6888. Blue Öyster Cult - You're Not the One (I Was Looking For)

Image
From: Mirror ; Year: 1979; Genre: Rock This Saturday just seems like a perfect time for another song from Blue Öyster Cult. You're Not the One (I Was Looking For) is one written by Caryn Bouchard and drummer Albert Bouchard, which also features him on lead vocals.   Hear You're Not the One (I Was Looking For) on YouTube.         My song pick 1 year ago today: Sun Ra - Space is the Place     My song pick 2 years ago today: Taco - Singin' in the Rain     My song pick 3 years ago today: Big Maybelle - Candy   My song pick 4 years ago today: David Bowie - Sweet Thing/Candidate/Sweet Thing (Reprise)   My song pick 5 years ago today: The Pretenders - Don't Get Me Wrong   My song pick 6 years ago today: The Steve Miller Band - Motherless Children   My song pick 7 years ago today: Howlin' Wolf - Forty-Four My song pick 8 years ago today: Arlo - Stab the Unstoppable Hero My song pick 9 years ago today: Wild Turkey - One Sole...

6833. Blue Öyster Cult - We Gotta Get Out of This Place

Image
From: Ghost Stories ; Year: 2024; Genre: Hard Rock Just happened to have BÖC on the brain and was listening to their latest album release, Ghost Stories , which is a collection of remastered and unreleased tracks from the late 1970s to early 1980s. I'm not 100% sure, but close to it, from all I can tell, this cover of the immortal emotional song by The Animals, is a remix/remaster from Blue Öyster Cult's '78 live album Some Enchanted Evening .   Hear We Gotta Get Out of This Place on YouTube.         My song pick 1 year ago today: Tim Hardin - Reason to Believe     My song pick 2 years ago today: Eric Burdon and War - Spirit     My song pick 3 years ago today: Jigsaw - Life Insurance   My song pick 4 years ago today: Tesla - Edison's Medicine   My song pick 5 years ago today: The Grateful Dead - Throwing Stones   My song pick 6 years ago today: Redbone - When You Got Trouble   My song pick 7 years ago today: Blue Öyster ...

6777. Blue Öyster Cult - I Just Like To Be Bad

Image
From: Curse of the Hidden Mirror ; Year: 2001; Genre: Hard Rock Decided on picking a song off of this album, which is by some considered to be one of the band's weakest releases. Truthfully, I have never really listened to it much, so I really have no firm opinion thus far. This track, which has a "cheeky" title, is quite similar to their normal work, so, I would probably have guessed it was BÖC just hearing it randomly.   Hear I Just Like To Be Bad on YouTube.         My song pick 1 year ago today: Jeff Wayne, Richard Burton, Chris Thompson - Thunder Child     My song pick 2 years ago today: Cameo - Funk Funk   My song pick 3 years ago today: Genesis - Tonight, Tonight, Tonight   My song pick 4 years ago today: Hawkwind - Strange Encounters   My song pick 5 years ago today: Ozric Tentacles - Space for the Earth   My song pick 6 years ago today: Stevie Wonder - For Once In My Life   My song pick 7 years ago today: Dayton Sid...

6751. Blue Öyster Cult - She's as Beautiful as a Foot

Image
From: Blue Öyster Cult ; Year: 1972; Genre: Psychedelic Rock Been listening to early BÖC lately; I've always found their self-titled debut album is kind of a "grab bag" of sorts. Sure there are some hits and ones that sound a lot like their emerging sound, then you got some oddities... like this one. Don't get me wrong, it is not a bad song, just different. If one does not pay too much attention to the lyrics, the somewhat "mystical" sounding melody is great. However, there's not very many bands out there that can make a song about a lady being compared to a foot, but Eric Bloom really sell it amazingly. I mean, some people have a thing for feet, so it could be a compliment, but it does go into stranger areas when it tells of a man biting her face and saying she tasted like "a falling arch" and her face changing to a Guernsey cow. It may be weird, but sometimes weird is good, and is a reason I love Blue Öyster Cult and their music so much; neve...

