6699. Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR) - Run Through the Jungle

Image
From: Cosmo's Factory ; Year: 1970; Genre: Blues Rock Had some of the songs from Cosmo's Factory on my mind for the last week or so. When I say that I grew up with this record, I really cannot begin to count the amount my Mom and Dad played it, and later myself. Can still remember losing myself studying the album cover and intently listening to the music. Anyway, a great deal of their music has been inseparably tied to the time and events when it was written and recorded; this track is one of them. Mostly Run Through the Jungle has been paired with images of the Vietnam Conflict, even myself being born after the U.S. involvement, still this track elicits imagery from old film and news reels of that war. I suppose you could say that CCR was one of those bands that provided a great deal of the soundtrack to those times.   Hear Run Through the Jungle on YouTube.         My song pick 1 year ago today: Judas Priest - Better Than You, Better Than Me     M...

6444. Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR) - It Came Out of the Sky

Image
From: Willy and the Poor Boys ; Year: 1969; Genre: Rock 'n Roll Kind of a satirical take from John Fogerty's point of view on the powers that be back in 1969 and how they'd react to something "out-of-this-world" crashing in the American Heartland. Both the straight-up bluesy rock 'n roll music and the great story telling lyrically are just about as good as it gets in a song under three minutes in length.   Hear It Came Out of the Sky on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Maxwell - Radiation Funk   My song pick 2 years ago today: Jethro Tull - Guardian's Watch   My song pick 3 years ago today: Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) - Don't Walk Away   My song pick 4 years ago today: Aliotta Haynes Jeremiah - Lake Shore Drive   My song pick 5 years ago today: Laura Branigan - Spanish Eddie   My song pick 6 years ago today: Zapp - Funky Bounce My song pick 7 years ago today: Joy Division - Love Will Tear Us Apart My song pick 8 years ...

6292. Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR) - Travelin' Band

Image
From: Cosmo's Factory ; Year: 1970; Genre: Rock/Rock 'n Roll Been a busy holiday weekend, and thought this CCR classic would be a good choice. Playing in bar bands overexposed me to this track in particular among others, but it's still one of the essential tracks from the band and even though I played it quite a bit people really loved it.   Hear Travelin' Band on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: The Drifters - This Magic Moment   My song pick 2 years ago today: Old Metropolitan Band - Summertime   My song pick 3 years ago today: Toronto - Your Daddy Don't Know   My song pick 4 years ago today: Balance - Ride the Wave   My song pick 5 years ago today: The Allman Brothers Band - Black Hearted Woman My song pick 6 years ago today: Joe Jackson - Breaking Us In Two My song pick 7 years ago today: Johann Sebastian Bach - BWV 375 - Chorale Lobt Gott, ihr Christen, allzugleich My song pick 8 years ago today: Earth, Wind & Fire -...

6252. Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR) - Susie Q

Image
From: Creedence Clearwater Revival ; Year: 1968; Genre: Blues Rock/Blues Been a very busy last couple of days, so I'm just going to get into today's song choice. Whilst being a cover song, it was, (as far as I am aware), the only top 40 single from the band that was not written by a member of CCR, despite being over 8 minutes in length. Very much the definition of blues rock through the first half or so, which actually fades out on side one of the LP and fades back in on the first track of side two, it has that excellent sound that the band would be known for in subsequent albums.    Hear Susie Q on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Lakeside - U Got It Goin' On   My song pick 2 years ago today: Genesis - Counting Out Time   My song pick 3 years ago today: Asia - Never Again   My song pick 4 years ago today: Red Hot Chili Peppers - Go Robot   My song pick 5 years ago today: What Made Milwaukee Famous - Trying to Never Catch Up ...

5392. Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR) - Ramble Tamble

Image
From: Cosmo's Factory ; Year: 1970; Genre: Blues Rock Whilst making dinner yesterday I decided to listen to some music and music from this album was one of the highlights. At just over seven minutes in length, this happens to be the second longest song on the record, which is saying something. However, even at the radio-unfriendly length it's not really that noticeable; the blues heavy sound and amazing music throughout will keep you entertained. The cherry on top, so to speak, is in my opinion that great guitar solo/instrumental section, which takes up a goodly amount of the track. John Fogerty really shows off his chops on the lead guitar and vocals especially, but, I have to say, the entire band was on top of their game here; the mood created with the chord choices and tempo changes really makes this song great all around.   Hear Ramble Tamble on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: 10cc - Art for Art's Sake   My song pick 2 years ago today: Brothe...

