6893. Motörhead - Bye Bye Bitch Bye Bye

Image
From: The Wörld is Yours ; Year: 2011; Genre: Hard Rock/Metal Time for another fast as heck hard rocking song from Lemmy and his band Motörhead. I have said it before, and I'll say it again: I wish to God that I had the same ability to be as unforgivingly eloquent and immune to ridicule as Mr. Ian Kilmister.   Hear Bye Bye Bitch Bye Bye on YouTube.         My song pick 1 year ago today: Blue Öyster Cult - Don't Come Running To Me     My song pick 2 years ago today: Black Sabbath - Killing Yourself to Live     My song pick 3 years ago today: Al Di Meola - Atavism of Twilight   My song pick 4 years ago today: Lou Reed - My Red Joystick   My song pick 5 years ago today: Stevie Wonder - Don't You Worry About a Thing   My song pick 6 years ago today: Cream - Take it Back   My song pick 7 years ago today: Sweet - Ballroom Blitz My song pick 8 years ago today: Bachman-Turner Overdrive (BTO) - Don't Let the Blues Get You Down ...

6757. Motörhead - Deaf Forever

Image
From: Orgasmatron ; Year: 1986; Genre: Metal/Hard Rock Coincidentally I felt like picking something from Motörhead today and also discovered that their longtime guitarist Philip Anthony Campbell sadly passed away a couple of days ago, so I am definitely choosing one of their songs now.   Hear Deaf Forever on YouTube.         My song pick 1 year ago today: Porcupine Tree - Rats Return     My song pick 2 years ago today: Steeleye Span - The Wee Free Men   My song pick 3 years ago today: Icehouse - Trojan Blue   My song pick 4 years ago today: Miles Davis - Paraphernalia   My song pick 5 years ago today: Utopia - Set Me Free   My song pick 6 years ago today: Nick Gilder - Rated X   My song pick 7 years ago today: Rush - Second Nature My song pick 8 years ago today: Diana Ross & The Supremes - Someday We'll be Together My song pick 9 years ago today: Megadeth - Dread and the Fugitive Mind My song pick 10 years ago toda...

6729. Hawkwind - Psychedelic Warlords (Disappear in Smoke)

Image
From: Hall of the Mountain Grill ; Year: 1974; Genre: Progressive Rock/Space Rock For no particular reason just felt like putting Hawkwind's Hall of the Mountain Grill on whilst working today. This is the opening song on the record, which I erroneously believed I had already picked. It's one of their signature psychedelic tracks that, whilst quite progressive and boundary pushing musically, it contains such a great trancelike groove throughout that will let you lose your mind dancing; that is, if that is wot you wish to do.     Hear Psychedelic Warlords (Disappear in Smoke) on YouTube.         My song pick 1 year ago today: Working Man – A Tribute to Rush - YYZ     My song pick 2 years ago today: The Meters - Liar   My song pick 3 years ago today: Luther Vandross - Grown Thangs   My song pick 4 years ago today: Fleet Foxes - Sunblind   My song pick 5 years ago today: Steven Wilson - Count of Unease   My song pick 6 yea...

6579. Motörhead - Lost Johnny

Image
From: Motörhead ; Year: 1977; Genre: Hard Rock/Metal I was talking with someone last night about Lemmy and his band Motörhead and it got me to thinking about picking another song. Both he and musician/journalist/author Mick Ferren wrote the song, which was originally recorded by Hawkwind whilst Lemmy was in the band a few years prior. This version is, as expected, much heavier, chunkier and a less psychedelic version of Lost Johnny.   Hear Lost Johnny on YouTube.         My song pick 1 year ago today: Funkadelic - Wars of Armageddon     My song pick 2 years ago today: Black 47 - Fanatic Heart   My song pick 3 years ago today: Motörhead - Hellraiser   My song pick 4 years ago today: The Charlie Daniels Band - Reflections   My song pick 5 years ago today: Pat Benatar - Hit Me With Your Best Shot   My song pick 6 years ago today: Victor Wooten - Keep it Low   My song pick 7 years ago today: Klaatu - Calling O...