6618. Blue Öyster Cult - The Alchemist

Image
From: The Symbol Remains ; Year: 2020; Genre: Metal Getting close to Halloween, so I thought I should pick something creepy; this one certainly ticks that box. Any time BÖC combines their music and theatrics with some great author's work it always ends seemingly epic. They utilize H. P. Lovecraft's short story of the same name, but instead write it from the antagonist's point of view, which Eric Bloom crushes it with his vocal delivery and is able to bring the malevolent soul Charles le Sorcier to life.   Watch the awesome music video on YouTube.         My song pick 1 year ago today: Tears for Fears - Power     My song pick 2 years ago today: Jimi Hendrix - In From the Storm   My song pick 3 years ago today: Jerry Lee Lewis - Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On   My song pick 4 years ago today: Dazz Band - Magnetized   My song pick 5 years ago today: Queensrÿche - Another Rainy Night (Without You)   My song pick 6 years ago today: Porc...

6546. Blue Öyster Cult - Late Night Street Fight

Image
From: Ghost Stories ; Year: 2024; Genre: Hard Rock Committed one of my own "cardinal sins" with this album I suppose. I assumed it was new original material, until when I recently discovered that it is actually remixed/edited tracks from the late 70's/early '80s songs that were left off of their album from that time.  In my defense, with all of the streaming/listening to songs online, I did not have a chance to read up on it other than see the song list. Just recently saw a critic/overblown "tastemaker" write a snarky remark about them reviving these old songs using artificial intelligence that I dug deeper and actually found out about them. Looking back on the other songs from the record that I have already picked I can see where I did, in fact, catch on to the older sound from one of the band's high points that I like a lot. Anyway, enough about that, to me a good song is a good song, especially when the original writers and musicians are involved; and...

6525. Blue Öyster Cult - Don't Come Running To Me

Image
From: Ghost Stories ; Year: 2024; Genre: Hard Rock I absolutely adore bands like BÖC that aren't afraid to "put it in reverse" so to speak and make something in the style of one of their classic sounds. Don't Come Running To Me would be right at home on their early-mid 1980s records, specifically The Revölution by Night and Club Ninja . I suppose to some it could be a bad thing, but for those like me, hearing them like this just makes me want to throw up "the horns" and totally rock out to Eric Bloom and Buck Dharma's amazing vocals.   Hear Don't Come Running To Me on YouTube.         My song pick 1 year ago today: Black Sabbath - Killing Yourself to Live     My song pick 2 years ago today: Al Di Meola - Atavism of Twilight   My song pick 3 years ago today: Lou Reed - My Red Joystick   My song pick 4 years ago today: Stevie Wonder - Don't You Worry About a Thing   My song pick 5 years ago today: Cream - Take it Back   My song pi...

6440. Blue Öyster Cult - Before the Kiss, A Redcap

6381. Blue Öyster Cult - Moon Crazy

Image
From: Mirrors ; Year: 1979; Genre: Rock/Rock 'n Roll I do not believe that I've found a single one of BÖC's songs unlistenable, at least to myself that is. One of the main great aspects of this band is the fact that they made full albums and did not focus on making hit singles; those came anyway as a matter of how good the song is. However, when listening to one of their records, each song moves flawlessly from one track to the next, which makes you just keep it playing, hits and other tracks included. Moon Crazy fits right smack in the middle and comes after wot was the first single and keeps the groove going without letting the person playing it down from the high of the previous song.   Hear Moon Crazy on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Chad Allan & The Expressions (The Guess Who) - Theme from a Music Box   My song pick 2 years ago today: Steely Day - Night By Night   My song pick 3 years ago today: Coven - One Tin Soldier   My...

6339. Blue Öyster Cult - Cherry

Image
From: Ghost Stories ; Year: 2024; Genre: Rock/Rock 'n Roll As for these most recent releases from some of my top favourite artists, it's not that I just automatically "love" their material regardless. It is more along the lines of music that when it starts playing I don't seek to end the cacophony and non-concurrence as I do with much of wot has been released in recent years. Not that this music is bad or even mediocre, it's just not their best work, and not their worst either if you follow my logic here. Personally through, I absolutely love hearing new material from them and appreciate that they are still writing artistically.   Hear Cherry on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Earth, Wind & Fire - Rock That!   My song pick 2 years ago today: UB40 - Red Red Wine   My song pick 3 years ago today: The Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band - Do Your Thing   My song pick 4 years ago today: Steve Miller Band - Fandango   My song pick 5 yea...

