6550. Pearl Jam - Why Go

Image
From: Ten ; Year: 1991; Genre: Alternative Rock/Grunge It is kinda odd if you think about it, but albums such as Ten are much harder to find a deep cut than normal records. Looking again at the track listing most of the songs were hits and even more of them got some radio play. I suppose Why Go is about as close as you can get as far as a deep cut on this one....   Hear Why Go on YouTube.         My song pick 1 year ago today: James Brown - Brother Rapp (Part I & Part II)     My song pick 2 years ago today: Blue Öyster Cult - Deadline   My song pick 3 years ago today: Rufus and Chaka Khan - Fool's Paradise   My song pick 4 years ago today: Coleman Hawkins - Night Hawk   My song pick 5 years ago today: Jigsaw - My Summer Song   My song pick 6 years ago today: Bootsy's Rubber Band - Rubber Duckie My song pick 7 years ago today: Lee Dorsey - Ya Ya My song pick 8 years ago today: Curved Air - Back Street Luv My song pick 9...

Image
From: Gigaton ; Year: 2020; Genre: Alternative Rock Checking out Pearl Jam's newest album again today and decided to pick another one off of it. Dance of the Clairvoyants is one of the main singles from it and has a bit more of a modern pop sound to it than I'm used to from the band, but it still has a lot of their established style to be had as well.   Hear Dance of the Clairvoyants on YouTube.        My song pick 1 year ago today: Twelfth Night - East of Eden   My song pick 2 years ago today: Red Hot Chili Peppers - Jungle Man   My song pick 3 years ago today: The Rolling Stones - Lady Jane My song pick 4 years ago today: Blue Öyster Cult - Tenderloin My song pick 5 years ago today: The Beach Boys - I Can Hear Music My song pick 6 years ago today: Earthless - Equus October My song pick 7 years ago today: Rammstein - Weiner Blut My song pick 8 years ago today: Miles Davis - Funky Tonk My song pick 9 years ago today: Pallas - The Last A...

Image
From: Vs. ; Year: 1993; Genre: Alternative Rock/Hard Rock Was in the mood for something from Pearl Jam this morning, no other reason. 2610 Pearl Jam - Sirens

Image
From: Lightning Bolt ; Year: 2013; Genre: Alternative Rock I was in the mood for some Pearl Jam this morning; I felt motivated to pick something from their newer material instead of falling back on standards. 2431 Pearl Jam - Once

Image
From: Ten ; Year: 1991; Genre: Alternative Rock I had some Pearl Jam come on the radio whilst out and about the other day, and they've been on my mind off and on, so I thought I would pick one of their songs. Definitely this is one I remember hearing back in my early teens, but to me it's not that dated and still sounds pretty fresh even though it's 20 years on since Ten was released. Hear Once on YouTube. My song pick a year ago today: Rush - Lock and Key My song pick two years ago today: Porcupine Tree - Time Flies My song pick three years ago today: David Bowie - Life on Mars? 1803 Pearl Jam - Jeremy

Image
From: Ten ; Year: 1991; Genre: Alternative Rock/Grunge It seems as if I've been listening to a lot of '90s alternative rock lately. The other day I heard this song come on the radio and I was actually thinking about picking it anyway. When this song came out I remember hearing it a lot, and obviously it still gets a lot of radio play. While many of their songs are, I guess, what you could call "downers," Jeremy in my opinion is one of their saddest songs they ever recorded. Since the mid '90s it became and remained somewhat of a controversial track due to the extreme subject matter and it being loosely tied to the school shootings that occurred since. From what I understand, Eddie Vedder penned the lyrics based on two instances; one of which he apparently was fairly close to. The main source for the subject matter of the song was a news story he read about a kid committing suicide in front of his class and the second instance was another kid that he was s...

1762 Pearl Jam - Alive

Image
From: Ten ; Year: 1991; Genre: Alternative Rock/Grunge Yesterday this song happened to come on the radio and it got me into the mood to listen to some more of their music; I figured that I'd go ahead and pick it as well. This has to be one of, if not their most recognizable song(s). At least for me it is; I remember hearing it a lot back when they first hit it big. Pearl Jam is another one of those bands that hit it big right off the bat with their first album, Ten , but they also continued to make hit albums long afterwards as well. Their music seemed to transcend the whole "grunge" movement, and now that I think about it, I have never really categorized them with the whole "grunge" thing. In fact, back then I looked at them more as a good alternative rock band; even today I have trouble thinking about them as a "grunge" band. It doesn't really matter whatever "shelf" you want to put them on, their music is all that matters and it...

1620 Pearl Jam - Light Years

Image
1620 Pearl Jam - Light Years From: Binaural , Year: 2000 Genre: Rock/Alternative Rock For a while now I've been going back over the bands that I heard a lot during the late '80's into the '90's. Back then I really liked all of the new styles of music coming out and personally I viewed it as music evolving, which is always a wonderful thing. However, the one problem I had wasn't really with the music or the musicians at all, but rather the 'you're with us or against us' culture that permeated that musical scene. I remember that it seemed like one of the central ideas of the Alternative/Grunge scene was to destroy and sew salt on the ground so to speak of the previous types of music they replaced in the mainstream; I had a real difficult time fitting into that mindset. By no means am I defending the corporate Glam thing that it replaced; I totally agree that it was played out and the time to move on was long overdue. However, for me, whenever I feel li...
