6481. Cybotron - Eureka

Image
From: Implosion ; Year: 1980; Genre: Electronic Rock/Electronica/Progressive Rock Again, with no reason apparent to myself I am picking a piece from another band that has been on my mind. This time it is from the electronic progressive rock band from Downunda: Cybotron. This is the lead-in track off of their final studio album, at least as far as I'm aware. Eureka is just a fun one to sit back and let the sounds swirl all around you.   Hear Eureka on YouTube.         My song pick 1 year ago today: Uriah Heep - Rocks in the Road     My song pick 2 years ago today: The Blowflys - Funky In The Hole   My song pick 3 years ago today: Kansas - Mysteries and Mayhem   My song pick 4 years ago today: Jethro Tull - Out of the Noise   My song pick 5 years ago today: Ultravox - Man of Two Worlds   My song pick 6 years ago today: Steppenwolf - Rock Me My song pick 7 years ago today: ABBA - One of Us My song pick 8 years ago today: Rick Jam...

5969. Cybotron - Ride To Infinity

Image
From: Ride To Infinity (single) ; Year: 1979; Genre: Electronica/Progressive Rock I'm not exactly sure why I have some sort of predilection to discover bands that I really like only to find out that they only released a scant few records and existed for quite a finite time: Cybotron exemplifies this. From what I understand, Ride To Infinity was their final single, released in 1980 and, from wot I can discern, never appeared on a studio album. Like much of their material it is definitely a great track to put on whilst working or on the road, although, that being said, this one in particular does not happily sit in the background as "wallpaper music;" it demands attention a lot of the time.   Hear Ride To Infinity on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: The Edgar Winter Group - Animal   My song pick 2 years ago today: The Eagles - The Disco Strangler   My song pick 3 years ago today: Ian Anderson - Meliora Sequamur   My song pick 4 years ago ...

5209. Cybotron - Encounter

Image
From: Implosion ; Year: 1980; Genre: Progressive Rock This song is a little bit more palatable for the casual listener than the majority of their material, but still has a lot to keep the more musical-minded interested. I really love that saxophone that plays along with the synthesizers.   Hear Encounter on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Soundgarden - Bleed Together   My song pick 2 years ago today: Focus - Sylvia   My song pick 3 years ago today: Funkadelic - (Not Just) Knee Deep My song pick 4 years ago today: Blue Öyster Cult - Morning Final My song pick 5 years ago today: Jethro Tull - The Third Hoorah My song pick 6 years ago today: Bruce Springsteen - The Ghost of Tom Joad My song pick 7 years ago today: Yes - I Would Have Waited Forever My song pick 8 years ago today: Normaal - Vulgaris Magistralis My song pick 9 years ago today: Audioslave - Jewel of the Summertime My song pick 10 years ago today: Megaherz - Himmel...

3720. Cybotron - Parameters of Consciousness

Image
From: Cybotron ; Year: 1976; Genre: Electronica/Progressive Rock I suppose this one could be better categorized as a "soundscape" rather than a song; but there's a lot to listen to and a great deal of music to be heard. 3063. Cybotron - Implosion

Image
From: Implosion ; Year: 1980; Genre: Electronic Rock/Progressive Rock I caught some of their music the other day and today I'm definitely in the mood for more of their music and make another pick of one of their tracks. Strangely for Cybotron, this one is actually quite melodic, which works well with their normal big, electronic sound. Hear Implosion on YouTube. My song pick one year ago today: Blue Öyster Cult - Godzilla My song pick two years ago today: Tangerine Dream - White Eagle My song pick three years ago today: Elvis Presley - Heartbreak Hotel My song pick four years ago today: Rare Earth - I Just Want to Celebrate My song pick five years ago today: Top Gear Band - Red Light Spells Danger My song pick six years ago today: Azteca - Love is a Stranger My song pick seven years ago today: Danzig - Mother My song pick eight years ago today: Savatage - Gutter Ballet

2168 Cybotron - Sonic Overide

Image
From: Cybotron ; Year: 1977; Genre: Progressive Rock/Electronic Rock I'm overdue for a new theme week , so I'm starting one today on this Sunday. For this time I've decided that I will be picking songs from Australian bands. I'll start this theme week off with an off-the-wall pick from the band Cybotron, that is, obviously the original band from Australia, not the later, unrelated one from America. This is a rather lengthy piece of electronic rock that makes for an interesting wall of ever-changing sound. Hear Sonic Overide on YouTube. My song pick a year ago today: Pearl Jam - Jeremy My song pick two years ago today: Banchee - Iceberg My song pick three years ago today: ZZ Top - Manic Mechanic My song pick four years ago today: Santo & Johnny - Sleepwalk My song pick five years ago today: Phil Collins - I Wish It Would Rain Down

Image
From: Colossus ; Year: 1978; Genre: Progressive Rock/Electronic Rock Having one of those days today and have been spending my time with headphones on listening to progressive/electronic sounds from Cybotron, (the one from Australia). I absolutely love how well their music works to help you zone out and ignore the world around you. Watch a video with a version of the song on YouTube. My song pick a year ago today: AC/DC - Let There Be Rock My song pick two years ago today: Steeleye Span - Black Jack Davy My song pick three years ago today: Heart - These Dreams My song pick four years ago today: The Police - Message in a Bottle +

1657 Cybotron - Arrakis

Image
1657 Cybotron - Arrakis From: Cybotron , Year: 1976 Genre: Progressive Rock/Electronic Rock I discovered this Australian experimental prog/rock band with heavy German electronic rock influence the other day and was pleasantly surprised by what I heard. However, I have to admit, I probably wouldn't have listened to it if wasn't for the interesting album artwork, (70s Progressive Rock bands have always had the most awesome artwork), but I'm certainly glad that I did. Finding the particulars about this band has been slightly difficult due to there being another American Techno band that goes by the same name; they formed roughly five years after this band was, which was about the time they'd broken up. You can find out more about the original Cybotron here on Prog Archives . They're very much a band that you wouldn't want to play in mixed company; I already know what I'd hear from other people: "What the Hell is this! You can't dance to it!" Yeah...