6235. Blue Öyster Cult - Power Underneath Despair

Image
From: Heaven Forbid ; Year: 1998; Genre: Hard Rock Been busy and stressful as of late, but I always have bands such as BÖC to get me through. I really like Eric Bloom's vocals on this one; gives it that "edge" that makes it a great track.    Hear Power Underneath Despair on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Dolly Parton - Mule Skinner Blues (Blue Yodel No. 8)   My song pick 2 years ago today: The Zombies - Time Of The Season   My song pick 3 years ago today: Sweat Band - Freak to Freak   My song pick 4 years ago today: Van der Graaf Generator - Orthenthian St (Parts I & II)   My song pick 5 years ago today: Steve Vai - The Crying Machine   My song pick 6 years ago today: Rush - Territories My song pick 7 years ago today: Charley Pride - Kiss an Angel Good Mornin' My song pick 8 years ago today: Matthews' Southern Comfort - Woodstock My song pick 9 years ago today: King Crimson - Lament My song pick 10 years ag...

6208. Blue Öyster Cult - So Supernatural

Image
From: Ghost Stories ; Year: 2024; Genre: Hard Rock Here is one off of BÖC's new record, Ghost Stories ; it is always great to have some new excellent music, especially from this legendary act. I love how they still have "that sound" that we all love, but have continued to evolve their music as well. The vocals in particular are top-notch; both Bloom and "Buck Dharma" have kept their pipes in great working order.   Hear So Supernatural on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: The Zombies - Tell Her No   My song pick 2 years ago today: Van McCoy & the Soul City Symphony - The Hustle   My song pick 3 years ago today: The Kinks - A Long Way From Home   My song pick 4 years ago today: Peter Gabriel - Solsbury Hill   My song pick 5 years ago today: Megadeth - Peace Sells My song pick 6 years ago today: Dr. Hook - Sharing the Night Together My song pick 7 years ago today: Hawkwind - Kerb Crawler My song pick 8 years ago today: Funkad...

6074. Blue Öyster Cult - Live For Me

Image
From: Heaven Forbid ; Year: 1998; Genre: Hard Rock I have always loved Heaven Forbid ever since I heard the singles come on the radio and I immediately pushed record on my cassette tape. Once I was able to hear the rest of it I was hooked; great unappreciated album from an important, storied band. Anyway, this track is one of those that would fit right in with the biggest hits of the '70s/'80s is arrangement, writing, and production. I absolutely love the musical atmosphere they inject into a tragic tale; Buck Dharma really killed it on this one vocally.   Hear Live For Me on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: 10,000 Maniacs - Trouble Me   My song pick 2 years ago today: Roxette - It Must Have Been Love   My song pick 3 years ago today: Dream Theater - The Best of Times   My song pick 4 years ago today: Seals & Crofts - We May Never Pass This Way (Again)   My song pick 5 years ago today: Pink Floyd - Arnold Layne My song pick 6...

5911. Blue Öyster Cult - Deadline

Image
From: Cultösaurus Erectus ; Year: 1980; Genre: Hard Rock Was enjoying much of the music from this record lately and decided on picking one from it. I really like the chorus in how they bring it down and give it a lighter, almost ethereal or mystical feeling that contrasts with the riff-based verses and interludes. Hear Deadline on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Rufus and Chaka Khan - Fool's Paradise   My song pick 2 years ago today: Coleman Hawkins - Night Hawk   My song pick 3 years ago today: Jigsaw - My Summer Song   My song pick 4 years ago today: Bootsy's Rubber Band - Rubber Duckie My song pick 5 years ago today: Lee Dorsey - Ya Ya My song pick 6 years ago today: Curved Air - Back Street Luv My song pick 7 years ago today: Fairport Convention - Fotheringay My song pick 8 years ago today: Steeleye Span - Van Diemen's Land My song pick 9 years ago today: Jethro Tull - Kelpie My song pick 10 years ago today: Wild Turkey - Ba...

