From: Strange Days ; Year: 1967; Genre: Psychedelic Rock/Blues Rock Once more went back to this record and have since had this track on my mind. From wot I've read this was either the first or one of the first songs written by Jim Morrison for The Doors. It is very much an odd composition with the weird groove and, of course, Jim Morrison's out-of-this-world lyrics/vocals. From: The Doors ; Year: 1967; Genre: Blues Rock/Psychedelic Rock Had this record from The Doors on my brain most of the day thus far. Whilst, in my personal opinion at least, there are no weak songs on this album, this bright gem can sometimes be overshadowed by the bigger hits, of which there are many. From: Waiting for the Sun ; Year: 1968; Genre: Psychedelic Rock For the last few days for some reason I've had a bunch of The Doors' music on my mind; Love Street is among my favourites from the band that I've always had a soft spot for. It is a love song in the psychedelic style of music and poetry that Jim Morrison and the band is most noted for. This is one of The Doors' most distinctive sounding songs, which is a cover of a Kurt Weill song made from a Bertoit Brecht poem. From: The Doors ; Year: 1967; Genre: Psychedelic Rock After finding out that organist/keyboardist Ray Manzarek passed away I figured it would be apropos to pick one of their songs today. This was one of the songs where, in my opinion, the riffs he played on his organ really drove the song. By the way, this is also one of my favourites from the band as well. I had at least five other songs in mind for my pick for this otherwise blasé day; it just fits mood very well. This is such a beautiful song with some of the most awesome lyrics and vocals complemented perfectly with the music; a real work of art. There is something just magical about the first Doors album, I cannot name one song off of this album that I dislike at all. This is kind of a leftover from my theme week. I almost chose it, but it technically is not a car crash song, however it technically is because of the best-known lyric contained in the song: "Indians scattered on dawn's highway bleeding, ghosts crowd the young child's fragile egg-shell mind." The song was recorded seven years after Jim Morrison's death using recordings of him reciting his poetry. Ever since I heard it I immediately loved this song, there is something about the 70's funk-inspired music combined with his poetry that really makes this song simply awesome in my opinion. From what I understand this poetry was inspired by an accident that Jim Morrison witnessed as a child; he believed that the spirits of the dead Native Americans in the crash entered his body at that time. I'm in the mood for some Doors music this morning, so here's is my pick. The bass really drives this song and makes it quite danceable. I was listening to this song this morning and it seemed like an excellent pick. I have always liked The Doors' music a lot and this song is definitely one of their best ones. I decided today that I needed to choose something by The Doors; this song is one of my favorites. From what I understand, this was the last released song that Jim Morrison recorded before his death. The song's origin as to where the inspiration came from is mostly credited to the song/story " Ghost Riders in the Sky ," however there is a lot of other rumored sources of inspiration as well. It's an excellent song to listen to in any mood; the deep lyrics and Jim Morrison's vocals along with the instrumentals make this song incredible. Here is the studio version on YouTube. +
