From: Steppenwolf ; Year: 1968; Genre: Hard Rock Had this one on my mind last night, and after seeing that I had not chosen it yet, thought I would pick it. From: The Second ; Year: 1968; Genre: Hard Rock/Psychedelic Rock Was thinking about picking one from Steppenwolf today; didn't realize not only that I had not chosen this classic piece of heavy psychedelia, but that I have only chosen two songs thus far from the band... I need to get with the program. Anyway, I cannot remember the first time I heard Magic Carpet Ride , but I must've been quite young, and I have heard it more times than I can count since. Whilst heavy in the psychedelic zeitgeists of the late 1960s, there is something about it that seems to keep it fresh and, may I say, "timeless" to an extent.   Hear Magic Carpet Ride on YouTube.         My song pick 1 year ago today: The Nightwatchman - Which Side Are You On?   My song pick 2 years ago today: Manfred Mann - Fox on the Run   My song pick 3 years ago today: Foreigner - Inside Information   My song pick 4 years ago today: Earth, Wind & Fire - Tee Nine Chee Bit   My song p...

From: "At Your Birthday Party" ; Year: 1969; Genre: Hard Rock I had some other songs in mind today, but then I happened to notice that I've only chosen one song from Steppenwolf thus far, so I'm adding another. This track has their hard-edged rock sound and feel with a smidgen of mainstream in there for good measure. Hear Rock Me on YouTube. My song pick 1 year ago today: ABBA - One of Us My song pick 2 years ago today: Rick James - Below the Funk (Pass the J) My song pick 3 years ago today: Black Sabbath - Symptom of the Universe My song pick 4 years ago today: Pallas - Just a Memory My song pick 5 years ago today: Steeleye Span - Orfeo/Nathan's Reel My song pick 6 years ago today: Alestorm - Flower of Scotland My song pick 7 years ago today: Cybotron - Colossus My song pick 8 years ago today: AC/DC - Let There Be Rock My song pick 9 years ago today: Steeleye Span - Black Jack Davy My song pick 10 years ago today: Heart - These Dre...

From: Monster ; Year: 1969; Genre: Hard Rock As I trundle on towards 2000 songs picked some of the bands I've yet to pick a song from is staggering and amazing. I've actually been a fan of Steppenwolf for many years and love much of their music. Funny enough, other than hearing Born to be Wild and Magic Carpet Ride countless times before, I was actually introduced to the band through one of those "evil rock and roll" spiels that churches put on from time to time; get this: they actually called Steppenwolf one of "the devil's" bands! Isn't it odd how many times fundamentalist groups go out on their crusades against things that have nothing to do with what they're accusing them of and then come away with egg on their faces. You'd think that they'd learn their lesson eventually and quit being like the boy who cried "wolf," or "Steppenwolf" in this instance. ((Quietly awaits for the "pun police" to arriv...