5865. Blue Öyster Cult - See You In Black

Image
From: Heaven Forbid ; Year: 1998; Genre: Heavy Metal Had another album on my mind today, which is course is this one from BÖC. I clearly remember hearing it a lot over the radio in the summer of '98; it still sound very fresh today. This is the opening track on the record that welcomes you with some balls-to-the-wall fast metal featuring Eric Bloom's roaring vocals; I absolutely love the chord progression in the chorus, which is sure to induce some headbanging and rocking out.   Hear See You In Black on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Larry Graham & Graham Central Station - Your Love   My song pick 2 years ago today: Gentle Giant - The Power and the Glory   My song pick 3 years ago today: Ennio Morricone - The Ecstasy of Gold   My song pick 4 years ago today: Rush - Clockwork Angels My song pick 5 years ago today: The Kinks - Living on a Thin Line My song pick 6 years ago today: Jethro Tull - Slow Marching Band My song pick 7 ...

5860. Blue Öyster Cult - Tainted Blood

Image
From: The Symbol Remains ; Year: 2020; Genre: Hard Rock With this one featuring Ritchie Castellano singing lead it does give the band a more distinct sound that diverges a bit from the established BÖC sound and, in my opinion breathes in some freshness.    Hear Tainted Blood on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Bob Welch - Church   My song pick 2 years ago today: Hawkwind - Starshine   My song pick 3 years ago today: Neil Young & Crazy Horse - Milky Way   My song pick 4 years ago today: Smokey Robinson and The Miracles - Tracks Of My Tears My song pick 5 years ago today: Blancmange - Living on the Ceiling My song pick 6 years ago today: Dick Dale and his Del Tones - The Wedge My song pick 7 years ago today: Gin Blossoms - Found Out About You My song pick 8 years ago today: Shelia Skipworth - Look What You Done to Me My song pick 9 years ago today: Jefferson Airplane - White Rabbit My song pick 10 years ago today: Ali...

5775. Blue Öyster Cult - Teen Archer

Image
From: Tyranny and Mutation ; Year: 1973; Genre: Hard Rock/Psychedelic Rock You gotta love the raw hard rock/proto-metal sound of the earlier days of BÖC; this is one that in my opinion exemplifies such. Kind of surprised I had not chosen this track yet; whilst being rather repetitive lyrically, it makes up for any shortcomings without a doubt musically.   Hear Teen Archer on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Triumph - Rock & Roll Machine   My song pick 2 years ago today: Bootsy's Rubber Band - Chug-A-Lug (The Bun Patrol)   My song pick 3 years ago today: Mastodon - Asleep in the Deep   My song pick 4 years ago today: Uriah Heep - Fallen Angel My song pick 5 years ago today: Depeche Mode - Strangelove My song pick 6 years ago today: Billy Joel - Uptown Girl My song pick 7 years ago today: Aerosmith - What it Takes My song pick 8 years ago today: Queen - Good Old-Fashioned Lover Boy My song pick 9 years ago today: Rush - The ...

5507. Blue Öyster Cult - The Great Sun Jester

Image
From: Mirrors ; Year: 1979; Genre: Hard Rock Apparently this track is among the first for Blue Öyster Cult where they collaborated with Science Fiction writer Michael Moorcock , which is something the band did many more times in the future. The Great Sun Jester is based on Moorcock's novel The Fireclown and is among the standouts on Mirrors .   Hear The Great Sun Jester on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: King Crimson - Lady of the Dancing Water   My song pick 2 years ago today: Klaatu - Dog Star   My song pick 3 years ago today: Steely Dan - Only a Fool Would Say That My song pick 4 years ago today: Primus - The Storm My song pick 5 years ago today: Return to Forever - Earth Juice My song pick 6 years ago today: Psychotic Waltz - Strange My song pick 7 years ago today: Queen - Great King Rat My song pick 8 years ago today: Karussell - Wintermärchen My song pick 9 years ago today: Ian Anderson - Old School Song My song pick 10...
