1420 Don McLean - Vincent From: American Pie , Year: 1971 Genre: Folk I've had this rather beautiful track running through my mind most of last night and this morning. This is, of course, a song about the great artist Vincent Van Gogh and his works; Don McLean's lyrics are incredible throughout. Actually, the first version of this song I heard was Julio Iglesias' cover, which can be found here on YouTube ; I liked it a lot. I realized that today is the 50th anniversary of the plane crash that killed Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and "The Big Bopper" J.P. Richardson; a.k.a. "The Day the Music Died." I was thinking about picking one of the many incredible songs from one of the artists. However, I felt that picking the "anthem" that was about the tragedy would be a better choice because it was honouring all of them. Here is the studio version on YouTube.
