6048. Foreigner - Feels Like the First Time

Image
From: Foreigner ; Year: 1977; Genre: Hard Rock In my subjective opinion their first, eponymous album is and will always be their best; it's one of those that I just let it play all the way through. Sure, there are some weaker songs on it, but the best more than make up for it. Feels Like the First Time has to be amongst the band's biggest hits, I especially love the rhythm section on this one, it really brings the thump.   Hear Feels Like the First Time on YouTube.         My song pick 1 year ago today: Berlin - You Don't Know   My song pick 2 years ago today: Gentle Giant - In a Glass House   My song pick 3 years ago today: Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) - Telephone Line   My song pick 4 years ago today: King Crimson - Level Five   My song pick 5 years ago today: Parliament - Placebo Syndrome My song pick 6 years ago today: Los Lonely Boys - Heaven My song pick 7 years ago today: Taylor Hawkins & The Coattail Riders - Louise My...

5557. Foreigner - The Damage Is Done

Image
From: Foreigner ; Year: 1977; Genre: Rock I might be in the minority among Foreigner fans, but without a doubt their self-titled debut album is without a single doubt my favourite from the band. On this track in particular the guitar and bass really drive it once the very computerized keyboard and vocal section concludes.    Hear The Damage Is Done on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Blancmange - Waves   My song pick 2 years ago today: "Weird Al" Yankovic - Bedrock Anthem My song pick 3 years ago today: Jerry Reed - Miller's Cave My song pick 4 years ago today: Ozric Tentacles - Yum Yum Tree My song pick 5 years ago today: Sly and the Family Stone - You Can Make it if You Try My song pick 6 years ago today: Deep Purple - Stormbringer My song pick 7 years ago today: Egg - Fugue in D-Minor My song pick 8 years ago today: Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers - The Last DJ My song pick 9 years ago today: Van Der Graaf Genera...

5340. Foreigner - Tramontane

Image
From: Double Vision ; Year: 1978; Genre: Hard Rock The other day I learned of Ian McDonald's passing after a long bout with cancer. He is probably best known as a founding member of both King Crimson and Foreigner, but had also played in other bands and with various other artists as well playing a wide variety of instruments and vocals as well as composing of songs. Anyway, this track off of Foreigner's second album is, to my knowledge, the only studio recorded instrumental in the band's catalogue; it has a great, almost overture feel to it and I wouldn't be surprised if they opened live shows with it.   Hear Tramontane on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Rush - Neurotica   My song pick 2 years ago today: Harlequin - Thinking of You   My song pick 3 years ago today: Band of Horses - Part One My song pick 4 years ago today: Maddy Prior - Deep in the Darkest Night My song pick 5 years ago today: April Wine - I Like to Rock My song pick 6 ...

5241. Foreigner - The Beat of My Heart

Image
From: Inside Information ; Year: 1987; Genre: Rock I had some songs from this record come on whilst out and about and I thought I'd revisit it. While I really like the classical guitar intro, in my opinion it contrasts too much with the edgy rock sound of the rest of the song, but other than that I really like this one.    Hear The Beat of My Heart on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Bernard Wright - Funky Beat   My song pick 2 years ago today: Genesis - The Fountain of Salmacis   My song pick 3 years ago today: Klaatu - Doctor Marvello My song pick 4 years ago today: Olivia Newton-John - Have You Never Been Mellow My song pick 5 years ago today: America - Man's Road My song pick 6 years ago today: Bernard Wright – Haboglabotribin’ My song pick 7 years ago today: Meat Loaf - I'd Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That) My song pick 8 years ago today: The Beach Boys - I Get Around My song pick 9 years ago today: D...

3455. Foreigner - Break it Up

Image
From: 4 ; Year: 1981; Genre: Hard Rock I had Foreigner's 4 album on my mind last night; as I'm always doing, I'm picking a song from it. This is one of the less successful singles, but is better than a lot of other bands' best singles in their whole careers. A good straight-up, no frills rocker. Hear Break it Up on YouTube. My song pick one year ago today: Supertramp - Goodbye Stranger My song pick two years ago today: The Chakachas - Stories My song pick three years ago today: Savatage - Scream Murder My song pick four years ago today: Sweet - Fox on the Run My song pick five years ago today: Van der Graaf Generator - Whatever Would Robert Have Said? 3313. Foreigner - Juke Box Hero

Image
From: 4 ; Year: 1981; Genre: Hard Rock While visiting a local theme park yesterday I heard this song coming from one of the attractions; it felt like a great day for some Foreigner, so why not? I was actually surprised that I have yet to pick this one, which is one of my favourites from the band. I just love that hard-driving synth, which was apparently provided by one Thomas Dolby, whose career was about to breakthrough. It's sad that Foreigner softened their music a lot after 4 , but they still had a few I suppose, but nothing like this album/song. Hear Juke Box Hero on YouTube. My song pick one year ago today: AC/DC - Touch Too Much My song pick two years ago today: Bachman-Turner Overdrive (BTO) - Find Out About Love My song pick three years ago today: Hawkwind - Orgone Accumulator My song pick four years ago today: Robert Schumann - Op. 17 - Fantasie in C My song pick five years ago today: Muse - Supermassive Black Hole My song pick six years ago toda...

