From: The Zombies ; Year: 1965; Genre: Rock Had this song running through my mind most of the day yesterday. This was yet another one of those occasions that "I just knew I already chose it," but after scouring my lists and searching the blog, I surprisingly did not. I have always loved the mellow and moody shuffle throughout the track as well as Colin Blunstone's rather mellow vocals in the verses, which in contrast become rather frantic in the chorus and middle-eight. From: Odessey and Oracle ; Year: 1968; Genre: Psychedelic Rock/Soul The Zombies' Odessey and Oracle has been on my mind for the last little bit; am finally getting around to choosing another song from it. It was quite surprising to discover that I have yet to pick this track, which is among the band's biggest and most recognizable songs in their repertoire. I've always really liked Rod Argent and The Zombies as well as his other projects. This rather Beatlesque sounding track felt like a perfect fit not only for its title and lyrics, but musically as well. Anyway, Last year on his song-a-day blog, Ronald wrote down some stats associated with his site , so I figured I'd totally borrow that idea this year: It was another year of not missing a day Total page views last year: about 25,000. The top 10 countries who view my blog, (Google only lists the top 10): U.S., Russia, Germany, France, South Korea, Belgium, Ukraine, Denmark, The United Kingdom, and Poland. In fact I surprisingly haven't picked one from The Zombies in over 2500 picks, but I have picked a few since from band leader Rob Argent's band of his name sake. Anyway, while this one might seem like a piece of high-calorie mainstream pop on the surface, if you listen the music is incredibly done and quite complex. From: All Together Now ; Year: 1972; Genre: Progressive Rock/Hard Rock I had an urge to listen to some Argent today and thought it would be a good idea to pick another one of their tracks too. While being overshadowed by their monster hit Hold Your Head Up , Tragedy was one of the lesser hits from All Together Now . It's a pretty good track that is carried through the verses by an excellent thumping funky bass line. As with much of the material from Argent each instrument is played amazingly and it seems as if each and every one of them has a solo at one point during this song. For today I decided on choosing She's Not There by The Zombies; I have always loved this song a lot and thought that it was time to pick it. I really like Rob Argent's keyboard work in this one and the bass line is excellent as well. I also like the smoothness of the song and how it carries effortlessly from one part to another.
