William's Song a Day Blog - est. September 2007

From: Badmotorfinger ; Year: 1991; Genre: Alternative Metal For me it is very difficult to say one of Soundgarden's albums is "my favourite," I just love them all and can listen from front to back, everyone of them. I will say though, there is something special about Badmotorfinger ; truthfully I cannot say I dislike a single track on it. Maybe it's because I was becoming a teen when it dropped and thus hit me a the perfect moment; who knows, right? The dynamics are amazing on this one with both hard-hitting de-tuned riffs shaking the Earth, and somewhat quieter and intricate, but just as heavy sections. Of course the musicianship and writing are near perfect, and Chris Cornell showing off his unmatched vocals throughout.   Hear Holy Water on YouTube.         My song pick 1 year ago today: Big Brother and the Holding Company (Janis Joplin) - Ball and Chain     My song pick 2 years ago today: Earth, Wind & Fire - That's the Way of the World   ...

From: Badmotorfinger ; Year: 1991; Genre: Alternative Metal/Grunge From this record I would have to say that this track in particular has the most "sludgy" sound, hearkening back to earlier days of the band.   Hear Searching With My Good Eye Closed on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: John Cougar Mellencamp - R.O.C.K. in the U.S.A. From: King Animal ; Year: 2012; Genre: Alternative Metal Been insanely busy lately and haven't been getting as much or maybe too much sleep as it were... so anyway, here's a short-but-sweet blazing track from Soundgarden's final album. I just wish they'd come out with some unreleased material that sat in a dusty shelf, I doubt it'll happen at this point, but I can dream....    Hear Attrition on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Maria Muldaur - Midnight at the Oasis   My song pick 2 years ago today: Parliament - Prelude/Gamin' On Ya   My song pick 3 years ago today: Ram Jam - Black Betty   My song pick 4 years ago today: Jigsaw - Wildfire   My song pick 5 years ago today: Simon & Garfunkel - El Cóndor Pasa (If I Could)   My song pick 6 years ago today: IQ - Awake and Nervous My song pick 7 years ago today: Nirvana - Polly My song pick 8 years ago today: Maktub - Lies My song pick 9 years ago today: Al Stewart - Ye...

From: Down on the Upside ; Year: 1997; Genre: Alternative Metal/Grunge Getting back to normal since arriving home from the coast yesterday; had Soundgarden on the ol' cabeza and, well, you know the rest. Down on the Upside is yet another record that I have grown to love the more I listen to it; it's one of those albums that you put on track one and just let it play through. One of their best efforts I would hazard to say. This is the longest song from it, which makes it all the better in my opinion; I just love the use of the Leslie Amplifier on it, which adds another neat sound.   Hear Tighter & Tighter on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Damn Yankees - Runaway   My song pick 2 years ago today: Camel - Lies   My song pick 3 years ago today: Hawkwind - 65 Million Years Ago   My song pick 4 years ago today: The Police - Don't Stand Too Close To Me My song pick 5 years ago today: Mastodon - The Wolf is Loose My song pick 6 years ...

From: Badmotorfinger ; Year: 1991; Genre: Alternative Metal/Grunge This song, and album for that matter, are pure masterpieces in my opinion, but I might be biased because I'm such a big fan of Soundgarden and their music. This is such an amazing song in how it was constructed; from great lyrics, music, beat, rhythm, etc... not to mention the otherworldly vocals by the late-great Chris Cornell and simply mindblowing guitar work from Kim Thayil.   Hear New Damage on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Blue Öyster Cult - Divine Wind   My song pick 2 years ago today: Funkadelic - Butt to Buttresusitation   My song pick 3 years ago today: Bruce Hornsby - Halcyon Days My song pick 4 years ago today: The Coasters - Smoky Joe's Cafe My song pick 5 years ago today: Quincy Jones - Killer Joe My song pick 6 years ago today: Blues Image - Lazy Day Blues My song pick 7 years ago today: Pendragon - The Pleasure of Hope My song pick 8 years ago toda...

From: Badmotorfinger ; Year: 1991; Genre: Alternative Metal/Grunge It's one of those days where only a band like Soundgarden would do. While this is a deeper track on the album, it has got a great sound and in my opinion really matches up with the other tracks on the record.    Hear Somewhere on YouTube.         My song pick 1 year ago today: Joni Mitchell - God Must Be a Boogie Man   My song pick 2 years ago today: Funkadelic - Uncle Jam My song pick 3 years ago today: Hawkwind - Looking in the Future My song pick 4 years ago today: Stratovarius - Lifetime in a Moment My song pick 5 years ago today: Nocturnal Rites - Nightmare My song pick 6 years ago today: Steve Vai - Rescue Me or Bury Me My song pick 7 years ago today: The Police - Spirits in the Material World My song pick 8 years ago today: Jethro Tull - Silver River Turning My song pick 9 years ago today: George Frideric Handel - HWV 57 - Samson My song pick 10 years ago today...
