2865 Soundgarden - Storm

Image
From: Echo of Miles: Scattered Tracks Across the Path ; Year: 2014; Genre: Alternative Metal Just felt like listening to some Soundgarden today from their newest compilation album that has a few new songs on it so to speak. Actually this track, Storm, is about 30 years old in reality, but finally got properly recorded and released. Definitely this is classic sounding Soundgarden; while not their best, it's still a great piece of music. Hear Storm on YouTube. 2864 The Steve Miller Band - Rock it

Image
From: Steve Miller Band Boxed Set ; Year: 1994; Genre: Rock/Blues Rock I had a tiring drive home last night and a busy morning, but I still took some time out to get today's pick in. I remember hearing this one on the radio quite a bit about 15 to 20 years ago, (now I'm feeling old), despite the fact that it apparently was only released on the band's Greatest Hits Box Set. This is another one that's not a huge favourite of mine from the band, it's still one I like quite a bit. It has that nice bluesy guitar rock that would be perfect for one of those roadhouses out on a Saturday Night along a desert highway. Hear Rock It on YouTube. 2861 Outlaws - Green Grass & High Tides

Image
From: Outlaws ; Year: 1975; Genre: Southern Rock/Hard Rock Yesterday when I was out this one came on the radio; I thought for sure that I had already chosen it on my blog, but apparently I hadn't, so I'm rectifying it today. This is another great Southern Rock classic that is just under 10 minutes in length and features not one, but two epic guitar solos. Hear Green Grass & High Tides on YouTube. Image
From: Sunset on the Golden Age ; Year: 2014; Genre: Power Metal/Celtic Folk Metal/Pirate Metal I had some Alestorm on my mind this morning; as I always do, I took it as that I needed to pick one of their songs. 2859 Grateful Dead - Dire Wolf

Image
From: Reckoning ; Year: 1981; Genre: Rock/Country/Folk/Psychedelic Rock I was getting ready to post this morning and realized that it was Memorial Day; whoops almost broke my streak of picking something from The Dead today. This is one I had hear the first time not that long ago and kind of fell in love with the song; more country/folk than straight up rock, but it oozes with that goodness than comes from The Dead. Hear Dire Wolf on YouTube. Image
From: Labour of Love II ; Year: 1989; Genre: Reggae Yesterday I had this cover and probably one of the most recognizable version of the classic by Lord Creator on my mind, so I thought I'd pick it. 2857 Wings - Live and Let Die

Image
From: Live and Let Die (soundtrack) ; Year: 1973; Genre: Symphonic Rock Last night while I was out and about another one of Wings' songs came on; it felt like a good one to pick, especially since I was otherwise drawing a blank. Of course this is the iconic song which is not only the theme song to the James Bond motion picture of the same name, but has really become a hit in and of itself. Hear Live and Let Die on YouTube. 2856 Kleeer - You Got Me Rockin'

Image
From: Seeekret ; Year: 1985; Genre: Funk/Disco/Electronic It's another Funky Friday and I wanted to choose something from a band I hadn't picked from before. This is a very danceable with a great groove to it and also, it has more of an electronic sound to it; very much like its counterparts from the 1980s. Hear You Got Me Rockin' on YouTube. 2855 The Kinks - Moving Pictures

Image
From: Low Budget ; Year: 1979; Genre: Rock/Disco Busy day today and I really haven't a song in mind, but I was thinking about The Kinks and their music the other day and figured I would go ahead and pick one. This is song that closes out their Low Budget album is kind of a part of the late 70s zeitgeists in that it's a rock track with some disco influence; but still pretty good though and a fun track to listen to. Hear Moving Pictures on YouTube. My song pick a year ago today: Stahlhammer - Fiend Hört Mit My song pick two years ago today: The Doors - Soul Kitchen My song pick three years ago today: Megaherz - Hurra – Wir Leben Noch My song pick four years ago today: Skid Row - Youth Gone Wild My song pick five years ago today: The Jimmy Castor Bunch - The Bertha Butt Boogie My song pick six years ago today: Steely Dan - Hey Nineteen My song pick seven years ago today: Rahsaan Roland Kirk - Serenade To A Cuckoo

