From: Goats Head Soup ; Year: 1973; Genre: Rock Number six in my " Winter Theme Week ;" couldn't let this theme go without picking this aptly titled tune from the 'Stones. I've noted that there seems to be a lonely and/or wistful tone to the vast majority of songs concerning the Winter season; thematically and music wise this song is not really different, but the music and vocals are excellent as ever. From: The Whisper ; Year: 1983; Genre: Rock/Pop Pick number 5 of my Winter Theme Week , and no, this is not the same song as yesterday, only the title is the same, different song. Anyway, this was a seasonal piece and a fairly good sized hit for Mr. Essex. Hear A Winter's Tale on YouTube. From: Made in Heaven ; Year: 1995; Genre: Rock For my fourth pick on this " Winter Theme Week " I'm going with this beautiful number from Freddy Mercury and the guys from Queen. It was, of course, released posthumously to Freddy passing and recorded during the last months of his life. A Winter's Tale has been categorized as a Christmas song by some, but works year around as well in my opinion. Hear A Winter's Tale on YouTube. From: Book of Dreams ; Year: 1977; Genre: Rock Continuing with my 3rd pick in my "Winter" theme week . I don't think I could complete this theme without this song; just lucky I had not chosen it yet I guess. Anyway, this is a beautiful song that plays on a sparsely arranged, wide-open and lonely sound, which really paints a wonderful soundscape you can bring into reality in your mind's eye. From: Wintersmith ; Year: 2013; Genre: Progressive Metal/Folk Metal Funny enough, today a song from this album popped on my playlist randomly; I knew I had my pick for today considering this is day 2 of my " Winter Theme Week ." As with the rest of the album, this, the title track, is based off of the Discworld series, created by Terry Pratchett , mostly the book of the song and album's namesake . Wintersmith is one of the heavier songs on the album and is quite unique in that heavy sound compared to what one normally expects from Steeleye Span; but an incredible song nevertheless. From: Dead Winter Dead ; Year: 1995; Genre: Progressive Metal Haven't done a proper theme week for some time now and was thinking about songs that have to do with the season, so I'm doing a "Winter" theme week. Starting it off with the title track off of Savatage's epic 1995 Dead Winter Dead album. I love this entire record all the way through; it's a masterpiece of the band.
