2915 The Byrds - Mr. Spaceman

From: Fifth Dimension ; Year: 1966; Genre: Psychedelic Rock/Space Rock This rather cute little ditty about visitors from outer space for some reason felt like a great pick for today; it really fit my mood. Definitely the song sounds like much of the music from the time period, but even with the dated sound it's still got a lot of charm and is a great track. Hear Mr. Spaceman on YouTube. 1965 The Byrds - Mr. Tambourine Man

Image
From: Mr. Tambourine Man ; Year: 1965; Genre: Folk Rock There were a great deal of songs released in 1965, (today's song pick number), that I thought about choosing. When I noticed that The Byrds' famous cover of this Bob Dylan track was released that year and that I hadn't picked it yet I knew I had my song for today. I've always loved this ever since I first heard it; it's one of my favourites from The Byrds. Interestingly enough, other than the vocals and Roger McGuinn's 12-string guitar the studio version of this song was actually performed by studio musicians. Hear Mr. Tambourine Man on YouTube. My song pick a year ago today: Trans-Siberian Orchestra - Siberian Sleigh Ride My song pick two years ago today: Twisted Sister - Oh Come All Ye Faithful My song pick three years ago today: Trans-Siberian Orchestra - Joy/Angels We Have Heard on High My song pick four years ago today: The Kinks - Father Christmas My song pick five years ago to...

1817 The Byrds - Turn! Turn! Turn! (to Everything There Is a Season)

Image
From: Turn! Turn! Turn! ; Year: 1965; Genre: Folk Rock I heard this song whilst heading home tonight after yet another busy day and it seemed like a nice track to bring the day to a close. Ever since I first heard this song when I was very young I loved it, and I am actually surprised that I hadn't picked it yet. As many probably know, or maybe not know, the lyrics of this song, which was originally recorded by Pete Seeger were almost entirely taken from The Bible's book of Ecclesiastes 3:1. From what I understand when The Byrds recorded their cover, which, of course became a huge hit, it actually gave the song the distinction of being the number 1 hit with the oldest lyrics. Anyway, I could go on quite a bit longer about this one, but it's late. So, I'll catch you all tomorrow. Hear Turn! Turn! Turn! (to Everything There Is a Season) on YouTube. 888 ( The Byrds - Eight Miles High )

Image
888 ( The Byrds - Eight Miles High ) I had another song in mind today to pick, however when I started my post I noticed the number of the song on my list: 888. This song with a fitting title popped into my mind quite quickly; this combined with the fact that I have not added a Byrds song to the list yet I figured I should pick this one. Anyway, ever since I first heard this song I liked it, there is something about the structure and chord progression combined by the vocal harmonies that I like. Here is a remastered studio version on YouTube. Here is an alternate version of the song on YouTube. My song pick a year ago today: Wings - Band on the Run My song pick two years ago today: Faith No More - Woodpecker From Mars +