2883 Foreigner - Spell Binder

Image
From: Double Vision ; Year: 1978; Genre: Rock For some reason I'm in the mood for something from the early period from the band foreigner. This bass guitar driven track, which closes out their second studio album has always been one of my favourites from the record. Hear Spell Binder on YouTube. My song pick a year ago today: Al Di Meola - Spanish Eyes My song pick two years ago today: Of Monsters and Men - Dirty Paws My song pick three years ago today: Three Dog Night - It's For You My song pick four years ago today: Warrant - Uncle Tom's Cabin My song pick five years ago today: Bon Jovi - Keep The Faith My song pick six years ago today: Neil Young - Rockin' in the Free World My song pick seven years ago today: Savatage - Skull Session

2757 Foreigner - At War With the World

Image
From: Foreigner ; Year: 1977; Genre: Hard Rock I started today without a song in mind, but I started to think about the band Foreigner for some reason and it got me in the mood for one of their songs. I've always loved the first four albums in particular, the first two especially; almost anything after that I never truly liked. Anyway, this is an excellent one of the deeper cuts off of their debut album; it's got that riff-heavy hard edge along with the great melodies they were known for early on. Hear At War With the World on YouTube. My song pick a year ago today: King Crimson - Pictures of a City (including "42nd at Treadmill") My song pick two years ago today: Neil Young - Four Strong Winds My song pick three years ago today: Jethro Tull - Jump Start My song pick four years ago today: Chet Atkins - Trambone My song pick five years ago today: John Denver - Wildflowers in a Mason Jar My song pick six years ago today: Jethro Tull - Locomotive ...

2382 Foreigner - Blue Morning, Blue Day

Image
From: Double Vision ; Year: 1978; Genre: Hard Rock After going over Foreigner's material the other day I noticed that I only really like their music from their first four albums. I guess it might be that the band lightened their sound or just that their music after that just didn't speak to me, who knows. Anyway, this is one of my favourites not only from the Double Vision album, but from the band as a whole. I've always loved the heavy, bluesy feel of this track along with the awesome riffs. Hear Blue Morning, Blue Day on YouTube. My song pick a year ago today: Voivod - Mechanical Mind My song pick two years ago today: Quasar - Fanfare/Seeing Stars My song pick three years ago today: Waylander - A Hero's Lament My song pick four years ago today: Queen - Seaside Rendezvous My song pick five years ago today: Warren Zevon - Werewolves of London My song pick six years ago today: Band of Horses - Is There A Ghost?

2129 Foreigner - Head Games

Image
From: Head Games ; Year: 1979; Genre: Hard Rock After listening to some of their music today I thought I would pick one from Foreigner. While this track is not my absolute favourite from the band, it is amongst the ones from the band that I like. Hear Head Games on YouTube. My song pick a year ago today: Pearl Jam - Alive My song pick two years ago today: White Zombie - Thunder Kiss '65 My song pick three years ago today: Peter Gabriel - Sledgehammer My song pick four years ago today: Johann Sebastian Bach - BWV 29 - Cantata No. 29 - Wir Danken Dir, Gott, Wir Danken Dir My song pick five years ago today: Tears For Fears - Sowing the Seeds of Love

2020 Foreigner - Double Vision

Image
From: Double Vision ; Year: 1978; Genre: Hard Rock When I saw today's pick number, (2020), this was the first song to pop into my head, so I'm picking it. It is definitely not my favourite song from the band, added with the fact of it being used so much in advertising, I've grown to like it even less. That being said, however, it is still one of the band's more recognizable hits. Hear Double Vision on YouTube. My song pick a year ago today: Porcupine Tree - Dark Matter My song pick two years ago today: Robin Trower - Bridge of Sighs My song pick three years ago today: The Rolling Stones - Sympathy for the Devil My song pick four years ago today: The Moody Blues - OM My song pick five years ago today: Jon Oliva's Pain - Guardian Of Forever

1004 Foreigner - Starrider

Image
1004 Foreigner - Starrider I had not heard this song in well over 10 years, last night whilst playing some video games for no reason it started playing in my mind; after that I knew I had my pick for the day. This one could be considered a Space Rock track of sorts due to the subject matter/lyrical content. However, the way it was arranged makes it a very accessible track to most anyone; there is a definite Pink Floyd sound to this track mixed in. I love songs like this where you can get lost in thought listening to them. Anyway, I used to listen to Foreigner a lot, but for some reason their music has ebbed in the rotation. However, my affinity for their music has not waned at all; I love hearing them when they come of the radio. For me their debut album, which this song comes off of, has always been my favourite out of their catalogue; I can usually play the record without skipping any songs. For me it seems as if their is a correlation with each consecutive release and how ...

Song 322 (Foreigner--"Long, Long Way From Home")

Image
I realized that Foreigner has not graced my list as of yet. This morning " Long, Long Way From Home " was played on the radio and I felt it would be an excellent choice. This straight-up rocker has a lot of descent hooks that really grab the attention of the listener. Probably the best ones are in the interludes with the way they mix the guitar and synthesizer. The whole song is very tight and well arranged. Of course, it does have the early Foreigner sound before they smoothed and mellowed out their music, which is a definite plus. Here is the studio version on YouTube. Here is a live performance on YouTube. +