2854 The Who - Another Tricky Day

Image
From: Face Dances ; Year: 1981; Genre: Hard Rock Yeah, I'm picking two songs from The Who in a row, so sue me; I love this band and still felt like picking another one of their songs. Face Dances is of course their first album sans legendary drummer Keith Moon after his tragic death; Kenny Jones from The (Small) Faces took over as the heartbeat of the band. This song is one of their more popular tracks from the band's later period and was one of the lead singles off the album. It has a sound that is reminiscent of their earlier sound and their sound of the when it was recorded. Hear Another Tricky Day on YouTube. My song pick a year ago today: Rush - Beneath, Between & Behind My song pick two years ago today: Lynyrd Skynyrd - Last of a Dyin' Breed My song pick three years ago today: Rush - Subdivisions My song pick four years ago today: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart - K. 525, Serenade No. 13 for Strings in G major " Eine Kleine Nachtmusik " My

2853 The Who - 905

Image
From: Who Are You ; Year: 1978; Genre: Hard Rock After listening to some stuff The Who last night I really got in the mood to listen a bunch more today, and of course, I decided that I would pick one of their songs too. 905 is one from the pen of John Entwistle and was originally supposed to be part of a rock opera based in a future setting he was composing, but sadly it apparently never came to fruition. This one is a very existential song sung from the point of view of a clone being forced, (albeit of his own will), to live a life predetermined in his make up. The music is a great mix of electronic and conventional music; it's done and arranged very well. John Entwistle's vocals and playing are really good as well; it's amazing that this wasn't promoted as a single, however I'm not a good judge of popular mainstream music. To me music should do more for someone than make them want to get drunk or shake their keister. :P Hear 905 on YouTube. My song pi

2852 Bad Company - No Smoke Without a Fire

Image
From: Dangerous Age ; Year: 1988; Genre: Hard Rock Yesterday whilst working on my truck I had a bunch of Bad Company's music on my mind and it got me thinking about picking one of their songs. This one, of course, comes from their second album with Brian Howe on vocals. I have to say, I actually like this period of the band about as much as any other; just really good music in my opinion and, as I already stated, the vocals are really great. Anyway, this is one of their bigger ones from the late 80's that was a pretty big hit and kind of their "comeback" of sorts. Hear No Smoke Without a Fire on YouTube. My song pick a year ago today: Freddy Taylor and His Swing Men from Harlem - Viper's Dream My song pick two years ago today: Mr. Big - Tempermental My song pick three years ago today: Heart - Crazy on You My song pick four years ago today: Billy Thorpe - East of Eden's Gate My song pick five years ago today: The Delegates - Convention

2851 Steve Vai - Rescue Me or Bury Me

Image
From: Sex & Religion ; Year: 1993; Genre: Rock/Hard Rock I didn't really have a song in mind for today, so I just made a random selection and Steve Vai came up, and it seemed like a good fit. Anyway, this is a rather pretty one with Mr. Vai working his guitar over skillfully and with purpose. Hear Rescue Me or Bury Me on YouTube. 2850 B. B. King - Someday, Somewhere

Image
From: Blues D'Azur ; Year: 2014 (1952); Genre: Blues As probably most everybody knows, the other day Legend and "King of the Blues" B.B. King passed away; a writeup can be read here on The BBC . After seeing the headline yesterday I thought it would only be fitting to pick one of his songs. This is one from my favourite, earlier era, of his music; I love the pureness and rawness heard on this one in particular. Hear Someday, Somewhere on YouTube. 2849 Pure Essence - Wake Up, Pts. 1&2

Image
From: Wake Up Pts. 1&2 ; Year: 1976; Genre: Funk/Soul I'm keeping my streak of Funky Fridays going with another great, somewhat of a deeper cut of funk. This one's got a nice funky groove along with all a great bass line; a very fun track for the end of this workweek. Hear Wake Up, Pts. 1&2 on YouTube. 2848 Bachman & Turner - Neutral Zone

