I love their mix of reggae, new wave, and rock in not only this song, but many of their other tracks. I always like reggae and when people use it in different ways; The Police were one that fused it quite well with the more mainstream wave/rock/punk/pop sound and made a very interesting mix that has been duplicated many times over the years; this song is one of the best of their earlier attempts to do so. From Synchronicity ; Year: 1983; Genre: New Wave/Pop Today when I was sitting in the car waiting for an appointment this song came on the radio. It's weird, but for me personally I've always had it very much connected to the time period when I first heard it; because of that it hasn't become as cliché to me as it probably is to others. If you don't really listen that closely to the lyrics it almost sounds like a love song, but, as you probably know, the song is about a stalker and his ex-lover. I was taken aback the first time I actually sat down and listened to the lyrics; for quite a while I never really listened to them; I was rather focused on the music. I like the smooth and highly predicable chord progression, however my favourite part of the song is the middle eight and how they enter and exit it. Watch the music video on YouTube. 1048 The Police - The King of Pain I have no clue why this track popped into my mind; I haven't heard it in quite a while, but it fits my mood fairly well. This song has quite a few aspects that I really like, especially the chord progression; I love the transitions between the verse and chorus as well. 710 ( The Police - Synchronicity II ) A bit ago I had someone inform me that my bass playing reminded him of Sting, which I took as a compliment. It is odd, however, because I have never considered Sting as one of my main influences, however I like much of his music and consider him a highly accomplished bassist. Anyway, this is one of my favourite songs from The Police, which has nice bass line and rhythm to it. Here is a video with the studio version on YouTube. This is one of my favorite songs from Sting and the Police; it deals with the subject of alienation. The dynamics of the song are excellent, I love the way that the song drags a bit in the verses but picks up in the chorus. The rhythm section of this song is the most powerful aspect in my opinion; this is apparent in the interlude at the end of the chorus. Here is the studio version on YouTube.
