From: George Thorogood and the Destroyers ; Year: 1977; Genre: Blues Rock Wot the heck, I'm picking the George Thorogood cover after picking the John Lee Hooker version yesterday; seems like a great idea! Yeah. Anyway, as I wrote in my last post, this is a cover of two songs from the legend of a Bluesman: House Rent Boogie and One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer . He used the first song to tell the tale as to why the guy is in the bar drowning his blues in the iconic second piece. From: Haircut ; Year: 1993; Genre: Blues Rock Kind of an existential observation: back when I listened to regular over-the-air radio there were bands/artists that got overplayed and seemingly shoved down my throat. One of them was George Thorogood and the Destroyers, I never hated them or their music, just got tired of hearing them at least once an hour on the local stations. Fast-forward some 20 some odd years since I moved to just listening to my own mixes and discovering many newer acts, I have realized that some of those bands I have started to miss hearing. Lonesome George and his Delaware Destroyers is one that I seem to want to hear more of. I guess why they got played so much is because they are such an accessible band. I mean, they really never changed their sound or were anywhere near the cutting edge musically, but sticking to the tried and true basis of danceable blues based rock 'n roll with the swagger of the local bar band that most everyone likes is an simple recipe...

From Maverick ; Year: 1985; Genre: Blues Rock Back over 20 some odd years ago when I listened to the radio, (with actual live disc jockeys), quite a bit I heard George Thorogood and his band a great deal; he got a lot of play in the rotation. While his music was never quite to my personal liking, and thus do not hear it as much as of late; mostly due to how streaming works and the fact that I never collected his music. Every now and then I happen to hear one of his tracks in the background at the random store or on some show or commercial and it brings back some memories. Now, with that all being said, I have never hated his music, and he's got quite a loyal fan base who really digs that alcohol-swilling style of blues, which lends itself very well to a partying atmosphere, which is most likely why his music goes over so well.
