2219 The Buoys - Castle

From: The Buoys ; Year: 1971; Genre: Rock I decided on doing another theme like I did five years ago ; basically I am picking songs from the same bands I did my first seven days. It seems that this "one hit wonder" band; The Buoys, actually had a few songs of note; maybe not on the same level as Timothy , but good all the same. I really like their use of the harpsichord; and the over Baroque feel of this track. Hear Castles on YouTube. My song pick a year ago today: Asia - After the War My song pick two years ago today: Peter Gabriel - In Your Eyes My song pick three years ago today: The Steve Miller Band - Something Special My song pick four years ago today: Johann Sebastian Bach - BWV 1048 - Brandenburg Concerto No.3 in G-Major   My song pick five years ago today: The Buoys - Give Up Your Guns   My song pick six years ago today: The Buoys - Timothy

Song 370 ( The Buoys - Give Up Your Guns )

For this week I am choosing songs by bands that I chose the first week of this song blog. The song I chose for my second pick was the infamous song about cannibalism that is Timothy by The Buoys. The problem for me finding another song by them is that they were a one-hit band, however a bit ago I found out that they did, in fact, have another minor hit called Give Up Your Guns . This is a mellow song that is of the style that is atypical of pop/rock of the era. The song chronicles a bank robber who is held up in a cabin with a woman who wants him to turn himself in and, as the title suggests give up his guns; the song mostly is about him pondering the decision. Song 2 (The Buoys - Timothy )

For my second pick I decided to pick this one: Timothy by The Buoys . This song came to my attention quite recently in a conversation about all of the recent mine disasters. The song is about a mine disaster in which three men are trapped in the mine and only two come out... Needless to say this song is a bit disturbing, however it was written so it would cause controversy; it was banned on many radio stations. I think that the song itself captures the how far humans will go if things get too tough. The band "The Buoys" were another one hit wonder and this is their hit. All in all it is a very poppy tune with a good beat and if you don't listen to the lyrics you can see why it hit 17 in 1971. Here is the studio version on YouTube. +
