From: Shot of Love ; Year: 1978; Genre: Funk/Soul/Jazz As always, Lakeside puts a smile on my face, which is in actuality true of most funk bands. This is a fun, funky track that contains a lot of neat musical ideas and concepts from jazz to disco and everything in between. I especially love the arrangements, but that bass is just monstrous, those instrumental breaks in particular. I can hear a great deal of Stevie Wonder's influence in spades.   Hear One Minute After Midnight on YouTube.         My song pick 1 year ago today: Jethro Tull - Re-Assuring Tune     My song pick 2 years ago today: Supertramp - Child of Vision   My song pick 3 years ago today: Aphrodite's Child - The System/Babylon   My song pick 4 years ago today: Arlo Guthrie - Coming Into Los Angeles   My song pick 5 years ago today: The Who - Success Story   My song pick 6 years ago today: Booker T. & The MG's - My Sweet Potato   My song pick 7 years ago to...

From: Party Patrol ; Year: 1990; Genre: Funk/Soul/Electronica/New Jack Swing Had this very fun album come on while I was out and about the other day and knew I needed to revisit it on my blog. Almost every aspect of Lakeside's Party Patrol stirs memories; not really of the album per se, but of the sound that it represents so well. That blend of the band's brand of electronic funk with the new jack swing beats that were so prevalent back in the '80s and '90s is absolutely perfect if you are in the mood for nostalgia from that time.   Hear U Got It Goin' On on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Genesis - Counting Out Time   My song pick 2 years ago today: Asia - Never Again   My song pick 3 years ago today: Red Hot Chili Peppers - Go Robot   My song pick 4 years ago today: What Made Milwaukee Famous - Trying to Never Catch Up My song pick 5 years ago today: Van der Graaf Generator - Pilgrims My song pick 6 years ago today: Pink Floyd - ...

From: Party Patrol ; Year: 1990; Genre: Funk/Electronica/New Jack Swing I don't know why, but I've had this album in particular on my mind for most of the week, so a few days ago I decided that I'd make the title-track the week's Funky Friday pick.  Anyway, ever since I first listened to this record it had such a good and familiar feel and sound to it I just fell in love with it. Most anybody who listened to music from the mid/late 1980s to, I guess, about the mid/late 1990s should instantly recognize a lot of the elements in this electro-funk track with a good helping of that new jack swing rhythm/beat that was very popular at the time. Yes, the track may have a sound dated to that point in time, but in my opinion it was a great time to consume music, especially funk/soul/R&B amongst others.   Hear Party Patrol on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Nocturnal Rites - Never Trust   My song pick 2 years ago today: Quiet Riot - Metal Health (...

From: Party Patrol ; Year: 1990; Genre: Funk/Electronica/R&B Celebrating another Funky Friday with this early '90s offering from the band Lakeside. I remember hearing a lot of music in this style back then, thus this track has some nostalgia factor for me. From what I understand, one of the genres that this song in particular fits into is " New Jack Swing ," which, if you were around during the mid '80s to mid '90s, will be instantly recognizable.   Hear Money on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Devo - Working in a Coal Mine   My song pick 2 years ago today: Mastodon - Steambreather   My song pick 3 years ago today: Jethro Tull - Sweet Dream My song pick 4 years ago today: AC/DC - R.I.P.