6396/97. Hawkwind - Space is Deep/One Change

Image
From: Doremi Fasol Latido ; Year: 1972; Genre: Space Rock/Progressive Rock Felt the urge to choose one from this album, which, from wot I understand, it and the songs are a reference to The Sound of the Spheres as well as the diatonic scale. With these two pieces of music being the second and third tracks would make them, I guess, the Sun (Re) and Mercury (Mi). With One Change being a very brief track it could make some sense. Anyway, Space is Deep reminds me a lot of the psychedelic folk or rather space folk that was present from a few groups from around the time with the Queen song 39 coming to mind. Only in the middle section does the full band come in with the first half of the song or so being acoustic 12 string guitar, vocals, and odd synthesizers/noises. Lyrically it is based on Michael Moorcock's The Black Corridor , which adds to the spaciness. As earlier stated, One Change is a short song, or as I called them many years ago: " songitesimals , " I thought it...

6293. Motörhead - Bullet In Your Brain

Image
From: Bad Magic: Seriously Bad Magic ; Year: 2023; Genre: Metal You know, one thing that I admired most about the late-great Lemmy was his ability to just not care wot others thought of him; he just lived his life and did as he saw fit. Not that he was a "bad guy" either, every interview or instance of him offstage he seemed like a down-to-earth cool guy that meant no malice, just did not give a rat's behind about others opinion of him. Say wot you want about him, but I'll always admire that about him amongst other things; I only deeply wish that I had that same ability... sadly I don't.   Hear Bullet In Your Brain on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Return to Forever - Hello Again   My song pick 2 years ago today: The Moody Blues - Let Me Go   My song pick 3 years ago today: Heidevolk - Winteroorlog   My song pick 4 years ago today: King Crimson - Providence   My song pick 5 years ago today: Bob Rivers & Twisted Radio - O Chri...

6085. Hawkwind - Lost Johnny

Image
From: Hall of the Mountain Grill ; Year: 1974; Genre: Space Rock/Psychedelic Rock It is quite difficult for me to choose a "favourite" album from Hawkwind; I just like so many and the songs within. However, I will say that Hall of the Mountain Grill is one of their records I return to a lot and usually play it straight through due to there being no real weak tracks and how the flow together. Anyway, Lost Johnny is one that Lemmy Kilmister co-wrote with Mick Farren and which Lemmy not only plays the bass, but also performs lead vocals on this psychedelic rocker.   Hear Lost Johnny on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: The Soul Searchers - Ashley's Roachclip   My song pick 2 years ago today: Frank Mackey & The Keltic Cowboys - Promise of a Better Life   My song pick 3 years ago today: The Supremes - You Can't Hurry Love   My song pick 4 years ago today: Yes - Harold Land   My song pick 5 years ago today: The Charles Mingus Quint...

6034. Lemmy Kilmister, Billy F. Gibbons & Dave Grohl - Run Rudolph Run

Image
From: We Wish You a Metal Xmas and a Headbanging New Year ; Year: 2008; Genre: Christmas Music/Rock 'n Roll/Hard Rock/Rockabilly Here is a hard-hitting cover of the Christmas classic from Chuck Berry. I really love those gravely lead vocals and the overall musical styling of this one-off power trio.   Hear Run Rudolph Run on YouTube.         My song pick 1 year ago today: Booker T. & The MGs - Medley: Golden Slumbers, Carry That Weight, The End, Here Comes the Sun, Come Together   My song pick 2 years ago today: The Beatles - I'll Follow the Sun   My song pick 3 years ago today: Geoff Tate, Carlos Cavazo, James Lomenzo & Ray Luzier - Silver Bells   My song pick 4 years ago today: Jethro Tull - We Five Kings   My song pick 5 years ago today: James Brown - Christmas is Coming My song pick 6 years ago today: Rage Against the Machine - Sleep Now in the Fire My song pick 7 years ago today: Louis Armstrong with Gordon Jenkins & H...

