From: Under the Blade ; Year: 1982; Genre: Metal/Hard Rock Song #2 of my Satanic Panic theme. Another band that was quite ubiquitous during that time, vilified by the duplicitous actors was Twisted Sister; their frontman Dee Snyder in particular. Of course their mega hit " We're Not Going to Take It " got a lot of attention by those in power, but I have always found Mr. Snyder's comment about this song to be one of the more distinguished moments in the senate hearing for the PMRC. Tipper Gore, who was one of the founding members of the PMRC, stated that Under the Blade was about sadomasochism, bondage, and rape. This ascertain, of course, was once again either complete ignorance, a bald-faced lie or perhaps some from column A and some from column B.... Anyway, Dee Snyder actually told the story of the song's inception and subject matter, which had nothing at all to do with their incorrect accusations. From: Hear! ; Year: 1992; Genre: Glam Metal Often feel bad for bands like Trixer who were late to the party so to speak. Basically a glam metal/hard rock act that broke right when that genre of music was on the way out. While many from the early 1990s and beyond revile and act like the wot they're hearing '80s glam metal is truly toxic; it is not that bad. And whilst it is not my favourite music, it is fun sometimes to put it one and reminisce a bit. I definitely remember Trixer from back in the day, but was never fully into them and did not hate them either. Normally do not listen to actual over-the-air broadcasts anymore, but was in my older car with a stereo from the 1990s installed, so it was wot I had. From: Back for the Attack ; Year: 1987; Genre: Hard Rock/Glam Metal Here is one that I have not heard in a while; it brings back some memories. It was a hit single for the band, but it is most likely best known as the title/lead soundtrack song for the third A Nightmare on Elm Street film released at about the same time as this album from the band. I really like that the band itself wrote and performed the song, which has a sound very much a product of the time it was made, but in the best possible way. From: After the Rain ; Year: 1990; Genre: Hard Rock/Glam Rock Speaking of Ricky Nelson, here's the biggest hit by his twin sons: Mathew and Gunnar and their band of their family namesake. Kind of an interesting factoid: they are apparently the only family that had number 1 hit songs over three consecutive generations. Starting with their grandparents Ozzie and Harriet Nelson, their father, Ricky Nelson, and themselves; certainly a gifted family, no doubt. Love and Affection is one I remember hearing a lot back then, and even in more recent years, although more infrequent. From: The Final Countdown ; Year: 1986; Genre: Power Metal/Hard Rock Noticed that I had yet to pick this one from Europe, which is their most famous song on this side of the Atlantic; or perhaps just the U.S. at least. Anyway, even some 35+ years on it is an iconic anthem of sorts, which was, from what I understand, written around a "fanfare" on the synthesizer that was meant to introduce the band when coming on stage, but was wisely used instead for a basis for the track. From: 7800° Fahrenheit ; Year: 1985; Genre: Hard Rock Depending on my mood this is probably my favourite album from Bon Jovi, and this is one of my favourite tracks off of it. Actually, I had not listened to this record in quite a while until last night and when Hardest Part is the Night came on I knew I had today's pick. I really like the mood throughout the piece, especially the transition to the chorus and the chorus itself. This is, of course, the title track from this early '90s album. From: The Great Radio Controversy ; Year: 1989; Genre: Hard Rock/Glam Metal Well, it is Valentine's Day once again; even though I recently chose a song from Tesla and this album in particular I knew this was the perfect song for today. Of all the songs out there with the title Love Song , this one is one that is always the one that first comes to mind for me. Probably one of the band's most recognizable and most popular tracks to most people of my generation, and our kids I guess, who we expose the songs of our youth to in their formative years.  Anyway, while playing the bass guitar covering this one is for me kind of repetitive making the slightest mistake on the bass line is extremely noticeable from the way the song is written, so it does require a lot of concentration.