Image
From: Bayou Country ; Year: 1969; Genre: Blues Rock This one's been on my mind off and on for about a month now; finally getting around to pick it. 3364. John Fogerty - You Got the Magic

Image
From: Hoodoo ; Year: 1976; Genre: Rock Got in the mood for something from John Fogerty today, so I am. This is one that was supposed to be the main single off of "the album that didn't happen," but it was released by itself at least. Apparently John Fogerty didn't like how the album turned out and permanently shelved it and ordered the masters destroyed, but the songs made it out anyway as bootlegs. Hear You Got the Magic on YouTube. My song pick one year ago today: Pink Floyd - Pigs (Three Different Ones) My song pick two years ago today: Larry Graham and Graham Central Station - Boogie Witcha, Baby My song pick three years ago today: Bachman-Turner Overdrive (BTO) - You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet My song pick four years ago today: The Moody Blues - Don't You Feel Small My song pick five years ago today: Depeche Mode - Stripped My song pick six years ago today: Sammy Davis Jr. - Mr. Bojangles My song pick seven years ago today: John ...

3189. Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR) - Lodi

Image
From: Green River ; Year: 1969; Genre: Blues Rock I caught myself humming some Creedence today; Lodi , which is one of my favourites from CCR was one of them running through my mind. The bluesy and clear lead guitar and John Fogerty's vocals and his emotional delivery of them are what really drew me to this song so heavily; definitely one of their best. Hear Lodi on YouTube. My song pick one year ago today: Lynyrd Skynyrd - All I Can Do Is Write About It My song pick two years ago today: Frank Zappa - Montana My song pick three years ago today: Boston - Don't Look Back My song pick four years ago today: Beat Crusaders - Hit in the USA My song pick five years ago today: ABBA - Thank You for the Music My song pick six years ago today: Genesis - Home By The Sea My song pick seven years ago today: Alannah Myles - Black Velvet My song pick eight years ago today: Alice Cooper - Poison

2996 Creedence Clearwater Revival - I Heard it Through the Grapevine

Image
From: Cosmo's Factory ; Year: 1970; Genre: Blues Rock/R&B When thinking about a song to pick this morning Creedence came to mind, specifically this 11+ minute epic version of the Motown classic. Definitely 1970s album oriented rock in all its glory; despite the length of the track you hardly notice the length. Hear I Heard it Through the Grapevine on YouTube. My song pick one year ago today: The Four Tops - Standing in the Shadows of Love My song pick two years ago today: Asia - Here Comes the Feeling My song pick three years ago today: Sol Ho'opi'i - St. Louis Blues My song pick four years ago today: The Allman Brothers Band - Les Brers in A Minor My song pick five years ago today: Puhdys - He John My song pick six years ago today: Styx - Too Much Time On My Hands My song pick seven years ago today: The Amboy Dukes - Journey to the Center of the Mind My song pick eight years ago today: The Who - Pinball Wizard

2895 John Fogerty - The Old Man Down the Road

Image
From: Centerfield ; Year: 1985; Genre: Rock Summer is massively in swing here; it's very hot and rough on my equipment, so I have to keep it shorter today. Anyway, this is among my favourites from John Fogerty's solo career and is one of the songs that sounds a lot like the music he made with Creedence Clearwater Revival. Hear The Old Man Down the Road on YouTube. 2542 John Fogerty - A Hundred and Ten in the Shade

Image
From: Blue Moon Swamp ; Year: 1997; Genre: Blues/Blues Rock I had a couple of other songs in mind for my pick today, but this one, which has been playing in my mind off and on over the last couple of days, came to my mind and thought it would make a great pick since we've been going through a heatwave; albeit ten degrees cooler than in the song's title. I love the blues with the tinge of gospel in this one; it's a very nice one to listen to on a hot summer day. Hear A Hundred and Ten in the Shade on YouTube. 2106 Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR) - Someday Never Comes

Image
From: Mardi Gras ; Year: 1972; Genre: Rock For the last couple of days I've had this song, and a few others from CCR running through my mind. I know I say it a lot on my posts, but this is among my favourites from this band. It's no surprise that I say that a lot due to the fact that my blog I am posting songs that I like or I find interesting. Anyway, oddly enough this is one of the few song on what would be Creedence's final album that John Fogerty sung and wrote. It is kind of a sad and wistful tune, which kind of fits being that it was their last album together. Hear Someday Never Comes on YouTube. My song pick a year ago today: Pink Floyd - Time My song pick two years ago today: Rammstein - Amerika My song pick three years ago today: Cream - White Room My song pick four years ago today: Steely Dan - Deacon Blues My song pick five years ago today: The Guess Who - Laughing

967 ( Creedence Clearwater Revival - Lookin Out My Back Door )

Image
967 ( Creedence Clearwater Revival - Lookin Out My Back Door ) Today feels like a Creedence day; this is one that I was sure that I have already chosen, but I guess not. Now that I am almost 1000 songs deep into this adventure it is getting more difficult to remember what you have and have not chosen; good thing I keep a "cheat sheet." Anyway, I have heard this song for most of my life and like most Creedence songs is pretty much listenable to mixed crowds of people. One of that I like about John Fogerty's recent live performances is that he seems to be one of the only classic rockers whose voice has not aged terribly and sounds essentially the same as he did on albums 40 years ago. This song has been called a drug song by many because of the weird acid trip like imagery and the reference to a "flying spoon." However, a while ago I was looking at a biography of author Dr. Seuss I found out that that " Lookin' Out My Backdoor " was actually ...
