas - New Life My song pick 4 years ago today: Ultravox - Hymn My song pick 5 years ago today: Screaming Trees - Nearly Lost You My song pick 6 years ago today: Leonard Nimoy - Highly Illogical My song pick 7 years ago today: The Headhunters - If You Got It, You'll Get It My song pick 8 years ago today: Billy Joel - Piano Man My song pick 9 years ago today: Pallas - Heart Attack My song pick 10 years ago today: Chet Atkins - Windy and Warm My song pick 11 years ago today: David Bow...

2833 Zakk Wylde - Way Beyond Empty

Image
From: Book of Shadows ; Year: 1996; Genre: Hard Rock I felt like picking something just a wee bit different today, but I guess not that different from wot I normally listen to. Despite the song not being "metal" the music, vocals, and lyrics are so heavy and deep; I absolutely loved this song and album. It's definitely one of Zakk Wylde's many masterpieces. Hear Way Beyond Empty on YouTube. 2735 Ozzy Osbourne - No More Tears

Image
From: No More Tears ; Year: 1991; Genre: Metal I had a different Ozzy Osbourne song running through my mind this morning, but unfortunately I had already picked it. After looking what I had already chosen from him I was much more surprised to see that this one was not among the ones I had already picked, so it was only obvious which one I was blogging about today. Anyway, this has always been one of my top favourites from Ozzy's solo work; everything from that driving ostinato bass intro/line to Zakk Wylde's blazing guitar is done almost to perfection. And of course Ozzy's vocals and presence fills it out amazingly well. Hear No More Tears on YouTube. 2007 Ozzy Osbourne - I Don't Wanna Stop

Image
From: Black Rain ; Year: 2007; Genre: Metal I'm having another rather busy day, so I'm having to be a bit brief with this pick. Anyway, again I am picking a song where the release date coincides with the song pick number: today's is, of course, 2007. This is one of Ozzy's newest songs to still get regular rotation an play on the radio. Zakk Wylde is as excellent as always and his guitar is definitely my favourite part of this song. Watch the music video on YouTube. My song pick a year ago today: Primus - Here Come the Bastards My song pick two years ago today: Ringo Starr - It Don't Come Easy My song pick three years ago today: Molly Hatchet - Fall of the Peacemakers My song pick four years ago today: Don Mclean - American Pie My song pick five years ago today: Jethro Tull - Later, That Same Evening

1096 Black Label Society - Stillborn

Image
1096 Black Label Society - Stillborn I noticed that at almost 1100 picks thus far I have not added any Black Label Society to my list. I have also been meaning to choose this song in particular for quite some time now; for me it was another one of those "love at first note songs." I have always been a big fan of Zakk Wylde's music and the various projects he appears on. This song also features Ozzy Osbourne performing some vocals. Here is the studio version on YouTube. Song 505 ( Zakk Wylde - Farm Fiddlin' )

Image
This is another one that I have been waiting to choose for some time and now seem as a good time as ever. This song was recorded with Zakk Wylde's band Pride and Glory, which was another side-band that he formed in the 90s, and was part of the compilation: The Guitars that Rule the World . The song really shows off his range as well as his virtuosity with the different styles of music. For me the best part of the song is the first part, which is in the Bluegrass style of guitar picking and is just incredible; after that section it goes into the classic Zakk Wylde sound that is just as awesome. Here is the studio version on YouTube. +

Song 327 (Ozzy Osbourne--"Dreamer")

Image
This is another day in which I had no song in mind, so again I spun my playlist and this gem came up. Around the time of the release of this album I was heavily into Ozzy's music and I purchased the album the day it was released; this song was in my opinion the best track on the album. I always thought the song to be very Beatlesque but still very much an Ozzy song as well. Here is the studio version on YouTube. +

Song 295 (Ozzy Osbourne--"The Road To Nowhere")

Image
I felt like some Ozzy today and this is one of my more favoured songs. Its arrangements are its best attribute in my opinion, especially Zakk Wylde's guitar. Everything fits perfectly with the use of the introspective, maudlin lyrics and vocals. Here is the music video on YouTube. +