Image
From: Bachman & Turner ; Year: 2010; Genre: Hard Rock I was in the mood to listen to something from BTO this morning and I ended up going for something from Randy Bachman and C.F. Turner's 2010 album of their namesake. It still amazes me how all of the songs on this album sound like they belong right along side their hits from the mid '70s Not Fragile/Four Wheel Drive era; mostly because of C.F. Turner's powerful vocals, which have not faded one bit. Hear Neutral Zone on YouTube. My song pick a year ago today: Xerath - The Glorious Death My song pick two years ago today: John Fogerty - Premonition My song pick three years ago today: The Steve Miller Band - The Joker My song pick four years ago today: Elvenking - The Wanderer My song pick five years ago today: Gerry Rafferty - Baker Street My song pick six years ago today: Scorpions - Rhythm of Love My song pick seven years ago today: Supertramp - Bloody Well Right

2847 Hawkwind - Choose Your Masques

Image
From: Choose Your Masques ; Year: 1982; Genre: Progressive Rock/Space Rock I felt like something from Hawkwind today for some reason; especially something from this, early 1980s era. This is a fun and an actually danceable song from this extreme progressive band, just don't mind the wonderful sci-fi lyrics :P. Hear Choose Your Masques on YouTube. My song pick a year ago today: Rush - Force Ten My song pick two years ago today: Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR) - Someday Never Comes My song pick three years ago today: Pink Floyd - Time My song pick four years ago today: Rammstein - Amerika My song pick five years ago today: Cream - White Room My song pick six years ago today: Steely Dan - Deacon Blues My song pick seven years ago today: The Guess Who - Laughing

2846 Michael Martin Murphey - Secret Mountain Hideout

Image
From: Blue Sky-Night Thunder ; Year: 1975; Genre: Folk Rock/Rock/Country I had this track stuck in my mind this morning and as always I took it as I needed to pick it today. This is one I've always liked quite a bit; there's a definite influence of Elton John throughout this one and not just because of the honkytonk piano, it's more to do with the arrangements. But anyway, bottom line: it's a very fun song to sit back and listen to. Hear Secret Mountain Hideout on YouTube. My song pick a year ago today: Rhapsody of Fire - The Mighty Ride of the Firelord My song pick two years ago today: Argent - Liar My song pick three years ago today: Hawkwind - Time We Left This World Today My song pick four years ago today: Journey - Separate Ways (Worlds Apart) My song pick five years ago today: The Allman Brothers Band - Midnight Rider My song pick six years ago today: Ian Anderson - Made In England My song pick seven years ago today: Mel McDaniel -

2845 The Winery Dogs - Elevate

Image
From: The Winery Dogs ; Year: 2013; Genre: Hard Rock/Alternative Rock I finally got around to checking out the first, (and so far the only), album from the power trio supergroup made up of members from Mr. Big, Dream Theater, and Poison amongst their extensive resumés. This one is very riff driven with the great technical instrumentality that the members are known for. Along with the majority of the other tracks on this album it also reminds me a lot of Soundgarden, mostly because of Ritchie Kotzen's singing and the fore-mentioned riffing hard rock. Hear Elevate on YouTube. My song pick a year ago today: Molly Hatchet - Bloody Reunion My song pick two years ago today: Alice In Chains - Down in a Hole My song pick three years ago today: Tower of Power - What is Hip? 2844 Carmen - Shady Lady

Image
From: The Gypsies ; Year:1975; Genre: Progressive Rock/Flamenco Rock Was in the mood from something from the band Carmen this morning; I've always been fond of this album, which is the band's "swansong." As with a lot of their material on the record, this one has a great mix of the flamenco inspired progressive rock with a harder edge than their other albums; both power and beauty, as it should be. Hear Shady Lady on YouTube. Image
From: Red ; Year: 1974; Genre: Progressive Rock/Hard Rock I was in the mood for something from King Crimson's Red album, which is one of my favourite, if not my absolute favourite from the band.