5562. Motörhead - Hellraiser

Image
From: March ör Die ; Year: 1992; Genre: Heavy Metal Here's an interesting song for one reason: it's technically both a cover and original song due to the fact that Ozzy Osbourne, Lemmy, and Zakk Wylde all co-wrote the song. So, even though Ozzy released his version a little less than a year earlier, this version is very much an original recording as well. I've always really liked this track and it's excellent that two of my favourite heavy metal artists collaborated and recorded their own versions of a great song; double the awesomeness!   Hear Hellraiser on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: The Charlie Daniels Band - Reflections   My song pick 2 years ago today: Pat Benatar - Hit Me With Your Best Shot   My song pick 3 years ago today: Victor Wooten - Keep it Low   My song pick 4 years ago today: Klaatu - Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft My song pick 5 years ago today: Big Country - Fields of Fire (400 Miles) My son...

4836. Motörhead - Shine

Image
From: Another Perfect Day ; Year: 1983; Genre: Hard Rock/Metal I kind of like the somewhat different sound of the music on this album comparatively speaking to the normal Motörhead sound.   Hear Shine on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Hawkwind - Chaos Army/Horn of Destiny   My song pick 2 years ago today: Rainbow - Man on the Silver Mountain My song pick 3 years ago today: Ozric Tentacles - Far Memory My song pick 4 years ago today: Dream Theater - Descent of the NOMACs/Dystopian Overture My song pick 5 years ago today: Vince Guaraldi Trio - Cast Your Fate to the Wind My song pick 6 years ago today: Judas Priest - Living After Midnight My song pick 7 years ago today: Heart - Barracuda My song pick 8 years ago today: The Alan Parson's Project - Breakdown My song pick 9 years ago today: Pink Floyd - Interstellar Overdrive My song pick 10 years ago today: Earth, Wind & Fire - Lets Groove My song pick 11 years ago today: Sta...

4423. Hawkwind - Night of the Hawks

Image
From: The Earth Ritual Preview ; Year: 1984; Genre: Progressive Rock/Space Rock It's great to hear another track from Hawkwind with Lemmy on bass. This EP was kind of a teaser for an album called Earth Ritual that never fully materialized, but we at least get a taste of wot it would sound like, and it would've been phenomenal in my opinion. Hear Night of the Hawks on YouTube. 4282. Motörhead - Iron Fist

Image
From: Iron Fist ; Year: 1982; Genre: Metal/Punk Felt like hearing some Motörhead this morning and since I haven't picked one of their songs for sometime now I thought I would go ahead and make it today's pick. This one has that same balls-to-the-wall sound that the band is famous for. Hear Iron Fist on YouTube. 3079. Motörhead - Ace of Spades

Image
From: Ace of Spades ; Year: 1980; Genre: Metal/Hard Rock As probably most people already know, Lemmy, (Ian Kilmister), passed away earlier this week from a bout of cancer. I figured I should pick an appropriate song; when I discovered that I hadn't yet picked this song, which is one of their most famous, I knew I had my song for today. Rest in Peace. Hear Ace of Spades on YouTube. My song pick one year ago today: Yes - Looking Around My song pick two years ago today: Alestorm - Over the Seas My song pick three years ago today: Paul Simon - Mother and Child Reunion My song pick four years ago today: Maurice Ravel - M.81 - Boléro My song pick five years ago today: Megaherz - Schizophren My song pick six years ago today: Genesis - Turn It On Again My song pick seven years ago today: Miles Davis - Walkin' My song pick eight years ago today: Jethro Tull - Cold Wind To Valhalla

