2557 Nocturnal Rites - Ring of Steel

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/61fNcdv975L._SL500_AA280_.jpg
From: Tales of Mystery and Imagination; Year: 1997; Genre: Power Metal
I had this song on my mind this morning, so, as I always do, I took it as a sign that I was to pick it.
Anyway, much to the dismay to others it's written very similar to Johann Pachelbel's Cannon in D-Minor. For the first 1:20 or so it plays the melody in a classical chamber music style and then kicks in for with the full band. I absolutely love this one; it's fun to listen to and the different ways they play that melody within the context of the song.

From: Vampires, Cowboys, Spacemen, & Spooks: The Very Best of Joe Meek's Instrumentals; Year: (1962); Genre: Instrumental Rock
I had another song in mind for today, but this neat piece of instrumental music seemed to fit my mood better, so it's my pick. You can instantly tell that this is another one produced by the incomparable Joe Meek; his mark is all over it.

2554 Karussell - Wintermärchen

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/61LIwh2bA9L._SL500_AA280_.jpg
From: Solche wie du; Year: 1989; Genre: Rock
The other day this track came on my iPod whilst on the road and it felt like a great pick for this Sunday. This is another nice song from the twilight of the DDR period of music from Karussell just before The Wall came down. This is still one of my favourite albums from the band and contains a lot of music I like, including this song.

2552 Chet Atkins - Funky Junk

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/3/3a/Chet_Atkins_Picks_On_Jerry_Reed.jpg
From: Chet Atkins Picks on Jerry Reed; Year: 1974; Genre: Country/Funk
Today marks my 45th consecutive Funky Friday and when thinking about what to pick I decided on something way out in left field from what's expected. As a crossover between country pickin' and funk this one does pretty good. As with the rest of the music on the album, this is a cover by Chet Atkins of songs Jerry Reed wrote. It starts out with his normal style country/blues picking with a slight hint of ragtime, but slowly gains the funky beat and each time the tune comes around the music gets funkier and then eventually brings it back down.

2547 Toronto - Enough is Enough

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51GEqttQMyL._SL500_AA280_.jpg
From: Head On; Year: 1981; Genre: Hard Rock
I'm getting pick in from another band that I haven't picked one from yet. I like the sound of this album from the band in particular and then I happened to realize that Terry Brown produced it; so no wonder. To explain the sound of this song in particular would probably be best said as a mix between Heart, Jefferson Starship, and Triumph; it's a great track and definitely worth a listen.

2542 John Fogerty - A Hundred and Ten in the Shade

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51gJQMNkXsL._SL500_AA280_.jpg
From: Blue Moon Swamp; Year: 1997; Genre: Blues/Blues Rock
I had a couple of other songs in mind for my pick today, but this one, which has been playing in my mind off and on over the last couple of days, came to my mind and thought it would make a great pick since we've been going through a heatwave; albeit ten degrees cooler than in the song's title.
I love the blues with the tinge of gospel in this one; it's a very nice one to listen to on a hot summer day.

2540 Jethro Tull - Valley

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/61OgdXPeXnL._SL500_AA280_.jpg
From: Roots to Branches; Year: 1995; Genre: Progressive Rock
For some reason I had this track running through my mind a lot yesterday and thought I would pick it. This is actually one of my least favourite Jethro Tull albums, but it did have a few gems on it; this is one of the smaller ones in my opinion. It's rife with ideologies and tensions from the conflicts in the mid 1990s, but still good even today.

2537 Yes - Siberian Khatru

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51LsXPWX8AL._SL500_AA280_.jpg
From: Close to the Edge; Year: 1972; Genre: Progressive Rock
Last night I was listening to a lot of Yes and thought I would pick one today. I happened to realize that I hadn't chosen this great "epic" song yet, so I'm remedying that today. Funny enough, at just under 9 minutes this song is the shortest of all the songs on the album... all three of them. XD
Anyway, this one contains, in my opinion, some of the best music from the band; a truly epic track indeed!

2534 Hawkwind - Space Dust

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/619pdjcVe3L._SL500_AA280_.jpg
From: Electric Tepee; Year: 1992; Genre: Space Rock
I was thinking about some Hawkwind this morning, their music from Electric Tepee in particular. I've always liked this album in particular; there's something about the music on this one that makes it one of their better records in my opinion. Space Dust is another one of their "ambient" instrumental songs with synth heavy lead; not a cup of tea for everyone, but a fun one to listed to.

2532 The Cars - You Might Think

http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/ciu/52/59/032ce03ae7a079083af3b110.L.jpg
From: Heartbeat City; Year: 1984; Genre: New Wave/Pop/Rock
Last night and into today it has been insanely busy, so I'm having to make one of my more abbreviated picks. Last night I heard this one whilst out on the road and thought it would make a great pick seeing as I apparently haven't picked one from The Cars yet; shame on me. Anyway, this is a great classic that has aged extremely well and doesn't hardly feel dated at all 30 years on.
