From: Rock In A Hard Place ; Year: 1982; Genre: Hard Rock Am having Aerosmith on the 'ol brain today; thought I would choose one that is a little bit away from their more notable material. Lightning Strikes is the main single from this record, which to my knowledge is the only Aerosmith album to not include storied lead guitarist Joe Perry. Whilst it is an easy song to "consume," it is also a bit unremarkable in that, unless you have a memory tied to it, you might not seek it out and only hear it on shuffle of your favourite song from the band. I immediately put it in my mental queue as a one I should soon be picking. Definitely it brings back memories of around the time the song was released every time I hear it. One of which was back in the early '70s where Aerosmith actually open for the group Three Dog Night; apparently the was prior to the band making it really big. He said the two things in particular that he distinctly remembers was how tight the band was and how ridiculously far back guitarist Joe Perry could bend whilst playing. Since I've begun learning to play the Hawaiian steel guitar my ear has become more tuned to listen for the instrument in music. 1410 Aerosmith - Rag Doll From; Permanent Vacation , Year: 1987 Genre: Rock For about the last six months I've been learning to play the steel guitar; this has been one of the many songs that I've been working on whilst learning the instrument. When most think of the steel guitar and the music associated with it rock just isn't one of the genres that usually comes to mind; you'd probably be thinking of either Hawaiian or older Country and Western music. Anyway, in my opinion this is one of the more unique songs from the Aerosmith catalogue; the beat, the brass section, and of course Joe Perry's steel guitar help to give this track its distinct sound. I had no song in mind again today, so I randomly chose this guitar heavy blues song from Aerosmith. While on the road today this song came on my playlist and I realized that I had not picked an Aerosmith song yet; I thought that this one would be a good pick. What I find interesting about Aerosmith is that they haven't really changed their sound much over the years.