3005. Motörhead - Motorhead

Image
From: Motörhead ; Year: 1977; Genre: Metal This morning I had some Motörhead on my mind so I'm choosing one of their songs for my pick today. Of course this is the eponymous single from the album of the band's namesake and debut. Originally Motorhead was recorded with Hawkwind whilst Lemmy was in the band and was also the song's author. While still very similar to the Hawkwind version this one's a bit edgier and in my opinion the sound mix was a wee bit too dirty, but still a good version. It's very much fun to hear the early material from bands that would go on to become legends like this one. Hear Motorhead on YouTube. My song pick one year ago today: Leon Mitchison and the Eastex Freeway Band - Street Scene My song pick two years ago today: Neil Young & Crazy Horse - My My, Hey Hey (Out of the Blue) My song pick three years ago today: Jane's Addiction - Been Caught Stealing My song pick four years ago today: Rush - Leave That Thing Al...

2202 Hawkwind - Orgone Accumulator

Image
From: Space Ritual ; Year: 1973; Genre: Space Rock After listening to a bunch of their music yesterday I thought I would pick something from Hawkwind; there is something about their music that always seems to put a smile on my face. This is a rather bluesy piece of psychedelic space rock is written about an actual device that supposedly gathers the hypothetical universal 'life force' Orgone ; uh huh.... Hear Orgone Accumulator on YouTube. My song pick a year ago today: Robert Schumann - Op. 17 - Fantasie in C My song pick two years ago today: Muse - Supermassive Black Hole My song pick three years ago today: Eddie Lang - Eddie's Twister My song pick four years ago today: The Goo Goo Dolls - Black Balloon My song pick five years ago today: Ozzy Osbourne - Bark at the Moon

2122 Hawkind - Dying Seas

Image
From: Warrior on the Edge of Time ; Year: 1975; Genre: Space Rock I had a couple of songs in mind for today's pick, however, after reading an article about this album I decided to pick a song off of it as well. Overall, it is a bit difficult for me to pick a single song off of this great record; in my opinion it is greater as a whole than its parts. Anyway, this is a rather nice trip of a song, I really like Lemmy's bass intro; it sets the mood for the song. Hear Dying Seas on YouTube. My song pick a year ago today: Quasar - Mission 14 My song pick two years ago today: Derek and the Dominoes - Key to the Highway My song pick three years ago today: David Bowie - All The Madmen My song pick four years ago today: Rush - Finding My Way My song pick five years ago today: Creedence Clearwater Revival - Long As I Can See The Light

2052 Hawkwind - Wind of Change

Image
From: Hall of the Mountain Grill ; Year: 1974; Genre: Progressive Rock/Space Rock Earlier today while I was on the road this rather interesting track came on my iPod. This was another one of those times when I thought for sure I had already picked the song, but hadn't. Again, I have to reiterate that this is a rather interesting track. As with many of their songs it starts out with odd sounds for about the first minute, then as the song begins to take form it is almost like Spaghetti Western music, only with a definite "spacey" flare. You can almost envision two space cowboys on a distant world dueling complete with laser pistols. Hear Wind of Change on YouTube. My song pick a year ago today: Alestorm - Set Sail to Conquer My song pick two years ago today: Pee Wee King and his Golden West Cowboys - The Ghost and Honest Joe My song pick three years ago today: Jerry Reed - Amos Moses My song pick four years ago today: Santana - All The Love In The U...

680 ( Hawkwind - Motorhead )

Image
I have been wanting to add this one to my list for some time and now seems as good time as any. Warrior on the Edge of Time was the last studio album that Lemmy Kilmister was on with Hawkwind. Lemmy eventually used the title of this song for the name of his band: Motörhead; the song, (which can be found here on YouTube), was also recorded and made famous by Motörhead as well. A good straight-ahead rocker with just a tinge of Space Rock; excellent for the start of the week. Here is a studio recording of the song by Hawkwind on YouTube. +
