From: 'The Hoople ; Year: 1974; Genre: Glam Rock It is interesting how Mott the Hoople has always been on some sort of a "periphery" for me personally; only knew a couple songs of theirs, liked wot I heard, but only recently have been delving into their catalogue. I first heard a cover of this song by Def Leppard some years ago and it got me wanting to hear the original. From: The Hoople (reissue) ; Year: 1974; Genre: Glam Rock Whilst this song originally was a non-album single, it was later added as a bonus song on later releases, which really made it more accessible to me to hear. Apparently, around the time before and after its recording the band had musicians leave and join before Mott the Hoople would essentially end and reform as "Mott," so it's kind of a great send-off to the lineup. This song was written by David Bowie and made famous by the Glam/Prog-Rock band Mott The Hoople as their most famous hit. To me the lyrics have always been about disenfranchised young people busting out and spreading their wings.
