5020. Bob Dylan - It Ain't Me Babe

Image
From: Another Side of Bob Dylan ; Year: 1964; Genre: Folk I recollect the cover of this song by The Turtles, others might remember another cover by someone else, or even perhaps the original; as with a many song from that era it came from the pen of Bob Dylan. This one has a very pronounced folk sound to it, bare bones, but quite heavy at the same time.   Hear It Ain't Me Babe on YouTube.         My song pick 1 year ago today: Of Monsters and Men - Alligator   My song pick 2 years ago today: Blue Öyster Cult - Beat 'Em Up My song pick 3 years ago today: ZZ Top - Cheap Sunglasses My song pick 4 years ago today: Earth, Wind & Fire - Time Is On Your Side My song pick 5 years ago today: Exile - Please Be There My song pick 6 years ago today: Hank Williams - Hey Good Lookin' My song pick 7 years ago today: Queensrÿche - Speak My song pick 8 years ago today: The Beach Boys - God Only Knows My song pick 9 years ago today: Hawkwind - Living on a Knife Edge My

5018. Styx - Earl of Roseland

Image
From: Styx II ; Year: 1973: Genre: Hard Rock From what I understand, this song is autobiographical of JY Young's early years of growing up in the Roseland neighbourhood and playing music in a band with the Panozzo Brothers, who would of course later become Styx. This is a really good song that is atypical of the early Styx sound.   Hear Earl of Roseland on YouTube.         My song pick 1 year ago today: Klaatu - A Routine Day   My song pick 2 years ago today: Motörhead - Iron Fist My song pick 3 years ago today: The Allman Brothers Band - Stand Back My song pick 4 years ago today: Mastodon - High Road My song pick 5 years ago today: A-Ha - Love is Reason My song pick 6 years ago today: Bob Seger - Turn the Page My song pick 7 years ago today: Rage Against the Machine - The Ghost of Tom Joad My song pick 8 years ago today: Dire Straits - Walk of Life My song pick 9 years ago today: The Foggy Mountain Boys (Flatt & Scruggs) - Cripple Creek My song pick 10 years

5016. Traffic - Feelin' Alright?

Image
From: Traffic ; Year: 1968; Genre: Rock I'm kind of surprised that I had not chosen this original version of Feelin' Alright? as of yet, but better late than never I guess. This version is a bit less heavy than the most popular cover by Joe Cocker, but has incredible musicianship throughout.   Hear Feelin' Alright? on YouTube.         My song pick 1 year ago today: Bad Company - Ready for Love   My song pick 2 years ago today: Tesla - Not Fragile My song pick 3 years ago today: Jigsaw - Ready to Ride My song pick 4 years ago today: Billy Joel - Big Man on Mulberry Street My song pick 5 years ago today: INXS - Suicide Blonde My song pick 6 years ago today: Pleasure - Bouncy Lady My song pick 7 years ago today: Pearl Jam - Once My song pick 8 years ago today: Rush - Lock and Key My song pick 9 years ago today: Porcupine Tree - Time Flies My song pick 10 years ago today: David Bowie - Life on Mars? Image
From: Back Home Again ; Year: 1974; Genre: Folk/Country This is one of many John Denver albums that are permanently burnt into my mind from being played a lot when I was young; my mom especially loves them a lot. 5013. Toronto - Lookin' for Trouble

Image
From: Lookin' for Trouble ; Year: 1980; Genre: Hard Rock Was thinking about this band, Toronto, when I was sitting down to make today's pick, so, as usual, I'm picking one from them. 5012. Blue Öyster Cult - Sinful Love

Image
From: Agents of Fortune ; Year: 1976: Genre: Hard Rock Was bingeing on some BÖC last night and they've since remained on my mind; Agents of Fortune in particular was one of the records I played a lot from. There's a lot of great songs on this album, this being one of them. 5011. Santana - Song of the Wind

Image
From: Caravanserai ; Year: 1972; Genre: Jazz Fusion/Latin Rock Caravanserai is still one of my favourites from Santana. This song is a little bit more in the wheelhouse of the regular Santana sound compared to the other tracks on the album. I really like the use of the Hammond Organ as the second lead instrument; it makes the song sound quite excellent.   Hear Song of the Wind on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Elton John - Jamaica Jerk-Off   My song pick 2 years ago today: Jimmy Castor - Amazon My song pick 3 years ago today: April Wine - Enough is Enough My song pick 4 years ago today: Faith No More - Falling to Pieces My song pick 5 years ago today: The Presidents of the United States of America - Peaches My song pick 6 years ago today: The Rolling Stones - Midnight Rambler My song pick 7 years ago today: The Five Stairsteps - O-o-o Child My song pick 8 years ago today: The Delgados - Mr. Blue Sky My song pick 9 years ago today: Muse - Citizen Erase

5005. Utopia - Set Me Free

Image
From: Adventures in Utopia ; Year: 1979; Genre: Progressive Rock Utopia is another band that's considered a "One Hit Wonder" with this song being it, however I find that the label of "One Hit Wonder" is a bit off normally. This is true of this band as well, they had many other great songs, just no others in the top 50 here in the U.S..   Hear Set Me Free on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Nick Gilder - Rated X   My song pick 2 years ago today: Rush - Second Nature My song pick 3 years ago today: Diana Ross & The Supremes - Someday We'll be Together My song pick 4 years ago today: Megadeth - Dread and the Fugitive Mind My song pick 5 years ago today: Lynyrd Skynyrd - Gimme Back My Bullets My song pick 6 years ago today: The Castaways - Liar, Liar My song pick 7 years ago today: AC/DC - Back in Black My song pick 8 years ago today: Porcupine Tree - Mother & Child Divided My song pick 9 years ago today: The Jimmy Castor B

5004. Alice Cooper - I'm Eighteen

Image
From: Love it to Death ; Year: 1971; Genre: Hard Rock I'm surprised sometimes how long it took me to pick certain songs, this being one of those. 5000. Glenn Miller - PEnnsylvania 6 - 5000

Image
From: PEnnsylvania 6 - 5000 ; Year: 1940; Genre: Big Band Jazz/Swing It's taken me 13+ years to get here, but I finally made it to the big 5000, which would be halfway to the original goal that I had set (10,000). However, I have since changed my mind and decided to go as long as I can, if that takes me beyond 10,000 songs picked then that'll be cool. Anyway, this song just seemed to be the perfect one for today's monumental pick. For those who do not know the song title was the old way that telephone numbers were done from the 30s to the 60s, which was two letters and five numbers: PE-65000. This number was for the Hotel Pennsylvania's Cafe Rouge where many big bands played.   Hear PEnnsylvania 6 - 5000 on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Nirvana - Negative Creep   My song pick 2 years ago today: Gravity Kills - Falling My song pick 3 years ago today: The Network - Roshambo My song pick 4 years ago today: Glass Tiger - Animal Heart My song pick 5 ye

Image
From: The Winery Dogs ; Year: 2013; Genre: Hard Rock Have been meaning to pick one from The Winery Dogs for the last few days, but other songs got in the way. Image
