William's Song a Day Blog - est. September 2007

From: Every Picture Tells A Story ; Year: 1971; Genre: Hard Rock/Soul I had the band Faces on my mind today, and whilst this is a proper Rod Stewart album all the members of Faces at the time were present on this track as far as I know. This is, of course, a cover of the song first recorded by The Temptations; I like how the band pays homage to it while at the same time making a very unique version of the song. From: There Are But Four Small Faces ; Year: 1967; Genre: Psychedelic Rock Recently this song came to my mind after many decades of not hearing it, even at that I had not listened to it that much. Funny enough, my memories hooked to this song are from an old Commodore 64 game I believe was called " Street Beat ." It was a game where you went around a city in a sandbox style where you were supposed to make random people dance. Funny enough, all the places and landmarks in the game were named after places in popular songs; one of which was Itchycoo Park. It's hard for me to not think about this game when hearing this song. From: A Nod Is As Good As a Wink... To a Blind Horse ; Year: 1971; Genre: Hard Rock I always find it interesting about the band Faces; they are almost like a supergroup in reverse with how members went on to super stardom. However, this was a case that, in my opinion, not only were the individual parts great, but as a whole they were great as well. I love that driving rhythm section and of course Rod Stewart's unmistakable voice, but for me Ronnie Wood's slide guitar is the the amazing cherry to top it off. Hear Stay With Me on YouTube.
