6924. Ugly Kid Joe - Sandwich

Image
From: Motel California ; Year: 1996; Genre: Alternative Metal/Rap Rock I do not know why, just wanted to go with something from Ugly Kid Joe today. Also decided on going with one off of this album, which I have not picked one off of yet. Motel California was released just prior to the band breaking up and going their separate ways with other bands and such until reuniting back in 2010. You can really feel that they were getting burned out by this time and probably calling it quits was the best course of action. A great deal of the music on this one was essentially doing the same music and ideas the other popular metal bands were creating. Good thing though is that after getting back together that "spark" and originality they were known for has been ever-present.   Watch the music video on YouTube.          My song pick 1 year ago today: Loverboy - Working for the Weekend     My song pick 2 years ago today: Sly and the Family Stone - I'm An Animal...

4968. Ugly Kid Joe - Madman

Image
From: As Ugly As They Wanna Be ; Year: 1991; Genre: Metal As which has been happening a lot lately I heard a band's music come on my playlist and I thought I'd pick one from them. In this case it was Ugly Kid Joe, and this song was one that was in my mind. Kind of serious subject matter wise given similar occurrences to wot the song is about have been happening in decades since. Take that heaviness aside and listen to the song superficially it can be a fun song to listen to in certain moods especially.   Hear Madman on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Lakeside - Shine On (Lift Your Spirit Higher)   My song pick 2 years ago today: David Bowie - When the Wind Blows My song pick 3 years ago today: Rush - Bravado My song pick 4 years ago today: Paul Simon - Slip Slidin' Away My song pick 5 years ago today: Kiss - Strutter My song pick 6 years ago today: The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Purple Haze My song pick 7 years ago today: Earth, Wind ...

Image
From: America's Least Wanted ; Year: 1992; Genre: Hard Rock I was thinking about Ugly Kid Joe's music the other day, and since I really haven't a song in mind for today, (or at least I can't remember if I had one in mind), I thought I would add another song from this great band today. 2867 Ugly Kid Joe - No One Survives

Image
From: Stairway to Hell ; Year: 2012; Genre: Hard Rock/Alternative Metal When pondering what song to pick on this glorious Tuesday I had some songs from Ugly Kid Joe on my mind. Actually not long ago I learned that they are releasing a new album later this year; so I got some more good, new music to look forward to. Anyway, this is one of their newer songs from their 2012 EP; this one's got a great mix of acoustic and harder electric sounds, plus the heavier lyrics really make it a great track. Image
From: Menace to Sobriety ; Year: 1995; Genre: Alternative Metal Lately I've been listening to Ugly Kid Joe a lot, not only their newer material but going back to their classic material. This one sure brings back some memories; this was a single from their second full album. 2679 Ugly Kid Joe - Another Beer

Image
From: Stairway to Hell ; Year: 2012; Genre: Rock Last night I was binging on a bunch of stuff from Ugly Kid Joe and thought I would pick another of their songs. This is from their newest album that is actually the first studio material since their 1996 Motel California album, so it's quite a treat to hear more new songs from the band. If you're used to their sound this one fits right it; I love it when bands progress but don't lose their sound or souls. Hear Another Beer on YouTube. 1991 Ugly Kid Joe - Everything About You

Image
From: As Ugly As They Wanna Be ; Year: 1991; Genre: Metal This is my 1991st song picked, and, as I've been doing recently, I am choosing songs that were released the year that coincides with the pick number. Dang, I can remember when this song came out; it was quite popular and a bit of a novelty; I cannot believe that it was over 20 years ago. I haven't heard it in a few years, so it's kind of nice to listen to it again. Watch the music video clip on YouTube. My song pick a year ago today: Ludwig Van Beethoven - Op. 31 No. 2 - Piano Sonata No. 17 in D minor " Tempest " My song pick two years ago today: David Bowie - Diamond Dogs My song pick three years ago today: Sky - Toccata My song pick four years ago today: Journey - Who's Crying Now My song pick five years ago today: Billy Joel - Only the Good Die Young

1326 Ugly Kid Joe - Cat's in the Cradle

Image
1326 Ugly Kid Joe - Cat's in the Cradle From: America's Least Wanted, Year: 1992 Day number three of my theme week of picking cover songs. Almost all of the time I have a song running through my mind and as luck would have it Ugly Kid Joe's cover of this rather sentimental Harry Chapin song was running through my mind yesterday; I thought it would make an excellent addition to this theme. While I like both versions I have to say that I like the cover a little better at times. It is probably because Ugly Kid Joe's version came out in my formative teenage years and is tied to that time and thus I'm biased; heck, I fully admit it. I really like the edge they added to the song and how at the same time were able to keep the spirit of the original intact. Hear Ugly Kid Joe's cover on YouTube. Watch the music video on YouTube. Hear Harry Chapin's original on YouTube. My song pick a year ago today: Steeleye Span - Sails of Silver My song pi...

1210 Ugly Kid Joe - Mr. Recordman

Image
1210 Ugly Kid Joe - Mr. Recordman I haven't had this band on my mind in a long, long time; I kind of lost track of them sometime back in the mid 1990s. I decided to look up what happened to them; I found out that they broke up in about '97 after releasing three albums. I knew about the first two albums, but missed out on the third. From what I understand they have supposedly gotten back together just recently, so mayhap we'll have some new material? Anyway, I've always liked how their music was edgy and at the same time light-hearted and just pure fun. This was one of the tracks off their debut album that I liked quite a bit, it is one of their softer pieces having to do with the relationship between band and a record executive. Musically this song is mostly driven by a catchy and well-defined chord progression/melody. Hear Mr. Recordman on YouTube.
