From: Return of the Dream Canteen ; Year: 2022; Genre: Funk Rock/Alternative Rock/Hard Rock Dang, Friday seemingly came back around once more; giving me metaphoric whiplash. One of the aspects of RHCP is the fact that, to all intense and purpose, I can just look them up and they always have new material available to listen to. Their most recent studio album has been one I've really enjoyed as of late, which this track is the lead single. What better way to do a funky rap then use the words from Theodore Seuss Geisel, who is better known as Dr. Seuss and one of his renowned works: Yertle The Turtle ? Oi, that also means that at least for a few minutes in the last 2000 or so days I've been on a computer with internet access. Okay then, on to my 1999th pick, and, as I've been doing lately, I am picking songs that were released the year that coincides with my song pick number, i.e. since this is my 1999th pick I am picking one from the year 1999. Back then I remember hanging out a lot at my sister's house; we would watch music videos on VH1 until the wee hours of the morning. This is one of my favourite songs off of RHCP's most recent release: I'm With You ; it's one of the more dynamic tracks on the album. Apparently the band got some of their influence for this track from an Ethiopian band called Africa Express; from what I understand they hung out and jammed quite a bit. I love how they employed odd time signatures in this song and yet to the untrained ear you really don't notice it; that, in my opinion, is the mark of an excellent band when they are able to do that. This is probably my favourite song off of the album and the main reason I picked up Californication .
