6062. Led Zeppelin - Carouselambra

Image
From: In Through the Out Door ; Year: 1979; Genre: Hard Rock/Progressive Rock This track really reminds me a lot of Emerson, Lake & Palmer's mid 1970s music with all the heavy use of keyboards played by John Paul Jones as well as Jimmy Page's use of the " Gizmotron ." This entire record has always been one of the band's most experimental, and this song in particular exemplifies that experimentation.   Hear Carouselambra on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Dave Loggins - Please Come to Boston   My song pick 2 years ago today: Bon Jovi - All I Want Is Everything   My song pick 3 years ago today: Megadeth - Death From Within   My song pick 4 years ago today: Steven Wilson - Perfect Life   My song pick 5 years ago today: Blue Öyster Cult - This Ain't the Summer of Love My song pick 6 years ago today: Dick Dale - Shredded Heat My song pick 7 years ago today: The Kinks - The Village Green Preservation Society My song pick 8 year...

3752. Led Zeppelin - Over the Hills and Far Away

Image
From: Houses of the Holy ; Year: 1973; Genre: Hard Rock Normally my favourites from Led Zeppelin are the more mellow and melodic compositions; I guess a goodly portion of this one fits into that category, but I really do like the heavy parts as well. 1839 Led Zeppelin - Misty Mountain Hop

Image
From: Led Zeppelin IV (ZoSo) ; Year: 1971; Genre: Hard Rock For some reason the wife and I were talking about 'Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page this morning and it got me in the mood to pick a Led Zeppelin song for today's pick. I believe that I mentioned in previous picks about how I used to not like hearing their music as much due to them being massively overplayed on the radio. However, during that stretch there were a few of their songs that were exceptions; this was one of them. I don't know what it is about it, but even though this one got just as much overexposure I always seemed to like it. I love John Paul Jones' electric piano, which is one of the main driving forces for this track. Hear Misty Mountain Hop on YouTube. My song pick a year ago today: Émile Waldteufel - Op. 232 - Rococo-Polka My song pick two years ago today: Sky - Sarabande My song pick three years ago today: Lynyrd Skynyrd - On The Hunt My song pick four years ago toda...

1795 Led Zeppelin - The Rain Song

Image
From: Houses of the Holy ; Year: 1973; Genre: Rock On the 4th, whilst I was attending some Independence Day festivities I happened to hear a band providing entertainment play some songs from Led Zeppelin. And yesterday I had a bunch of Led Zeppelin playing while I was getting some work done; I've discovered that much of their music works well for that situation. Anyway, since I've been listening to so much of their music as of late I figured I should add one of their songs. This was one of theirs that I played and replayed more than a few times; it is one of my favourites from the band. It's such a beautiful track in many, many ways. Hear The Rain Song on YouTube. My song pick a year ago today: Béla Fleck & The Flecktones - Big Country My song pick two years ago today: ABBA - When All is Said and Done My song pick three years ago today: Hawkwind - Motorhead My song pick four years ago today: Savatage - Can You Hear Me Now +

1683 Led Zeppelin - Whole Lotta Love

Image
1683 Led Zeppelin - Whole Lotta Love From: Led Zeppelin II , Year: 1969 Genre: Hard Rock/Metal While out running some errands this morning I heard this iconic, riff heavy 'Zeppelin track on the radio. My song pick a year ago today: Queensrÿche - Roads to Madness My song pick two years ago today: Jethro Tull - Roll Yer Own My song pick three years ago today: Naturally 7 - Wall of Sound My song pick four years ago today: Nightwish - Bye Bye Beautiful +

1634 Led Zeppelin - Rock and Roll

Image
1634 Led Zeppelin - Rock and Roll From: Led Zeppelin IV ( ZoSo ), Year: 1971 Genre: Hard Rock/Rock 'N Roll I'm on to day five of my mystery theme week and for today's pick I felt like listening to some Led Zeppelin. Only in recent years have I been able to truly enjoy much of Led Zeppelin's music; in the past I have felt like they were being forced down my throat, and thus it made me grow to dislike the band more than a bit. However, since I've not listened radio that much anymore I've slowly been getting into the band and their music. One of the most interesting aspects that I've found about them is that they were able to dabble in and across a few Rock genres and not pay the price of doing so like many others have. I mean, hell they were one of the bands that wrote Progressive Hard Rock and it was eaten up and adored to this day by the mainstream and pop culture, which doesn't happen that often if at all. Anyway, even when I didn't really care for...

1257 Led Zeppelin - Ten Years Gone

1093 Led Zeppelin - Moby Dick

Image
1093 Led Zeppelin - Moby Dick   It is kind of odd getting a song that is mostly a drum solo stuck in one's mind, but it has happened; I figured I would make it my pick for today. It has been running my mind for the last little bit; it was, of course, a vehicle for an epic John Bonham drum solo. Here is the studio version on YouTube. Here is a live performance on YouTube. My song pick a year ago today: Bob Marley & The Wailers - Three Little Birds My song pick two years ago today: Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR) - Bad Moon Rising +

1046 Led Zeppelin - D'yer Mak'er

Image
1046 Led Zeppelin - D'yer Mak'er Have been in a bit of a 'Zeppelin mood this morning; I decided to put on Houses of the Holy and I figured that I should add something off of the album today. This album is permeated with hits rather than the usual two or three hits you would usually see. I have always loved this track ever since I first heard it; it's one of my favourite tunes from Led Zeppelin. This, of course, is one of their songs in which they strayed a bit from their normal sound. The mix of Reggae and Pop/Rock styles really gives this track a distinctiveness that even to this day has not really been duplicated. Here is the studio version on YouTube. My song pick a year ago today: Arthur Smith - Guitar Boogie My song pick two years ago today: Band of Horses - Ode To LRC +
