2662 Alestorm - 1741 (The Battle of Cartagena)

Image
From: Sunset on the Golden Age ; Year: 2014; Genre: Power Metal/Celtic Folk Metal This is one from the new album that was recently released from the epic pirate metal band Alestorm. If you heard the band before you more or less know what to expect; although it is interesting to hear Christopher Bowes go into low "gut" vocals like what you would normally hear in death metal in the mid eight section. I love how they mix the account of an actual historic battle in this song. Not bad in the least and it's nice to see that they're staying on course with the sound I've come to know and love. 1909 Alestorm - Barrett's Privateers

Image
From: Back Through Time ; Year: 2011; Genre: Celtic Folk Metal/Pirate Metal Yesterday I had this song my mind; as usual I took as a sign I should pick it. I remember when I first looked at the track list I was certainly amused when I saw that Alestorm had covered this classic Stan Rogers a cappella folk ditty and turned it into a full-blown heavy metal song. I've always liked the original; I can't remember how many times I've heard it, but it's been a bunch. However, to say the least I like Alestorm's cover just a much, probably more now that I think about it. They simply did an awesome job covering it in my opinion, of course the subject matter fit Alestorm's pirate themed music style perfectly, so it's no surprise at all. This track also features a pretty good guitar solo by guest guitarist Heri Joensen from the band Tyr. Hear Alestorm's version of Barrett's Privateers on YouTube. Hear the original Stan Rogers version on YouTube. M...

1792 Alestorm - Shipwrecked

Image
From: Back Through Time ; Year: 2011; Folk Metal/Power Metal/Pirate Metal Today is another one of those days where I wanted to pick a certain song and was thwarted at every angle, so here's one that I've been meaning to pick for a while now instead. After seeing the music video and hearing it, it was more than enough reason for me to pick up the album and I was not disappointed at all. If you've heard the band before you should know what to expect from this track: good strong power metal with pirate subject matter throughout and a very catchy chorus that is easy and fun to sing along with. Hear Shipwrecked on YouTube. Watch the music video on YouTube. My song pick a year ago today: Steeleye Span - Dark-Eyed Sailor My song pick two years ago today: The Police - The King of Pain My song pick three years ago today: Chet Atkins - Yakety Axe My song pick four years ago today: Benjamin Britten - War Requiem +

1741 Alestorm - I Am a Cider Drinker

Image
From: Back Through Time ; Year: 2011; Genre: Celtic Folk Metal/Pirate Metal Yesterday evening our neighbours decided that they were wanting serenade me with their completely boring selection of music; this after doing it for 9 hours straight the day prior. Well, I decided that I would introduce them to Alestorm instead by playing the Back Through Time album just loud enough so I didn't have to hear it anymore. While they aren't horrid neighbours and I bare no malice towards them, they are rife with hypocrisy; they seem to get annoyed when they hear anyone else's music but are perfectly fine with afflicting others with theirs. Oh well, just a couple of months more and we'll be moved away and they will become someone else's problem. Maybe someone just like them will move in when we're gone; that would be the best kind of justice out there. Until then they will have learn to love Alestorm. Anyway, this is one of the many songs I like off of the Back Through...

1718 Alestorm - Pirate Song

Image
From: Black Sails at Midnight ; Year: 2009; Genre: Celtic Folk Metal/Pirate Metal After a rather busy day I had Alestorm playing all of way on my journey home; when this song in particular came on it was fun to sit back and sing along with a pirate accent. You gotta love the lyrics: "And If I could go back and make my amends; I'd make all those mistakes again; I'd kill every last one of those bastards, my friend." Hear Pirate Song on YouTube.
